| IM turns me off. Posted: 4/25/2009 7:12:39 AM | I miss the IM service. I didn't use it a lot, but it was handy for friends to chat. Maybe make it only available for use between people on your friends list, with the usual opt out if required. But yes, I would like to see it reinstated in some form or other............Please! | |

| IM turns me off. Posted: 4/25/2009 11:29:14 AM | | I want IM back....at least let us IM people on our fav. lists??? They should have sent an email/notification so we knew prior to the change. We still have option to turn off/on IM and such. Obviously this site needs some updating. | |

| IM turns me off. Posted: 4/25/2009 1:38:54 PM | Ok, so the opinion of OP seems to lean towards the return of IM. I agree. If I'm not mistaken, POF is for members communicating with other members, including IM. It was just one of the options. Should you not wish to indulge, turn it off, that simple. But completely take it off???.... I say we let the members have a say/vote.... Or does our opinion not matter?

| Instant Messenger Has Been Discontinued By 3rd party Vendor Posted: 4/25/2009 1:45:26 PM | | I just recently signed back up, And was disapointed to see IM gone. You get shot down offering your MSN too soon, So IM was a mediator. Otherwise you wait weeks for replies even if they are interested.. Very slow process. Bring it back Marcus.. | |

| IM was a big plus Posted: 4/26/2009 12:48:46 AM | Looking through the 13 pages that have arisen on this topic since my last post...I would say that we have a somewhat fair sampling of users, both young and old, male and female, and all that, that we can form a general opinion of the feelings on this site. Am I saying this is 100% accurate? Not in the least. However, since Admin and the so called "Mods" who seem to be completely in his ass about defending his stance, won't do a poll on the site main page or something to see how users feel about this, etc., I am just going to go go with what I have noticed.
In approximately 450+ posts, more people have been requesting the IM feature back than not. Of those people, most that were naysayers of the IM's return were women, and apparently women who were too lazy to either turn their IM feature off completely, or were too dumb to click NO when the IM request comes up. When you click YES, you run the risk of getting a Phallus in your face, yes, but you also get the chance, however slight, of meeting someone special, and not having to spend all night emailing back and forth to get to know one another, but rather spending a couple of minutes, or hours for that matter, chatting about everything in real time, and having fun.
If you were incapable of learning how to turn IMs off, or were just in general too lazy to click NO or shut it off, then you have no right to complain. If I am just not in the mood to chat with someone on my Y!Messenger, or MSN, I go invisible. the same can be done with an extra 45+ seconds on the site for the evening, or whatever, and yet you still complain, while not taking that extra step.
As for those that say we should be thankful, I agree. For a fairly long period of time, POF has been offering a great service to lonely people in the world, and as a "FREE" site, was able to get much more traffic. My caviat on that is this: Should Markus not be thankful to us as users for making him the millions upon millions of dollars for our "eyes on page"? Users make or break a website, and by turning your back on the users, and calling them "idiots"(his words, not ours) and not letting them know whats going on, false advertising(100% free site my a$$) etc., you show that you are not only ungrateful to those that made you your money, but that you consider yourself better than them. Granted, you may be able to code a webpage better than myself or some others, but I guarantee there are men and women on here who could frame a house better, or wire an office building, or shoot an enemy at a farther distance(god bless the armed services), etc. So acting like you are a god among men is total BS, and off putting.
If anyone that is reading this forum would like to know of a great site that has an integrated IM that used to use UserPlane, and is 100% free, PM me and I will be most happy to oblige. Thanks for your time, and those of you who "hated" the IM services, I look forward to reading all your flames on my post.

...Looking through the 13 pages that have arisen on this topic since my last post...I would say that we have a somewhat fair sampling of users, both young and old, male and female, and all that, that we can form a general opinion of the feelings on this site. Am I saying this is 100% accurate?... Nope not even close, there are ~800,000 active users on this site so the opinion of ~450 users only represents ~ .05% of the total number of users.
The only thing that this thread represents is the people that are upset enough to write something about it. There ones that either could not care either way or do not bother with the forums are not represented.
So this thread is not a valid representation of the general feelings of the majority of users that are members of POF.
IMO: The owner of this site is just that, the owner of the site, he has proven he is smart enough to create something that no one else has been able to do and thus probably has a much better idea what to do than most people when it comes to the future of POF.

| No IM devalues PoF! Posted: 4/26/2009 8:40:54 AM | To me no more IM really devalues PlentyofFish.com and I won't be logging on as often as I did previously.
Markus runs PoF as a business; Userplane's performance has gone steadily downhill over the past year and he's probably seen more and more complaints about IM.
I have seen other systems discontinue chat and IM because it starts taking too much time for the admins to keep it up and running and prevent it from becoming a legal liability to them.
Keep in mind at one time PoF had a chat room which was discontinued when it became too hard to keep things civil and polite.
I wonder whether guys who like to IM women with their pekker showing in the little video window or sending a crude sexually-oriented remark as their opener was a factor in no more IM.
The official story from Markus is that Userplane was discontinuing the service. Another person who claims to be a Webmaster who uses one of Userplane's services said in effect "Userplane isn't going away" ...HMMMMM!

| IM was an excellent tool Posted: 4/26/2009 9:01:08 AM | | I found IM to be an excellent tool as it was a good way to say hello to people without sending a message. If I found they did not want to talk to me them I moved on to somebody else.I never abused the system. The person always had a choice of whether they wanted to talk to you or not. Its a shame that this device has been removed and I am sure it will change this site considerably. I wish they would bring it back . I also understand if it did not belong to POF then that could be a problem. I have found POF to be an excellent site up to now and hope that it will continue. I want to thank plenty of fish for this wonderful site. | |

| IM Posted: 4/26/2009 3:36:58 PM | | I don't understand the logic in getting rid of something that was useful to many people here. This is really too bad that the community had no say in this. | |

| Instant Messenger Has Been Discontinued By 3rd party Vendor Posted: 4/28/2009 1:04:34 PM | No need to be ignorant!
And from that message it's so obvious that the Instant Messenger is going to be available for those who are paid members eventually.

| please bring back the IM Posted: 4/28/2009 3:03:44 PM | To: message 455, that is nonsence. If what the oner is saying is true then he is clearley more concerned about the UK than us in Canada and the UAS. The fact that the UK users are increasing due to fact that there isn't the IM any more is exyremely hard to beleive.
To message 467, no one is being ignornt. Their right, this site is new all but useless. and a big wast of time.

| IM turns me off. Posted: 4/28/2009 3:12:51 PM | | I have one thing to say----PLEASE bring back the IM. Some folks may not care for it but then, they don't have to use it. Also, I understand that there are quite a few wierdos that bother others with the use of the IM. The good thing is that no IM has to be answered. The Im makes your site special. | |
