Posted: 3/30/2009 10:40:14 PM | The original poster of this forum asked for help with his profile. Since he asked, he has had more cruelty than actual help. There have been those who have sincerely helped, and those who have sincerely "tried" to help his situation.
There is no question what-so-ever as to the level or "lack there of" of intelligence in several areas. His grammar, spelling and naivety, but more importantly in the area of people!
He innocently ask strangers, "people" to help him. You should be able to tell that it was a desperate attempt, and we all can see why it would be.
It is a sad day when people take the low road, as so many did, to further subject him to unsolicited bashing and torment as I've read in this forun topic.
Why does one feel the need or the responsibility to do anything other than simply "help" the individual "if" they can, regardless of how much of a waste of time "you" determine it to be? And "I" agree it seems hopeless in this case.
JakeW1984----Now he gave some of the soundest advice, "without" belittling Steeler49. His advice was truly sincere, although like the rest of you, I highly doubt that the guy can even deal with it. But that's not for us to decide. Ours is to simply "help" the gentleman "IF" we can. No matter how impossible that might seem.
But to belittle the guy is just dead wrong!
Some of you try to be cute, funny, and down right degrading, at the expense of the individual, I guess to try to impress others. And sometimes you get others to jump on the band wagon with you! Wow.......does "that" boost your ego!!
I'm sure I'll get the normal backlash from those of you who I hit a raw nerve with, and then there will be those who back you too.

Here is the deal. Although I have not commented on this thread I am a very regular reviewer. Understand that most of the people reviewing are competent reviewers and no one is getting paid to help... at least I ain't!! ( Uhhh... Are any of you guys pulling a check out of this?? You aren't getting paid either right?) When we review a profile there are a few expectations. The first is don't argue or tell us how to review you!! If you do not like the review then do not use the advice, but do not slam the people that went out of their way to help you!
This is Profile Review. Not Profile Debate.
The second thing that is expected is that some reasonable effort is put into the profile by the OP. As in we are not here to write your profile for you. Write your own. We will help you improve it! The OP has put next to no effort in his profile.
Now, It is obvious that his writing abilities may be an issue, but then it is incumbant on him to say so instead of pretending that we can not actually read english like he says here...

If he really did have a problem writing, I am positive that someone here would go out of their way to help him. But if he wants to insist that we are all simply stupid and can't read his perfectly reasonable profile, well...
There is a difference in asking for help and expecting someone to do it for you. There is little incentive to help someone that belittles the help that you offer.
The Op started the thread and got six responses. None negative. Some detailed. his response...
be nice only positive resonses keep all other to yourself .. be nice pss i copied pasted from a site were got good reviews on my profile
Telling people to keep there reviews to themselves. He flung the first poo so to speak.
He then gets 22 more responses. Some like Jakew's are really decent and helpful. He takes a 'mild' ribbing for obviously having a copy paste job in his profile but no real negative comments and definetely no insults, to which he responds...
and the profile redos are from u guys ahhh what a joke u guys complain and u cant even do them .so dont complain .ps the copy paste r u guys rewitg ita ahhh how funny this good 1 .well anyway im going woith 1 got now got at least 1 compliment mot complaint pss cant believe u guys u did it ..now im laghing
Translated... He is calling the reviewers a joke, That they can't do profiles either, more joke (I think) and ends with him laughing at the reviewers.
Seems to me like he called this treatment down on himself. Did you actually read the thread before you accused people of attacking this guy? People were helpful to him until he became combative. After that, why be nice to the guy? | |

If a person is too insecure to have their profile analyzed, then they shouldn't ask.

It's been running 4 days now, The guy OP has been hit from all sides. I'm not 100% sure of his motives on beginning all this, it had at the very beginning a somewhat fishy smell to it (excuse the pun). I myself have been entertained and I'm sure other people have too.
However I don't think its a good idea to start getting uptight with each other. I've seen this occur on so many other sites (Youtube, Myspace etc...). The comments and dialogs get sometimes really out of hand. I think we shouldn't lose our perspective on why we're here.
Of course I don't HAVE to view all this. I just think it's sad that's all. | |

I'm technically getting paid. Not with monetary means though. By reviewing others, I'm constantly picking up new tips from other reviewers on how to make my own profile better. Or how to better word emails. Which in turn increases the chances of finding someone special for me. That's more then enough for me. | |

Interesting! I don't find it rewarding in the slightest--what I get out of doing reviews is that I find the original posters usually pretty funny, and I get a kick out of the rest of the peoples' comments. Humor --that's what I get back :)
I don't actually think I'm particularly helping someone because profiles are ultimately topical and really only help getting a foot in the door. Above that, even with a good profile that they can't figure out to do on their own--I suspect whatever elements aided in the inability of that person to articulate themselves online, will also manifest in person, and probably very much contribute to why they were single in the first place.
So I see my, or anyones reviews, like a band aid to cover unhealing wounds. But I think they're a little bit funny, so I continue..for now :) | |

Wow! Here I thought that I was the grumpy one!
I am not sure how much I believe that. I think that while in MANY cases what you say is true. Completely true (like in the case of the OP for instance). But I also believe that some decent, well meaning people simply lack the ability to produce an interesting, engaging and intruiging written project. I believe that you have helped several people get their foot in the door with meeting other people.
If you did not believe that you were helping people, I do not think that you would be quite as gentle and encouraging in your reviews. Where as I am pretty blunt and unfeeling in my reviews and I genuinely want to help.
I have read to many times where you truly go out of your way to make a persons experience here,that much easier. | |
