| Long walks on the beach Posted: 3/24/2009 10:38:34 PM | I do like walking on the beach, but it's really not something I would put on a profile. The sap factor is just...way too high.
But then again, I love how everyone is supposed to really try and sell themselves on exactly how interesting they are. And it seems like the 2 most popular routes are by actually saying something "different"/radical, e.g. an interesting fact etc. or going the whole route of "being genuine", e.g. "I don't believe in profiles, you need to get to know me better, I'm a straight forward person" etc.
But really, it's funny how the simple little things that we may very well like doing just don't seem to work in the real world when they make someone seem "boring" or generic.
Sorry I got sidetracked, but re: walking on the beach, yes it's hard in large cities, but I've done it before in other places and I do think it's nice. But it's not all that practical when there are screaming crying kids around and pee and dirty/dangerous objects on the sand. Suddenly not as appealing.
Although I think if the atmosphere was really intact, then it would be something nice. And even just walking alone and reflecting would be nice. But yes in the midst of screaming kids and people running around you in circles....not quite the atmosphere that first comes to mind with "long walks on the beach".

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 3/25/2009 9:54:45 PM | | Love walks on the beach. Barefoot if the sand is nice, beach sandals if not. Prefer it later in the day, at dusk or dark when the beach isn't crowded. The smell of the salt water, the sound of the waves breaking. The view of the horizon. Truly a simple pleasure. Hand in hand with my man...now that is a little bit of heaven on earth. | |

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 3/30/2009 12:35:38 PM | Coming from the landlock country it was always my dreams to live near the beach and now it is just 10 minutes drive from the place where I live.
Sound of waves, invigorating air and never stopping breeze feels like a magnet that gets me every weekend to the beach and my boots were really made for walking

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 3/30/2009 4:33:00 PM | Whether it's the broads horizon's of the High or Great Plains or endless horizons on the lakes and oceans it never has stopped me from being in aw of, water, water, water.
Longs walks on the beach by your self or your with your s/o is always a new experience.
Water,a living body that makes all of life, possible and maybe even love for some

I see a lot of profiles that say girls "Like long walks on the beach"
I grew up downtown and never even saw a real beach until last year. I have to say, I do NOT like long walks on the beach. Why? Well for one, walking in soft sand is hard as hell and walking on hard wet sand hurts my feet. On top of that, stepping on broken shells and the like sucks as well.
Long walks on the beach suck! Maybe I was doing it wrong? Shoes next time, definitely. But then there is the whole sand in the shoes thing... Grrr
Funny, I was just thinking about this same topic. I have lived near the Pacific Ocean my entire life and I walk there a couple of times a month and I never see those huge groups of people who according to their profile, love long walks at the beach. I see some runners and people riding their bikes and that's about it. You were doing it wrong. Actually here nobody walks on the sand, they walk on the bike path.

Humm, maybe next time I'm walking on the beach I'll do a survey and ask all the beachcombers what there thinking! ~smile~
And here I thought that the beach was for lovers or was that in Virgina?

You growing up next to the ocean should have known this, there is a firm walking area between the moist and dry part of the sand which seems to have a good traction.
And when on holiday, lovers are in no rush.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 3/31/2009 7:11:02 AM | I love the beach...for a week or 10 days tops. Then I needs my elevation.
What cracks me up are the women here in Colorado and Wyoming that list a walk on the beach as their favorite thing. Is that code for I expect to be taken to the tropics when it the thermometer tanks?

Yeah, but that was my point. Maybe people who like walks on the beach only like them when on Hawaiian vacations in their minds....plus when you are walking on that tiny crackly part you're referring to you look kinda like an astronaut on the moon and it's not very romantic or fun.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 11:25:00 AM | | hey Dance, I don't think you'd like what you see washed up, it's mostly trash. I live on an island with a beach in almost every direction and walking on them is not as much fun as swimming or surfing. | |
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 12:39:33 PM | Shoes next time, definitely Invest in a pair of crocs or those aqua socks and it won't be such a bad experience. If you do go barefoot though the sand is a good exfoliatent for the feet. Gotta love nature! | |
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 2:19:10 PM | | I'm not much for the beach, live about 50 miles from Galveston - dark sand, lots of shells - well not anymore - Hurricane Ike saw to that. That whole long walks on the beach thing is so overrated. I think people feel inclined to say that because they have never been to the beach and TV makes it look so glamorous. The beaches are all so clean and perfect, no manta rays or jellie fish hanging around to bite you. In reality, it sucks to walk on the beach. | |
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 4:33:26 PM | LMAO! I live in Florida.. and NEVER walk on the beach. I avoid crowds .. after all ~ many profiles are "walking on the beach". My last visit to the beach involved a skinny dip in the ocean. Now that's worthy of a trip to the beach! What do I do when it's raining? Quite simple, I tote an umbrella! | |
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 4:42:05 PM | | Being fair skinned and a redhead I prefer a walk in the woods on a rainy day than a walk on the beach in the sun. | |
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 8:34:29 PM | Ahh! a bare footed, red haired nymph frocking through the Glen of cool morn in a flowing a sheer long gown brings pictures to my mind.
~ and sorry about your dirty beach ~ here in Texas we have what they call a "Red Tide" it don't happen but every few years.
it makes a mess of everything. ~ It's some kind of a plant that for some reason, I don't no why, ~ comes loose from the bottom and washes up ~ as it decays ~ the air is filled with a terrible chemical smell, This gas can be sensed a good 1/4 of a mile away~ and burns the eyes and kills the fish ~ dead fish everywhere , they stink too! and then we have on occasions Portuguese Man of War that comeing on the tide by the thousands. ~ A blue jelly fish ~ of sorts, very pretty , very painful. ~ nothing to fool with. Along with bull sharks and hurricanes, and the bummers rusting off cars ~ it's all a part of living by the sea.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 9:14:32 PM | | We have the red seaweed too. I usually go to the cliffs between the beaches where the water is cleaner, unlike Texas we have a craggy coastline with lots of coves and small beaches. It's also an area with a lot of boats and ship traffic so there is trash not a lot but enough. I will say I like to be on the shore just on the cliffs or the harbor side. I have a little beach I go to away from the tourists of which we have many in the summer. Newport RI americas first vacation spot summer home of the rich. La di da. | |

