Why does everyone have their IM turned off?
Posted: 4/23/2009 11:35:27 PM
It's simple Marcus, turn it back on or find a replacement or lose an awful lot of users. If it comes down to paying a fee for the service, so be it, I will pay, but the feature was so good for getting to know someone quickly, I don't know what to do without it.

Seriously, I thought the IM feature was just ok. Sometimes it clapped out and wouldn't work but so be it. The site is FREE! Which is 100% better than the paid for sites. Can't complain for something that is free. That is what attracts me to this site is that no cash is asked for (unless you want to be "a serious" member) That reminds me, I need a clown suit for a photo LOL

For those worried about handing out their email address for MSN, Yahoo etc etc then why not set up a separate account for just that use? That way you can block / delete people you do not like. Hey, you know what, I thought that was too simple

Seriously, If the owners of POF choose to not locate another IM feature, I will stop using the site. I liked the fact that I could see who was online and attempt to contact them immediately.

Frankly, it also made it very easy to block the undesireables.

I don't know of any dating site that doesn't have an integrated Instant Messenger. While the platform or engine (or whatever it is called) may differ, there is a way to contact other users instantly through all other dating sites of whom I have been a subscriber.
I seems that, in the myriad of messenging services, one could find an appropriate match for pof.
I am not ready to pay 30 bucks per month to subscribe to pof; I just don't use it that much, however, if the option for IM became available for five or six dollars per month, as you mentioned in an earlier post, I think I would give it a try.
....And all this time I thought I had offended someone and been labeled a scurrilous, liscencious, rude, crude and unacceptable message sender...

Announcing changes to a website is standard fare for most site administrators.

The same should apply here. It's not difficult coding a page that lists updates or changes to the website.

I don't come on here to chat on IM, per se. But, it's a nice feature to have on a site such as this.

It's also available on most free dating websites that are live currently. Some sites offer it to you for free, some require a small fee, but all in all, it's there to be used. It would seem that from reading these posts that a fair number of people would like to see IM returned.

If that is the case, then it should be returned. Give the users a decent FAQ that tells them how to use IM, among the many other features here on the site and then you'd likely not have people complaining to the site admin about unwanted IMs, emails, etc.

More information for the users will make them all the more happier in the long run, helping to generate traffic to the site and money in the back pocket of the owner.

The problem with that is the people that post on the forums only represent a small portion of the people that use the site.

Also as the owner of this site has stated (in this thread), so far he has seen increases in traffic after the IM was removed.

Hi..IM was a good way to chat with someone quickly...and not have to give out your personal email address or name until feeling comfortable to do so..now the only way to communicate is thru the pof email..and it is slow...Please find another IM to use or create your own...IM was a very nice feature of your site.
thanks.

This is not the same without the IM. Besides I just realized that we cannot see when someone is online either. Why?

POF please do something to improve these problems...at least one of them. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to find another vendor to offer this feature? The IMing was basically the only reason I ever logged into POF and I like many others apparently, ventured here because I thought that it was a service that had to be paid for. What's the word on remedying the situation?

Probably, but as the first post in this thread directs you - read Message 2 from Admin.

I, too, consider the IM function virtually invaluable. A lot of people like to chat on here, before deciding to divulge more personal messenger info (yahoo, msn, aim).

Without it, the 'online my city' search link is irrelevant. No point in knowing who is online, if you cannot send an instant message. The green link, next to a person's ID is also obsolete.

PAClassyLady, those are the people the 'block' function, is designed for.

I am not happy about loosing the IM but I do know that userplane has been infultrated by some crazy company over in the old chech republic. That IM on the userplane site has been the origin of many viruses. ADWARE PRO 2009, INTERNET SPY 2009 ETC. Good ridance.

If you have gotten one of these viruses DO NOT BUY THERE SERVISES!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A SCAM!!!!!! THEY WILL ROB YOU BLIND.!!!!!

Why not just have IM as a weekend service?
