Another reason this may have been implemented ,serious member membership is that its being used as a write off on the books .

Give every body a free membership then u can write the value off as advertising such a smart cookie .

Then if some pillock does sign up its money plus .

Okay so there's a new premium meber thing now, which when people have bought it displays a yellow splodge next to their username. I've read the blurb on POF about how it's supposed to make you more assured that the member in question is genuine. However, I have a friend I've been talking to for a while on here. She now has one of those yellow splodges. I asked her if she thought it had improved the quality of people she was talking to (in considering it for myself), and she didn't know what I was talking about at all. After explaining it to her, she said she had never paid for a premium membership. We speculated between us she might have gotten one for her frequency of use of the site (on daily). However, this raises two issues for me.. Firstly, I was a bit affronted she would be afforded a free membership yet I had been overlooked. I will admit I don't visit daily, but at the end of the day I have a busy work-life which prevents me from doing so, and I've still been a member for much much longer. The second and more important point is how this affects the validity of said yellow splodge. If some have initially been handed out for free, then there is sure no assurance whatsoever that the member you are contacting is more genuine?

Btw to the mod who closed my thread.. I understand why it was closed and I don't disagree. But I would like to ask when you plan to reply to my yr+ old support request?

Are we allowed to report pics that are non-compliant if the user is a VIP or Serious Member? Do they have immunity?

Considering previously reported Hookers have some, its kinda irrelevant.

I would like to ask when you plan to reply to my yr+ old support request?

When the Admin decides to extend the Time Mail will be retained in our Mailboxes and we develop something on the Order of Photographic Memory.

Here is one to seriously consider (may have been mentioned already):

How about just a premium membership for forum use- charge like a buck or two per month or maybe $10 or $15 per year? Premium forum user's would have some advance features. Something I'd like to see is a 'preview' button that allows displaying your new post WYSIWYG as what it will appear like once posted.

Actually, I think that should be a feature available to everyone, but (sarcasm here) wouldn't having a special gold star appear in the username section of the post provide it more credibility or higher value to read?

When people have no much choice they don't know what to do and they can't commit to anything and they always wonder if they made the right choice.

Maybe that is true for many, but I never wonder if I made the right choice. My choices are influenced by what I want and whatever meets my requirements first is the right choice.

This is why the serious membership works so well. People think serious members are a far better choice so they send more emails to them and also talk to more users.

This depends on what someone is looking for. My perception of a ``serious member'' is a woman who is seriously hunting for a husband, in which case, she is less likely to be someone I'd want to contact. What would be worth the money is membership that requires a member to write a coherent profile with some minimum length (say 500-1000 words with no cliches or slogans that aren't original) that actually contains something informative.

The reason women get lots of email from guys in whom they have no interest is because they say next to nothing about themselves and it's anyone's guess as to what they want. My guess is that the ``serious members'' will feel the need to do even less because of some perceived additional status that they are intrinsically more desirable. That perception may be worth something to someone, but not to me. In the big picture, my perception of a likely match is going to be in what she's written in her profile and those with poorly written profiles are the one's I'll contact without putting much thought into what I write. Unfortunately, there is no way to actually provide the kind of filter that would be really useful, i.e., one that eliminates the flakes. At the moment, the only limitation I feel I have with the standard membership is the length limit on the profiles, which doesn't appear to be different for ``serious members.''

How can the "Serious Member" gold thing be removed? I did not want it and I have it. Please tell me how to remove it or if I cannot, please do for me. Since it was put there, I have had a lot less contacts.

OP,

I just read an ad of a separated man who is a "Serious Member" .

So M-A-R-R-I-E-D men aka Separated men can be considered Serious?

Are you Serious?

Next we'll see that men looking for "intimate encounter" aka one night stands also are Serious Members if they have the visa card.

And there are women who have the Serious Member icon on their profile and never wanted it nor asked for it.

Op,

The whole concept is on a slippery slide and losing credibility.

It will be considered a joke, nothing less and be ignored.

