sweep me off my feet?

Googling the expression resulted in:
"to inspire strong and immediate enthusiasm, love, etc. in someone"

Personally, I see it as a romantic cliche.
I went through being swept off my feet. it turned out to be heartbreak in the end.
The fall was painful, there was nobody there to catch me.
What I learned?

It means the woman is a fantasy bound idiot with a Cinderella Complex who wants Prince Charming to come along, and pay all of her bills, so she can stop working, and live like the queen she knows she is while her Sugar Daddy keeps her in the manner to which she would like to become accustomed. It means that she wants him to be so obsessed with sweeping her off her feet-on a daily basis-that he doesn't have the time to notice her doing the chauffer, so he-hubby-will be totally surprised when she divorces him in order to get half of all he owns. It means she is a middle class whore with delusions of grandeur.

^^^^^^^ Ah, more bitter men....god love 'em.

Why are you guys on a dating site in the first place, when you obviously feel that all women are evil, manipulative and greedy? You reap what you sow.

It means you better have a pretty big broom. Usually its better to bypass someone that is looking for something which can come and go. Look for someone that enjoys your company and seems to get more intresting the more you get to know them. If there is attraction, and intrest things may progress well.

People need to remember that women are raised to think and act differently than men. I understand that yes the battle of the sexes has happened and women have more rights. But what it comes down to is we are raised by parents to be "courted" and in return we raise a family, and you put food on the table. It is as simple as that. Yes society is making a slow progression to change that, and the economy makes it almost imposibble to be stay home mothers, but the change hasnt happened completely. we are still caught. Personally I do not believe sweeping a women off of her feet should not be a bad thing if, I mean I expect you have expectations of her.

How about you put it this way:
The man can sweep the woman off her feet and woman can take care of the man when he is off his... :-)

It means they want some one just like you to care enough to ask this totally stupid question.

I think you know exactly what it means, or have at least made up your mind what you feel about women who say it. Soooo, you really should have just made it a statement and put your honest feelings down about it, so at least I could have been entertained.

i see on several female profiles the rather egotistical challenge for the male reader to "sweep me off my feet." this implies several things to me but what does it mean to you.?
answers from both males and females are appreciated.

OP -- I don't see it as a challenge in any way...I see it as you do in the sense that it's A) stirring the pot, B) egotistical and shallow, and C) proves they have read FAR too many Harlequin novels for their own good. These types expect to be wined and dined with little to no effort on their own, and I'm sure that most actually DO expect fully to see some dude show up on a white horse with shining armor all around.

They fail.

Then I move on.

Pretty simple.

Now if a profile says what they will do for US (their potential suitor) then I'll read further 'cause right off the bat I know they have a brain in their head.

Ahh.. Silly boys. First, remember that you are dealing with an expression compiled of just words which will, of course, mean very different things to different people. When I think of being swept off my feet, I think about a man "woe-ing" me. Which I love to do in return. This doesn't take a dime to do and it is just silly to assume that it is all about the mighty dollar. I love the generalizations on here. I know a woman who was taken advantage of by a man in the worst way, wouldn't it be something if she just generalized all me based on that... fairly ridiculous. As for the name calling, well, I believe it shows a lack of education and the inability to use his big boy words.

I have a Master's degree and am not looking to be supported in the slightest and yet I would still love to be swept.

They don't call it FALLING in love for nothin'!
