Hey, BraveOne, thanx for the offer, but, as you know, IMs have been disabled, and, since I'm male & over 40, your email restrictions prevent me from emailing you, for that info. You can write me, though.

I find this to be the opposite...talking directly to the person is a much more effective use of time as one can determine if there is a reason to continue communication or not. Some form of IM would be greatly appreciated...

I must say that i was a very regular user of this site and now hardly use it now due to the fact that there is no IM function anymore. You should find another IM as it makes conversations easier and safer as no info is posted to the recipient. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

You could try this IM client for websites:

http://www.123flashchat.com/

Hope this helps out and maybe there will be IM ability on the site again.
Thanks for all the great work with the site as well.

what are you basing that on" the site is so much more effective with out it". It seems to me you were offering more, and now your offering less. I have made more contacts using the IM than anyother method, it also cuts time down on getting to know someone a lil bit before you may know if you would like to meet up. It also provided 1 more level of privacy for the people that wanted it before giving out any personel IM addresses. Rethink your position on this thoroughly or provide your patrons with the same info you have if it differs from the obvious.......

Well, after being here for a while with IM, and now for a while without it.. I can say (from my experience) that this site is now virtually useless.. IM was the only viable way to initiate contact with people on this site.... could initiate witty dioscourse form start..

Emails seem to be ignored ... unless perhaps you spend a lot of time composing a unique email, but I dont have that much life force left to be thoughtful and spend an hour composing an introduction, only to see UNREAD DELETED..

And, what is the purpose of putting "online now" next to a members profile.. It doesnt matter, you cant contact them.. It is just a tease, saying , "hey person on my favorites list, I see that you are on line NOW, I would like to chat with you since you are here... OH wait, I cant!!! I have no IM......"

That 'online now tag' is like putting fresh bananas in a starving monkeys cage, but having them locked in a plexiglass case.. He KNOWS they are there, he wants them, but he has no way to get them... Putting "onlineNOW" without IM is the worst possible tease...

That is the funniest thing that I've heared all day and the most truthful and logical thing that I've heared in a lond time. I agree 100%. I think I can speek for all well most of and say "I couldn't have said it better my self".

To message# 505:
The owner "says" that the IM is run by a 3rd. party and he "says that they have discontinued that particualr progrim. He also "says" that most people didn't like the IM, no realy, he actuay said that, and that in the UK, since there hase been no IM, the users there has increased by, I think it was 10%. He also said that he would NOT have IM a ever again. I know, something does smell fishy on Plenty Of Fish. For more info his posting is, I think within the first 2 pages.

He probably just didn't want to pay for it anymore, he already said it was the most expensive thing other than his server costs. I don't really know how you can say that removing the IM was the single thing that increased use of the site. I am sure some weeks you have more visitors than others, it could purely be coincidence but whatever. It is your site, do with it what you will. I think you will eventually learn that what differed this site from the other dating sites (other than being free) was the fact that you could IM. This site is pretty much useless now. Good luck keeping it alive.

i agree, it is silly having a dating site where you cant chat to anyone - emails are long and winded and with the im chat you can talk to someone without having to give them your aol name, yahoo or msn address until you are ready and confident that you want to go further with someone.

if the instant message facility does not come back i think the site will lose a lot of people and i will i am afraid also consider going somewhere else where you can chat on one to one basis without emailing and having to wait a long time for a reply or not whichever is the case

I believe the im feature was a good thing. Now that the im feature is not availible, i am not sending out emails. Many women just read and delete the emails without any care. Ims are simple and they see your picture and you get right to the point. Honestly why would i want to send about 15 emails back and forth to someone when the im feature you can judge whether or not you are compatible or not.

I wasn't going to post back in this thread, but I just noticed there is an Instant Message link under a profile on the Favorites page. I recall seeing an admin ask what page people were seeing the link. Well...

(Edit: And I just read the first page. Seems they modified more than just the title of the first post. Okay, so the favs page has yet to be modified. FWIW, that makes me even more suspicious now.)

I have been paying attention to my behavior since the IM has gone away. I sign in to check the newest members, to see if I have any messages, or to check who has viewed my profile or added me to favs. No reason to sit idle anymore if someone wants to IM me, so I usually log out after that. I definitely don't hang out on POF as much as I used to, especially since I can rely on email notifications for favs and new messages. I don't even have the urge to browse the forums. Oh, I did sign up on another dating site because now that a valuable tool has been taken away, I need to expand my search efforts by browsing listings elsewhere to make up for the large gap in communication here. Not sure how women are handling the change. I'm not seeing any increased local activity, whether it be through messages, favs, or local forum posts.

I'm noticing an IM link under so-called 'serious members' too, I agree something seems fishy there. I definitely spend less time signed in here since they took the IM away, no doubt about it.

I miss the IM. I think the site was better with it though admittedly it was sometimes screwed up but it never interfered with other functions on the site (for me anyway). And since you could turn off the IM I don't see how not having IM would increase users.

But if it's expensive and discontinued then there it is. I just wanted to say that I think finding a new IM would improve the site and increase the length of time users visit the site.
For the time being I'm setting up a hotmail account just for chatting with people from POF. Like others I find IM an easier way to chat and develop a rapport with strangers but don't want to have a bunch of people I don't know cluttering up my real msn.

I can see why some users think IM is going to be shifted exclusively to paid members but I don't see that happening. POF has proven that you can have a successful free dating site and that there is a demand for it. I'm sure they are aware that another free dating site will emerge if people have to pay for services on this one.

I would like to see the IM feature returned. I understand it wasn't owned by POF and they had no control over it being shut down. In this tech world there is a way to get it back, even if a different carrier is used. As for the people that posted that they didn't like, DUH just go to your settings and turn it off. Nobody was forcing you to use it! It was a valuable asset to many patrons of this site. Freedom and personal choice rule.

There are links in previous posts to the Userplane website, (Userplane was the Instent Messenger program thing) As far a i know, the userplane website is still running and thier program is free, and is supposed to make money for pof via adverts...

So I have a question....if the Im Messenger has been discontinued, WHY do GOLD members have the options, that's messed up and unfair. That's no fair for the people that don't have a GOLD membership!

Hey people I know it's a lot of pages of posts to go through, but at this point you're all asking the same questions that have been answered over and over. Gold members do not have the IM. If you click on the IM link under their name it takes you to another page, not to the Userplane IM.

IM turns me ON!
Posted: 5/3/2009 8:00:33 PM
The IM feature has to come back. How about having certain user profiles that have been "grandfathered" in? Member of the site when it was new? Then those users keep IM and newer users don't get it.
Not having IM is like internet connections years ago. Where you can get the internet but you either choose between 24 hrs of interent or 10 hrs of internet a DAY! I'm guessing people went with 24 hr internet connections! Please find a way to bring IM back!

I had no idea the IM chat was no longer. I was wondering why I haven't been getting any pop up chat windows lately from other people.

I sometimes liked it cuz it was kinda fun, but took forever to connect. I like using Yahoo IM better anyway.

I like using Yahoo IM better anyway.

That's one smart chickie.

Pretty well every other IM; Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, Skype, etc. work better than the discontinued IM.