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/2/2009 9:34:47 PM | ~OP~ Your original post made me giggle. I've often laughed at the whole "walking on beaches" cliche. I'd guess about 7 out of 10 profiles use that. Combine it with: hiking/biking/cuddling/candle-lit dinners by a roaring fire and you've got Profile 101 down perfectly!!!
~OT~ I love the beach. I prefer a hammock, a cabana boy, a lot of drink servers and a very short trip across the sand back to the resort.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 12:50:40 AM | i live within walking distance to a beautiful beach. my ex SO would painstakingly walk it with me....sometimes. i like it in the morning or before dusk, when it's not too hot. or in the winter, although it's not as clean. if necessary, we wear crocs. i also like to go to the remote part and just sit and meditate. often, i rescue seabirds or just sit and watch the whales or otters.
yup, the notion is romantic and i imagine that if someone were to share my dreams, just a little bit, it would definitely make my day and rock my world. in the meanwhile, the creek leading to the beach is in my backyard. i have lots of ducks and can walk with them to the ocean--or up the ways to the state park. there is something about the flow of water, kind of like life itself.
funny, living in a place that some would refer to as a "vacation" and nobody special yet to share it with. but, i know that the last relationship had just too many "problems". so, i'm risking to wait for the person who can walk that beach with me. for cris sakes, i have lymes and if i can walk it, so can he!!!!

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 3:34:41 AM | dancecard- I like to walk the beach on Lake Ontario.. watch out for the duck poop! Where I live the beach doesnt have sand- its farther west. I walk the bike paths. .. until that green algae comes up & stinks so bad that you cant even breathe! Would not want to live on the lake & not be able to go outside...ugh.
Sometimes it can be very peaceful... to watch the water, sailboats, sunset; the fast ferry when we had one-- just about bankrupted the city & we couldnt find a buyer- dumbass politicians.
Anyway, it is pretty lame on a profile, & too damn cold in the winter, but I wouldnt necessarily think long walks/beach is only a romantic notion, tho it is nice with a partner/loved one, it is also very relaxing now if I could only find someone to walk with me
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 10:36:16 AM | well I guess walking on the beach is seen a romantic ~ especially inlanders.
I respect the beach, enjoy the beach ~ for a short time ~ but the beach is not a comfortable place ~ unless you are a sea gull or a crab.
On my profile ~ I state ~ I enjoy skipping rocks ~ while not necessary romantic ~ I feel everyone can relate to those moment of quit reflection and freedom

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 11:26:11 AM | It's a long long walk to a beach when you live in the middle of the United States, but I am happy to have long hikes in the mountains......
Since I grew up much of the time in Florida, the beach was a part of my life, and enjoyed very much, and I seem to need to get back to it at least once a year, but overall, I prefer the mountains, and change of seasons that offer many many other things to enjoy.
Just my opinion........
|
| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 11:48:01 AM | I can walk to the ocean from where I live.
When I am walking on the beach there is almost no one there.
Makes me wonder where the hell all of the ' long walks on the beach' people are.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 7:27:24 PM | when i lived in nw jersey, it was the fly fishing creek between high bridge and califon--did some of my best project work, sitting by that creek--part of why i sought out a creek here in CA. before that in PA, it was a lake that i shared at dusk with the deer and the mosquitos! in nyc, it was the "fire hose"!
i think the bottom line is to share something that is peaceful and in tune with nature. it's a way to connect with your heart and your spirit. in today's world, we often lose sight of that until it's too late. i think some star gazing would also fit the description. we go out on my upper deck with sleeping bags or just lie on the lounge chair and gaze up. it's peaceful and the sight and the sound of it, cannot be matched. whether you are all by yourself or sharing the feeling. in fact, just convinced myself-- going out to do the very thing. at this time of evening, dusk--my mallards have stopped chattering and this beautiful bird with long skinny legs comes, perches and fishes. it somehow makes it "all better" when you get in sync with Mother Nature. even in her fury when i sat back in nj during noreaster, there was something in chaos that was so much larger than "me" when the ocean was roaring. some find it scary, i find it comforting.

| Long walks on the beach Posted: 4/3/2009 9:33:31 PM | | I agree with dancecard and serenityCW, I think the walk on the beach in profiles is a way of getting across that the person is capable of moments of quite reflection. Good luck to each and every one of them I say. I hope they find what they are looking for. | |
