Sorry but that is part an parcel of the cancer making industry..............you know when the cancer comes back............again and again.
It would be interesting to see if USA holistic medicine is as cheap as holistics meds are here in Canada.
Thyroidinum (thyroidea) 30 CH $7.45 a bottle.
White Willow powder (natural asprin) $15. to $30. a pound.
Vit. E (natural) $8.99 a bottle.
At these prices, prescription meds. in the hundreds have a problem with the inexpensive holistic meds.

I have to say that the only holistic medication that was ever advised for me.. was a type of holistic sleep aid called melatonin.. and it was dispensed by the doctor to me for free. There was no charge.. as the doctor carried holistic medication legally in his office. My doctors visit was covered by a co-pay.. of just $6.00.
I try not to take "any" medications though Moraima. So.. I'm sure other posters may know more about prices of holistic and prescription medications than I. I've always had fantastic medical coverage through my last job. My family and friends often told me they envied me.. for my co-pays.

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/25/2009 8:52:45 PM | We built forts with cast-off railroad ties & rusty nails. We did not wear gloves or helmets & all of the materials made it to the fort site in bicycle baskets. Sometimes, we had to ride miles and cross busy highways to get them.
We learned to swim in the lake up the road without lessons or supervision. We road our bikes there & ran across the sand until it turned into lake & then we swam.
We walked to school through 3 feet of snow year-round, up-hill both ways with a skinned squirrel for lunch in a syrup pail, in our dad's pyjamas.

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/25/2009 10:03:24 PM | Back to the milk vs formula. My career is helping women give birth and nurture their infants. Breast milk is by far healthier than any formula made which, by the way, is produced and marketed by pharmaceutical companies. This is the facts folks and is heavily researched based. Now before anyone gets their hackles up because mom gave them cows milk or they fed their own infant cows milk or, formula for that matter, don't loose any sleep over it people are able to thrive even without the best alternative. One other misconception is that some infants are lactose intolerant. Breast milk is full of lactose. The lactose intolerance gene would have been weeded out near the beginning of mankind. There was no formula or readily available cows milk back then. Yes I know some of you are going to say your baby pucked all the time and the MD told you it was lactose intolerance, then told you to use soy based formula and sent you on your way. The truth is some babies just puck a lot and have gas, no mater what they drink. | |

One of the reasons for reminiscing, started over what we did before the common use of formula when many of us sucked on milk! (as well as before we bought into all the, "better/best" ways to live, 'cuz we have been doing it all wrong!)
Realistica, I found your information very helpful and enlightening.
Feather...I enjoyed your accounts of what you used to do as kids! We are sometimes so over protective. I know precautions should used, but kids need to let to be kids...and discover and explore!

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/26/2009 8:59:09 AM | Melatonin is approx. $6. a bottle.
"I try not to take "any" medications though Moraima."
Holestic meds have no side effects. Traditional meds have huge side effects and often cause other diseases long term ie. destroy liver or kidney.
In the good old days of our youth, we pretty much only had what traditional medicine gave us. Today we have safer choices.
I understand that many USA citizens can't afford the medicine they need, or they have to pay for insurance plans. Here is Canada, we have to pay for drug plans also. This needs to be factored into our health care personal cost.

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/26/2009 9:00:40 AM | Thanks for defending me BKS. After reading all the health conscious post I thought I was on track.
And Feather the things I did as a kid would blow most peoples minds. It is a miricle that I am alive. I didn't just drink out of a garden hose, one day a friend and I drank out of a gutter. As a teenager we used to drive up the Kern River canon swim across the rapids to get to the natural hot springs, at night. My mom had a habit of whopping me with here 18 inch wide black patent leather purse. I survived it all and no abuse charges were ever filed but, then again, I was breast fed LOL.