Perhaps the "serious" designation is meant to show the member is serious about what they say they're seeking. We frequently hear people complain about those who say they're seeking a LTR when all they want is to casually date. Or they state "friends" when their intention to to meet a life long partner.

If that's the case then the "serious" designation may help clear things up.

Would it not be more beneficial to the members to offer an identity verification membership (at no charge) to members interested in that feature?

If the POF member would choose this feature, they would verify who they are with the provider/admin, of course with the guarantee that the information was held in strict privacy. Identity verification with a valid license, etc. or like the USPS does with an address change form online, a $1 (one time charge) on your credit card.

Just a late night thought!

msg1.

new features. hmm...how about being able to turn off the viewed me feature for people whom just look but do not write. Or a filter button of some kind for just that day, perhaps maybe just a numerical value of anonymous "hits" on the profile. Or being able to narrow ones search by clicking a check box by people of whom your not interested in viewing again. For any reason. Perhaps that information could be stored in a list so a member could review their profile again, in case things change and that box could be unchecked.

Feature like the ones mentioned above would allow members to find better the type of person they appreciate more and effectively ignore those whom they don't. A better use of time, when you don't have to look at profiles you don't want to, or allready considered and found lacking.

You have to be kidding. If you give out personal information, you can never ``ungive'' it out. But, you appear to know that to some extent:

If the POF member would choose this feature, they would verify who they are with the provider/admin, of course with the guarantee that the information was held in strict privacy.

And your recourse against having that guarantee breached would be what? Would you even bother to read the fine print? It amazes me that people will give up personal information so easily.

Identity verification with a valid license, etc. or like the USPS does with an address change form online, a $1 (one time charWould it not be more beneficial to the members to offer an identity verification membership (at no charge) to members interested in that feature?

I'm sure that a stalker would find it handy to ensure he's not wasting his time meeting you without that info. (verifying someone's identity works both ways.)

You are correct, I am very aware [more than a few lines of message indicate] of not being able to 'ungive' personal info. No, I was not advocating giving it up so easily...it was a suggestion, that the admin/service provider if there was an interest would have to fully investigate the options and how to be in compliance with privacy acts.

The same guarantee you have with the USPS, online payments with utilities, etc...Same as the US Postal Service, to submit a change of address online, you have to include your cc, and a $1 charge is assessed to your cc. It's done everyday. Paypal does it to verify your account, they charge $0.03 or some fee for verification purposes. Besides if someone is paying for that Serious Member seal they are already giving it up that information.

Stalkers are everywhere ... and it amazes me how so many here and other sites post pictures w/their children!

As for the Serious Member seal, personally I think it's unnecessary. If you are serious about meeting someone, you're already communicating with other members.

PlentyofFish will have billing information on all serious members.

Hmmmm, would I really want a dating site run out of someone's apartment, no matter how large the site has gotten, (maybe especially how large it's gotten), to have my personal information and credit card numbers?

Marcus, I really enjoy this site... good for you, making this site! thanks
What I wrote up there is not personally against you.. it's just ME being very cautious about throwing my credit card info around non-discriminatively.

Then again, if you start using paypal as you say you might, I still wouldn't do it.

I'm not interested in being labeled a Serious Member or a Very Important Person (VIP).
It doesn't mean much, here. ANYone can buy it.

I had a 'friend' who was given the serious member thingy - Without wanting it and despite asking to have it removed = it was left on. No option there at all.
His remedy? He deleted his old profile and created a whole new one. Oh .. and according to Him - he is Not a serious member or a VIP .. he's just here "looking to get some". His words. He said the last thing he wanted was some woman thinking he is serious when he isn't. AND he was in the Intimate Encounters category!! go figure ..

At least he got rid of his serious member

I obviously am not alone in thinking this is the best dating site out there by far, paid or free membership. The fact that it is free, flows seamlessly, has many great features and options and doesn't block e-mail or phone number exchanges and so on, makes it so popular.

I think if you want to keep the gold badge and give it as many perks as you like it shouldn't really matter to any of us...... as long as our current free membership access is not going to be restricted from any benefits we currently enjoy.
