| Instant Messenger Has Been Discontinued By 3rd party Vendor Posted: 5/4/2009 9:50:04 PM | Hmmm
Well, I feel like an addict who has cut off.. I hadnt realized how much I had invsted and how dependent I had become to the IM in this site to initiating contact.
I have been actually suffering withdrawl... I now log on to this site out of habit, but the rush is gone... I have not been able to start a single correspondence since IM was removed, despite my futile attempts at email initiations..
Well, the pof withdrawl has passed, and I tried an alternative... I actually went out to a singles bar... and summoned up some resolve and talked with more women in one night than in the past month on this site.. (of course, that wasn't many.. and it certianly wasnt free... the bar tab could have provided a few months on a Pay Site ) Funny, because I turned to on line dating a couple of years ago as an alternative to the mounting frustrations with the bar scene..
The tagline for my profile on POF was a simple question.. "Is this (PoF) really better than the Bars" well, without IM, the answer , sadly, is not any more!!

| Why does everyone have their IM turned off? Posted: 5/5/2009 5:01:19 AM | | Why wouldnt they at least communicate what is happening? POF is invisible when it comes to some sort of HELP in any way. I realize its free but shouldnt they at least communicate! | |
|
| Why does everyone have their IM turned off? Posted: 5/5/2009 8:05:56 AM | | If nearly all want the I.M back.So why not look at another provider. Many are getting disappionted with the site. It provide asafe means of chatting to those who do not want to give out the messanger services straight away! | |
|
| IM turns me off. Posted: 5/5/2009 12:48:18 PM | | actually i had some good conversations on im.dont understand the problem.if ytou didnt want to talk to someone you didnt have to. | |
|
| IM turns me ON! Posted: 5/5/2009 12:54:19 PM | still new to this message thing disreguard last subject.but the message stays the same. please bring back the im. | |
|
| Are you kidding me? Posted: 5/5/2009 4:28:50 PM | To message519 actually NO THAY DON'T. Why would any one want to waste more time adding people, blocking people, going back and forth, back and forth. From logging in to pof then to msn to chat, then back to pof to get messages and peoples addresses for their msn. If people prefer doing that, than they have way too much time on their hands. Dating sits are supposed to make chatting/dating easier not much much harded and a lot more stressful. | |
|
| Are you kidding me? Posted: 5/5/2009 5:12:56 PM | ^^^
If choose to make it that complicated that is your choice.
No need to block anyone. Add only users to your other IM accounts with whom you wish to talk.
Unless your computer is ancient you should be able to have more than one application open at the same time, and stay logged in.
I have used other services, concurrently with POF and have no problem whatsoever.

| IM turns me off. Posted: 5/6/2009 11:22:22 AM | I agree. The chat function was a great way to connect/screen(aka nuke) people before handing out my email address.
What a bummer. | |
|
| IM turns me off. Posted: 5/6/2009 11:55:42 AM | | dear adm staff can you bring back the im we all like it in here that way we can chat and get to know each other better so send me an message ok | |
|
| Are you kidding me? Posted: 5/6/2009 12:37:31 PM | | LOL I'm not choosing to make it complicated and saying it is complicated and I didn't say any thing adout logging on and off so I don't know where you got that. But it is still much much easer to click once insted of all that other noncense. Most men act a lot different once you add them to msn. Hence the blocking. | |
|
| Are you kidding me? Posted: 5/6/2009 12:51:25 PM | | Instead of the IM why not just have a chat room? | |
|
| Are you kidding me? Posted: 5/6/2009 1:04:44 PM | | Just for the record I use to log in to this site several times a day and chat with friends. Now without messenger I log in maybe once a week to check email. I have lost interest in the site and will not be here often until IM is brought back. | |
|
| IM turns me off. Posted: 5/6/2009 7:20:26 PM | I was VERY discouraged to see that IM had been deleted from POF. Hugely disapointed !! I had wonderful male friends who live quite a distance but we swtill stayed in touch by IM. Surrrre, bring up Yahoo, but I have been scammed so many times on Yahoo and never on POF. Please bring back Im on POF! Thanks for listening to my venting. | |
|
| IM turns me ON! Posted: 5/6/2009 9:14:12 PM | I personally like that im has been turned off. Half the time it didn't work for me anyway. I would sit for awhile before I could actually connect! Sending an email to another member seems to be working just fine. If they read it and don't answer that tells me that we were not compatable. Just pick up and move on to the next. I have made a great many friends and have had better luck with the emails. It gives you an chance to think and put together a nice email instead of just HI and the akward moments afterwards thinking " oh no now what do I say?" LOL I usually chat for awhile through emails before I give out my msn or yahoo addy. I have a messenger that is completly seperate from the rest of my personal life. With my screen name. If you don't want to take the time to put the person on your MSN or Yahoo then just email back and forth. Once your both on at the same time youwould be surprised at how fast the emails go back and forth. I am on POF more now than I was before checking emails and sending out emails. Alot more fun personally. Thanks so much for turning IM off. | |