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/26/2009 12:51:11 PM | Drank out of the gutter! Now that is a one I never tried! But as kids, we did love to eat the rock salt people would spread on sidewalks! ick! You were brave in your swimming too!
Awe Feather...you're sweet...didn't fool me one bit! :)
I remember we also used to pick up and eat the old bread that folks threw out for the birds too! I think that's when I discovered I like crunchy foods!
And tap water! How we joked about bottling and selling water! I mean...who in the world would buy something you could get free at anytime!
I hate to say, realistica..but my behind saw a belt a time or two also...especially after my brothers and I built a fire pit in our back yard....and started a fire in it too. It was all their fault! lol

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/27/2009 2:50:48 PM | Lots of interesting stuff in the post. I think maybe rather than thinking that it's either one way or the other, how about mixing it all up and taking the good that works for you, from everything. After all none of us is as smart as all of us. And now for a few of my own experiences ....
Was last of four kids, a carnation baby, not lactose intolerant, did my share of crazy stuff too from slums of Mexico City to Hong Kong and alot of places in between, ate alot of crazy stuff on dares, did a whole bunch of stuff that should have probably killed me over a few times, on and on ... Plan on living a while yet and only I hope I do not die from some one's anger or stupidity, would be great to die with a smile on my face!
Oldest son - was terriblly ADHD - pediatrician told the ex not to waste too much time on him, that he would be in prison by the time he was 16. The ex got us all on the Feingold Diet - and turns out the thing that triggered the ADHD that we couldn't figure out was APPLE JUICE - a natural ingridientin it set him off. He is lactose intolerant or so the docs say and he drank milk straight from the cow from age 4 to 12 in Saskathcewan! Is 6'5" and wieghs 250lbs. Was never asked to play football. Graduated with Honours from high school, graduated from university, living & married on the other side of the country.
Other two kids very similar stories only they played football are are tiny compared to their older brother. If anyone thinks they can figure things out absolutely about health I cannot help but think they are probably misleading themselves at least a bit.
Kids today - I think the biggest problem they face is not having enought time just to be kids. Society puts so much pressure on them to succeed and accomplish, that it rarely allows them time just to be goofballs, princesses or dumbasses, and that to me, is an important part of being of kid (of any age!!!)

| Before there was Formula...there was Milk! Posted: 4/27/2009 6:53:59 PM | hi... I nursed my child, I did not give her any animal dairy, I did not vaccinate her, I fed her organic foods. we are vegetarian and for 17 yrs she has not had a pill of any kind.. for 25 yrs I have not needed pills for any illness.. we do not get flu shots and just for the record we have travelled to jamaica, mexico and hawaii and still we did not need to take drugs for anything... I hang around a lot of vegetarians and raw food eaters, the raw food eaters seem to be the most healthy ie medication free... the fact that we can not control everything that goes into our bodies is reason enough to be diligent with the things that we can control... blessings for health , warmly Mona | |

I can say that my mother used her own "bag-o-tricks" when it came to medicating us "naturally" Moraima. A clove for toothaches. A good temple rub.. a darkened room.. plenty of fresh air for headaches. A teaspoon of sugar/honey in a glass of warm water for constipation. The list just goes on and on.
Melatonin doesn't have side effects.. but.. it's still a little pill. If it costs $6.00.. then I definitely got my moneys worth.. and then some.. as it came after a full massage from the doctor w/nurse present.. of course.
On occassion.. I have had to buy prescription medications in the US for somethings that I can't take holistically. I'm allergic to most grasses and hays.. and a lot of the holistic meds are made with some form of them. If I paid more in the US for any of the meds.. I'm okay with that.. as I know for a fact it goes right back into researching a cure for different given diseases. Some of which.. are deadly. The money has to come from somewhere for research. I don't mind helping out where ever I can. I'm in no way negative enough to believe that all drug companies are out to make more and more money.. and lie about doing research for cures. There have been way too many cures and better medications for those diseases that haven't a cure yet. The proof of which.. is the ages we are all living to these days.
Those with HIV/AIDS.. have medications prolonging there lives so much.. many are now reaching middle age.. and more. Look at Magic Johnson.. how old is he now? How many years ago was he diagnosed? He appears to be having a rather "normal" life.. and lifespan. Yet.. in just the 80's.. to have HIV/AIDS.. was a definite death sentence.. and one's lifespan was extremely short. JMO
