Posted: 4/26/2009 6:28:45 PM | Right now the Yanks have no relief pitching and Wang has be horrible. Jaba needs to goto the Pen and they need bring Phil Hughes up.
The Yankees have a few thing going for them. Tampa is having a poor start 7-12 atm. Boston is only 1.5 games ahead of them. Toronto is hot atm but how long is that going to last? | |

This team should have dominated early and still show nothing!!!! I said it before and I'll say it again, I hope the Yankees fall on their faces. Just to show money can't buy championships....
....then how the hell did the Bosox win the WS twice if not by replicating the Yanks formula........they may not have the highest payroll but they are up there with the Yanks & mets...................it has to do more with staying in the pennant race then it does with winning championships!
Right now the Yanks have no relief pitching and Wang has be horrible. Jaba needs to goto the Pen and they need bring Phil Hughes up.
..........Yanks are notoriously slow starters.......pitching isn't that great right now but its way too early to say how it is gonna shape out.........Wang isn't doing well but he could only get better...............relief pitching is worrisome as they they will be needed to come in early on.
Don't think Hughs has good enuff stuff yet..........A rod is needed to win the soft games, where he is most effective.
......i believe the Yanks will get better, but it may take another 2 months. | |

There are not even close with the Yankees $200 million to the Red Sox $120 million, unless you are comparing the way they are ranked. Yankees are 1st with highest salary and the Red Sox fall 4th in between are the Mets 2nd and the Cubs 3rd. And they are not even up there with the Yankees. | |

Such a larger city, why should say the Royals have the same pay role as the Yanks when they only have around 150k population in KC. That's not really to fair. There's no salary cap in baseball for a reason so this shouldn't be a constant issue about who has more money. And yes, money obviously can't buy a championship, but the Yanks SHOULD have the largest pay role. Look at all the luxury taxes the Yankees have to pay as well... people shouldn't complain about this. | |

They did it the same way the Marlins, D-Backs, Angels, Phillies (and even the same way the Rays got to the WS) and the Yankees of the past………..by fielding a team that play well together whether it is by bringing them through the farm, piecing them together by savy trades or going out and buying a few stars and mixing them with their home grown talent (if they have any).
The 2008 payroll for the WC Phillies was almost $99. mil and the Rays was just under $44 mil, now does anyone think that the $55 mil (give or take a few 100, 000) was why the Rays lost or because we couldn’t get past Lidge???? Maybe it’s just me but somehow I don’t think it would have mattered if Hinske’s salary had been $8 million more a year as to whether he would or wouldn’t have struck out by a dang good closer.
I differ a bit on the opinion that any team “buys championships” (even the Yankees) these guys still have to be able to play together, the key word being together. I just think the Yankees have proven since 2001 that millions of dollars at just about every position doesn’t guarantee well………..anything. Perhaps just proves that the more you spend the more pissed off people there will be when they get hurt, don’t perform or don’t bring home rings.

In what universe is an approximately $66 million difference in payroll around the same? That’s like saying anyone making just $35, 000 a year in salary probably has the same lifestyle as someone that makes $180, 000 a year.
I actually agree with the Yanks guy a few posts up……..the Yankees SHOULD have the highest payroll, they have a huge market (not just NYC) they have fans all over the world and they have been around a hundred years. The whole point is in the scheme of things it doesn’t matter, it has been proven many times. The ones that complain are the teams that can’t or I should say won’t invest in their own team and I don’t mean specifically “invest” as in a lot of money or at least Yankee kind of money. You don’t need to as teams like the Angels and Marlins have proven in the past decade. “Invest” as in player development, scouting what your team actually needs not just the latest big name just to have him (think ARod/Rangers) and so forth.
On that note …Woo hoo ….Yankees got swept!!