| IM turns me ON! Posted: 5/7/2009 9:06:22 AM | Franky I have lost interest with this site. The Owner of this site States on other Sites "He listens to feed back." But states on these forums that opinions of his forum users is irrelevent. So I say this, "Your site has become irrelevent to me." I spend my time on other free dating sites now. ie Sites that listen and work at making their site user friendly and make me feel welcome and wanted. Attracting people who are looking for love and relationships.
I have been on this site since Nov of 2008.I Loved it at first and tried very hard to find someone to share my life with. I injoyed the site until This sites owner alienated users who were likewise in search as I. Its clear he has lost sight of why this site became popular, even though he has been reminded over and over the last few months.
Its my Humble opinion that if the site owner/Admin does not wake up to his handling of this site, It will wither away like a fish without water ie Lost Users.

| IM turns me ON! Posted: 5/7/2009 11:01:55 AM | Marcus is full of it:
http://www.userplane.com/
Still offering services. Not GONE as he claims.
Read from the first post >> Message 1 From Admin - It's being dicontinued in June by the owners, Admin has removed it now - no one full of anything - just a lack of reading on your part

| Instant Messenger Has Been Discontinued By 3rd party Vendor Posted: 5/7/2009 11:28:50 AM | Wow.. So many users who really miss the IM chat feature.. Ok.. Here I have the answer to keep all happy.. Now instead of paying a monthly fee towards this so called Serious Members plan, to keep the IM chat active.. I know a lot of users are against this.. But on the other hand.. POF was to good to be True to Remain a free IM chat sight.. SO my answer to this is a one time user fee for the IM chat service.. Maybe a fee of $10.00 to $25.00,That would be reasonable to me, and I think also to the Majority of IM users on the POF sight.. But the real Question is?.. Is it reasonable enough for the Owners of the IM chat system.. Or has Greed for Money gotten the Best of them.. You know?.. Just like the Oil Companies...lol!.. There is an easy soultion to this as I have mentioned," IM" sure all parties involved could agree.... So lets settle the issue at home & all be happy again on POF.... | |

| Instant Messenger Has Been Discontinued By 3rd party Vendor Posted: 5/7/2009 11:40:09 AM | In the unlikely event that Markus does decide to implement an IM function on POF please let it be a better product than the crap that was offered before.
I'd happily forego video, and even audio if need be, in order to get a fast, streamlined and reliable feature.

Well' All i can say is it will be a cold day in he11 before i would pay to talk to the women on here. Or anywhere else for that matter. I don't mean that to sound ugly or mean against women. But the fact of the matter is there are millions of them scattered all over gods green earth. Why would anyone want to pay to chat with one of them when it can be done freely anytime of the day or night?
As i have said in a previous post. I've been here for 2 years. Talked to many women and been out with a bunch of them from here. As a matter of fact seeing one from here now. Not the first time did i ever need the IM. All my friends here i talk to' Never needed the IM to chat with them. Every nutty woman i ever met here i talked to her on yahoo messenger first. They get nutty with me to the yahoo messenger block list they go and to the POF block list they go. No more problem. I never needed that sorry POF messenger to do it. I just don't get it why people are still gripping over this messenger thing. It was a useless piece of junk. I'm still glad it's gone. There are easier ways of weeding through the junk than any on site web messenger POF could get. Who knows' Truth be told AOL might have wanted to start charging Markus for there messenger service. Markus wouldn't go for it because he knew the grand majority of POF users wouldn't go for it. I know i wouldn't. Just a thought.
By the way. Just for the record. Markus doesn't owe anyone a explanation for jackshyt. We all are here for free. When we start all paying for services then we can all gripe because Markus isn't coming back to this thread to tell us anything. Until that time he owes us nothing.

| Why does everyone have their IM turned off? Posted: 5/8/2009 5:31:39 PM | I'll add my name to the people who are missing the IM feature. I thought it was one of the best features of the site. I've met some awesome people via spontaneous chat conversations.
Sad, sad, sad.

| Is POf failing? Posted: 5/8/2009 9:37:18 PM | I seem unable to log in most of the time, and no one seems to care. Everything considered, the site and lack of infrastructure are becoming more trouble that the site offers.
POF relies on members to log-on for the enormous profits paid to POF. That is all well and good IF a member is, in reality, able to log-in.
|
| Is POf failing? Posted: 5/9/2009 11:49:45 AM | | IM was great feature. POF will loose alot of its allure by not having IM option. I found it to be way more effective way than email to build repore. | |
