| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 5/29/2009 7:15:49 PM | re-posting something i wrote last year on Native American Spirituality 8/13/2008 2 30 PM...realized it fits here...
oh yes the river is overflowing with tears....which open hearts....which connects to our humility and humanity.
and if we don't have the intention of peace and the awareness of the dangers of war, i don't see how we can move forward in opening our hearts and minds more.
as i said before, and we have seen here - war seems to always create more war. how do you see being a warrior leading to peace? is not your goal peace also? or are you feeling justified to keep fighting in the name of all the injustices? isn't the feeling of injustice what has led us here and really been quite a problem?
my question is what do you think it will take to stop fighting?
what seems to have worked before was surrender..... but what about acceptance? what about forgiveness? what about trying to not get so deeply embroiled in war, or learning to step back and take some breaths before we really kill each other?
if we wipe each other out, then that's one path to peace for there will be no one left to fight with....
but i do not think that is the best way....i think that is the coward's way.....much easier to fight than not to, or so it seems to me...but then i have been a fighter of injustice and so i know it does not work for me any more to fight for injustice, or for peace, because it seems fighting almost always leads to more fighting.
what has helped me always and only is if I want peace, then I have to be peace.....
just like if I want love, then I have to be love.

There's A Place In Your Heart And I Know That It Is Love And This Place Could Be Much Brighter Than Tomorrow And If You Really Try You'll Find There's No Need To Cry In This Place You'll Feel There's No Hurt Or Sorrow
There Are Ways To Get There If You Care Enough For The Living Make A Little Space Make A Better Place...
Heal The World Make It A Better Place For You And For Me And The Entire Human Race There Are People Dying If You Care Enough For The Living Make A Better Place For You And For Me
If You Want To Know Why There's A Love That Cannot Lie Love Is Strong It Only Cares For Joyful Giving If We Try We Shall See In This Bliss We Cannot Feel Fear Or Dread We Stop Existing And Start Living
Then It Feels That Always Love's Enough For Us Growing So Make A Better World Make A Better World...

We Could Fly So High Let Our Spirits Never Die In My Heart I Feel You Are All My Brothers Create A World With No Fear Together We'll Cry Happy Tears See The Nations Turn Their Swords Into Plowshares

| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 7/11/2009 5:57:22 AM | thank you k for that quote... thought to offer this here, written July 4th on the last line 8 line thread, edited and expanded this morning....
our wars.... I still don't know really what are we fighting for? are you truly a threat to me? have I lost my sanity? is life so unimportant to me that I should end it through our divisibility? though part of human nature...apparently... I implore we end all war and live peacefully for I believe humanity really can live in harmony... I believe it is not just a fantasy created in my memory

| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 7/12/2009 7:07:22 AM | PAX by DH Lawerence All that matters is to be at one with the living God To be a creature in the house of the God of Life.
Like a cat asleep on a chair at peace, in peace and at one with the master of the house, with the mistress at home, at home in the house of the living, sleeping on the hearth, and yawning before the fire.
Sleeping on the hearth of the living world, yawning at home before the fire of life feeling the presence of the living God like a great reassurance a deep calm in the heart a presence as of a master sitting at the board in his own and greater being, in the house of life. -- by D.H. Lawrence

| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 8/21/2009 5:13:39 AM | Just received this from a physician friend of mine, seemed like it should post here...
"This news just came to my attention:
**WARNING** B9 Virus (also known as the "benign" virus) epidemic is causing massive outbreaks of peace. B9 is very contagious, especially among young children and the elderly. The most common means of transmission are hugs in excess of 20 seconds in length, and peace symptoms are also suspected of coming from long walks on ocean beaches or in deep mountain forests.
Individual symptoms include difficulty in dominating other people, willingness to listen for long periods without interrupting, and forgetting to lock the house, as well as spontaneous outbursts of joyful singing and tears of gratitude.
An epidemic may be indicated by improved learning in schools, shortages of workers, empty jails, and closure of military recruiting offices. Government epidemiologists say control is impossible, since the B9 virus will disassemble the DNA of fear media-cations with laughter. The prognosis is for long-term chronic peace to dissolve political and national boundaries, blend the races into one soft brown color, and marginalize the use of currency as a representation of value. The B9 virus is very dangerous to the status quo and should be treated with respect.
Forewarned is fore-hugged!"

| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 11/7/2009 3:51:56 PM | Quaker: " Come walk cheerfully over the world answering to that of God in everyone." founder George Fox, 1659 "We utterly deny all outward wars and strife and fightings with outward weapons for any end or under any pretence whatsoever. And this our testimony to the whole world. The spirit of Christ will never move us to fight and war against any man with outward weapons neither for the kindgdom of Christ nor for the kingdoms of this world." George Fox, 1661 "People everywhere are children of God and members of one family. We value the worth of each person. We cannot be easy in our own lives when others suffer indignity, injustice or want. We are ready to put ourselves at one another's side and share each other's burdens. As we are true to the divine within ourselves so do we respond to the divine in others." from Faith and Practice, North Pacific Yearly Meeting, Religious Society of Friends, 1993 | |

| ~ Calling For Peace ~ Posted: 11/15/2009 8:50:59 AM | Charter for Compassion The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honor the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect. It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion. We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings—even those regarded as enemies. We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.

This idea, conceived by Karen Armstrong, has had a powerful start around the world. She has used the United Nations as a starting point so this would not be seen as a "western" movement, but global. Except for the Huffington Post there hasn't been media coverage (what a surprise!). Please feel free to share this wonderful call for sanity and peace. D thank you.
