maybe it was either the priest/pastor etc. etc. or the specific religion. Out of curiosity and for research purposes...what kind of church was it??

| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/3/2005 3:41:42 PM | | here's my theory as a man i'm not married btw so this is only an opinion : some people just go for the traditional vows including those i will obey words most people i know who have been married don't actually look at it literally its just something you say as part of the process the best thing you can do is just write your own or just say the words and not get wrapped up in the literal | |

| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/3/2005 3:48:30 PM | | That just wrong... does it really say that? I mean there are limets to Obeying a person and well some people take it a lil too serious! | |

I want a human being that is my equal, in every way. That doesn't mean we are the same, we ARE different. ...that is a GOOD thing.
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/3/2005 3:51:57 PM | | ok it is a part of traditional vows that should be removed because it just apply to today right or wrong who knows like i said before most people who i know that got married and said that part only said as part of the ceremony it wasn't something they took literally | |
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/3/2005 5:19:49 PM | | i'd like to make a coreection on my last post in place of"it just apply to today" please change it to "just doesn't apply" | |
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 9:02:21 AM | honour i think it's a better word for it..lol | |
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 9:16:59 AM | The tradition is ladies----to obey the man. Sorry, it is not modern, but that is the way the tradition is. Times have changed and obeying the man is not honored anymore--lol (this is gonna be fun)
It all started when we let you vote---oh boy we did not know what we were doing. Then wages started going down and the women hit the work force for a family to get ahead. The men then started staying home (wearing your apron) and took care of the kids barefoot and erect when you got home.---I don't care, you still have to obey us cause thats the rules!!!---LMAO
May be some rethought has to be done about getting married and living up to those old traditions. Sub-serviant---thats such a pretty traditional word, isn't it? LOL
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 9:22:15 AM | I don't know why women make such an issue out of the word "obey" women expect the same......only they call it "there honey do list" | |

Too many people think that they can be married and EVERYTHING will be EXACTLY how THEY want... That is just stupid... there will be times when things aren't as you want... sometimes this means compromise and sometimes this just means giving in and obeying.... This is how guys usually end up at a "chick flik" and this is how women usually and up a sporting events.... All part of the give and take...
So no... it doesn't need to be removed from the vows, but it should be in both sets of vows...
As for it being outdated... it isn't .. People are just hyper sensitive to protecting their individualism when they are getting married, which is fine... But, not really the point of the whole thing..

| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 10:11:00 AM | | I think that you are right.. !!! When I get married I plan on writing my own vowels to because .. I am not going to have my husband thinking he rules over me. I can and will make my own decisions for myself.. !!! | |
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 10:43:59 AM | | there are 26 vowels. make sure you cover them all! just kidding!!! | |
| I will OBEY you??? Posted: 7/4/2005 10:54:37 AM | The bible was written by men a million (2,000) years ago, times were different back then. I hate when people try cover up for this, times have changed maybe the bible should too. Its not like God came down from the sky and wrote the thing, what does God need a book for in any case?
Either accept that its an outdated definition to "obey" your husband, or add in "obey" for the husband as well. Or just accept it as a pseudo meaningless tradition, which seems to be what most people do since they break their vow time and time again
Anyways ladies quit typing and go make dinner/wash the dishes.
