How come the men are represented as being firm in their convictions, and knowing exactly what they want?
He wants a sex partner. (obvious)
He wants a woman who will play with him. (share his hobbies and interests.)
And he appreciates what a woman will do for him. (cleaning, cooking, taking care of him)
And then there’s the women folk; uncertain, insecure and with more waffles than Aunt Jemima…
Does he LOVE me? (how many times have we seen that thread?)
Will he be there for me? (will I have his emotional support and protection?)
Can I trust him with my heart? (Is he available and open to love and be loved?)
I would never claim to speak for all women, but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t sound so unsure of myself. How about…
She wants to be loved
She wants security, dependability, reliability
She wants loyalty, devotion, intimacy
That’s better, but I think that both of these gender generalizations contain the all-important, “no-duh” traits that the greater majority of healthy minded individuals hope to find in a life mate. Ergo, rather than focusing on the differences between men and women, how about being comforted by the way we overlap into one another?
PEOPLE want to be loved (affection, sexual intimacy, adoration)
PEOPLE want security and companionship (they don’t want to be alone)
PEOPLE want to be treated with respect (loyalty, devotion, appreciation)
