Don't understand why people just can't be happy with what they have and KNOW how many people they are bringing together FREE to us. I host so many events and pay A LOT out of my own pocket for decortations and little things for people to take home as a token of THANKS for coming to the event and there is no better reward for me than to see the smiles on these peoples faces who attend the events I host and how APPRECIATIVE they are of all the hard work put into hosting.
Can't Marcus just take the MILLIONS he is making and APPRECIATE the fact WE APPRECIATE his kindness in giving us a site we can come to and ENJOY a conversation INSTANTLY without having to wait for someone to email us back? Guess not.. too much to ask for huh?
Just wait.. I'm sure sooner or later he is going to make it so we can not even VIEW EMAILS without paying! Not to mention not even send out a mass email NOTIFYING US OF THE CHANGE But that's okay, I'll be long gone before that happens! | |

Posted: 4/17/2009 8:51:41 PM | Most of (if not all) the other dating sites have their own IM system. It provides a safety net to IM prior to sharing personal IM addresses. IMO this loss has greatly reduced the "fun" of POF. Consider the publicity this is giving POF. Will many people become paid members now that this service has been discontinued?
Many of us would appreciate it if Admin would find an alternative way to bring back the IM.
Come on....... you know you can do !

I'd have to find a new one, but since the site is so much more effective without an IM I doubt i'll bring it back.
Can you at least find out if the users would like the IM feature? I mean, generally on social sites like this we are notified for one when this happens before it gets to a thread like this, and two, we have some sort of vote, or something on it to show whether or not it really is used to it's capacity.
has an IM feature that's pretty good, where it just sits in the bottom corner of the screen and you can make it a pop up if you would like. Maybe you could do some research to find out where they got theirs.
The experience is not quite the same without the IM feature. | |

Give us a little explanation on why you think the rise in traffic is directly correlated to the lack of im. Post hoc, ergo propter hoc bud. Thats about as farfetched as saying, oh i stopped giving away free ice cream and shark attacks went up, so it must be because i stopped the ice cream. Perhaps you never went to business school, but the simple fact of the matter is that a service taken that is considered an "extra" will not and does not lead to more sales(in this case traffic) This increase in traffic is not real, its from the simple fact that the same users are now having to switch from profile to write message to profile to inbox to profile to message more than the ease of it. Should im be brought back? Yes. Should it be better formatted and more user friendly? Yes. Should it be payed for? No, but ultimately thats your decision. Should a site that virtually has nothing better than the next site ultimately have real growth and generation of traffic? Not at all. The reason i stayed with pof is because it is better than the alternative thanks to im, and a couple other things, but im is a time saver. I work a lot so i don't often have time to respond to messages in a timely manner.
But ultimately its your decision, but remember that plenty of people enjoy the im and to those other people who keep saying its annoying turn it off, You dont want ims fine, turn it off, but dont ruin it for the rest of us who enjoy and wish to use it. There is no point in telling us its annoying when you have the power for it not to be. Perhaps if im is reinstated you could put more specific settings on the im thing, for example, can't im member without a replying email from that user. Maybe then they will stop complaining.
Of course you could always appease me by letting us post other things besides imeem. I mean come on. imeem? Wtf ever heard of that place before joining pof? your getting screwed on that. If profs were more customizable i believe everyone would be happy im or not.
