| Respect for spiritual and religious beliefs Posted: 5/16/2008 9:56:15 AM | I respect anyone's beliefs.. unless they infringe on the rights of others to believe (or not) as they see fit. Personal freedom of conscience is something I strongly believe in.
Yes I do judge those who live unexamined lives or harbour unexamined beliefs- I have little tolerance for the woefully self-inflicted ignorant, and I guess that makes me intolerant in some cases... my bad
So, for me it doesn't matter WHAT someone believes, rather what they DO with that belief and whether they have chosen that because they honestly have researched it and not just adopted it out of social conditioning or fear.
just being honest. | |

I believe in God... too afraid not to! Whats it gonna hurt??! At least when you die you won't get your ass burned in hell!
You do realize that if someone doesn't believe in God and hell as you do that this theology doesn't apply to them, so they at least won't get thier ass burned in hell either, because that is not what they believe.

I believe in God... too afraid not to! Whats it gonna hurt??! At least when you die you won't get your ass burned in hell! I don't believe in God...too afraid to! Considering the many thousands of gods we've written about so far, any one I pick is surely the wrong one and I don't want the true god to burn my ass for worshipping the wrong dude.
I chuckled at trippy's post last page about atheists yelling at old churchladies that there is no heaven. Yeah we do that all the time lol.
I find belief systems rather interesting - especially the history of them. I don't see why it should be hard to respect other people's beliefs, and for those who have such a hard time listening to different belief systems and a very easy time proselytizing their own - those are the ones in need of a spiritual cleansing imho.

R E S P E C T... What does this mean to thee... R E S P E C T... Won't mix well with Stupidity... As for me...I try my best not judge anyone by what they believe as long as they, in return as true gesture of respect, do the same. 'It is Not my place to tell you what to belief!' Now flip that coin! However...if you try to tell me that what I believe is Wrong for Me, and be disrepectful yourself, then why Should I hold any respect towards you and your beliefs? Sin of the Guilt Trip! I dare say that such an act I must protest. I have no course to ridicule anyone whether it be Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddist, Hindist, Taoist, Satanist, Demonologist, Ethrealist ( Yes, that includes you trippy hare...lol), Atheist, Agnostist, Shamanist, Humanist, Sun Worshipper, Spiritualist, Wiccan, Pagan, etc., simply based upon their beliefs. I only do that based upon their attitude towards me, and what I believe. Well...like I said, I try!

| Respect for spiritual and religious beliefs Posted: 5/17/2008 7:24:58 AM | i feel that it is safest to assume that all priests are child molesters.. until i get to know each one of them better.
Maybe Not .. . i think that a religion can be a tool for good or evil, deepthinking or midlessness, depending on how a person or an organisation chooses to employ it..
What does my head in.. is here in the UK many of our schools... and all over France, in the name of equality and secularism, girls from an Islamic background are forbidden an education if they refuse to reveal as much of their face as the authorities see fit... This is an arrogance that is both paradoxical and obscene.
Mutual respect.. is the backbone of any real civilisation or democracy

I'm curious to know how many here respect others beliefs, even when they differ from your own and how many think that all religious people are brainwashed idiots or all spiritual people are self-deluded egoists. How many people casually apply some blanket derogatory statement to all people in a religious or a spiritual community? I desire not to be, but know that I am not perfect. So I won't deny that I have been guilty of judging people to some extent. But it's something I fight against, as I was brought up with extremely racist beliefs, that had absolutely nothing to do with religion, and more to do with my class and country. So I've always tried to see all people, of whatever colour, or creed, or belief, as equal, in all ways. Sometimes I fail, and I feel regret for that, and hope that those I've offended understand and forgive me. But I believe that I project an opinion of tolerance in general. At least I hope so. If I don't, then I'd like someone to tell me, so I can improve.
RE msg 98 by rockondon:
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently. ~Friedrich Nietzsche truer words were never spoken. I saw this, and was struck by how concisely Nietzsche described the roots of intolerance, nepotism and corruption. I was struck even more by how aptly you chose to use this quote as your post. I could not agree more.
