I M for IM! Please bring IM back ... please, please?
Posted: 6/1/2009 11:19:54 AM
Dear lovely POF Administrators --

LOVE the site --
but please, please, PLEASE bring IM back! Or, I mean: develop a new system for IM, since I understand you don't "own" the Userplaney thing. Like many have said, I rely on it as an editing (lol, weeding) tool: NetDating is like theatre for many folks here, but it's pretty hard to hide your real responses in the instant moment. And -- it is so much more exciting to have immediate exchange! I'm happy to move the conversation to another IM provider -- once I have some sense (if that's possible!) of the person with whom I'm connecting. And while I understand that IM is a horrible nuisance for some, those folks can always just turn it off --
the rest of us just want to be able to "turn (it) on".

I'm among those users who'd be happy to pay a modest fee for IM:
I M for IM!!!!
Please consider?

warmly,
GA

Since Marcus did away with the IM he has increased traffic tremendously, how? By having people log on continuously to check emails. What did that do ? It increased the value of his website by about 4 times. By trick or treat he's making even more money by doing away with a feature that everyone liked about the site and instead has opted for greed!

Want to see? go to

stimator.com and type in plentyoffish.com

when the IM was first done away with the site was worth about 4.9 million...

See it's worth today and see what drives it up... TRAFFIC!

I am seriously disappointed there is no IM feature. Although, userplane was no longer working on my computer when I deleted my profile a couple mths ago. I just couldn't figure it out. It kept telling me to update my flash player. I tried over and over to update it, but still no luck.
Now I come back hoping for the best and they've eliminated all together? I'm sad. When it was working, it was great. It had video and sound. All I had to do was sit there and talk.
I sure hope they come up with something else or get it back.

Wow!!!!!!

I can't express how disappointed I am in the IM being discontinued. I have been a member, on and off, since October 2006. Through all the nonsense, games, lies and phoniness I've still met some awesome people on this site. Without the IM however, 99% of those I wouldn't have even talked to at all!!!!!!! At the very least, obtain and set up a main chatroom for the general POF population to come to. This is after all as well as being a dating site, a gathering place, a social club, a place to offer opinions and converse.

I find the site now to be extremely boring. I rarely come in but to just do a very quick look around and then leave whereas with the IM many times conversations would be had. There are many sites that have a main chatroom that is included with free memberships...this site being what it has been, very popular and with alot of traffic, needs to have some platform for people to chat one on one.

As far as:" Since Marcus did away with the IM he has increased traffic tremendously, how? By having people log on continuously to check emails. What did that do ? It increased the value of his website by about 4 times. By trick or treat he's making even more money by doing away with a feature that everyone liked about the site and instead has opted for greed!

......actually, I checked five minutes ago and in fact if that were Marcus' s motivation he's shot himself in the foot cause as of today his site worth in USD is $2,624,238., according to the very site suggested by 'Greed'.

Let grab a grip here on reality and offer to, what appears to be the majority, some live one on one communication ability that those who don't care for can choose not to.

Hoping for the reality check,

Lynn

I agree with the fact that there is less idiots on the site due to the discontinuation of IM but it would be nice for people who appear in each others friends lists to be able to chat with each other on the site before they exchange MSM or other IM web addresses with their personal email addresses on.

Actually, not so sure how anyone of us, besides Marcus and or Moderators , could tell if or not, there are any less 'idiots' when one couldn't know without being IM'd?? For those who did not enjoy the IM feature however, the option to shut it off for any one particular person, was always an option for them. Hence, no 'idiots'. ' Idiots' are still able to email. Now it give no one the choice to indulge in the feature or not. We ALL now have no way to chat live at all. BORRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG.

Make an initial email contact with someone you think you will like based on reading their profile, have a disposable MSN or Yahoo ID and then invite them - not difficult at all - but that of course, depends on your preferred mode of contact and how adaptable one is to change and can see beyond the box to an alternate solution.

As for the number of idiots - I can't tell based on the removal of the IM, but the level as far as the forums are concerned, is unchanged - IMO.

We might as well just stop using POF and choose a site that offers IM. POF obviously has no intention of taking us seriously. Disposable Yahoo IDs? I find the suggestion insulting.

OMG!! So you suggest that I am not 'adaptable to change' or able to 'see beyond the box' because PoF has removed all abilities to contact another person live, one on one??????????????? Are you kidding me?? I TOTALLY take that as insult. Why in the world would the only other method to communicate on the site, being via email, have ANYTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that the majority have spoken and it is that we want the IM returned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evading then insulting myself and apparently others by making such a ridiculous suggestion as to open a 'disposable MSN or Yahoo ID' is firstly, not likely going to happen, is a complete waste of everyone's time, a redundant maneuver and of little use to anyone but yourself perhaps. Why would we? Why SHOULD we? Secondly, it has absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand being that you, the site, have some very upset and unhappy people who want the service returned or have some immediate method to communicate. Have you not been reading the posts?

Please, my attempting to make some suggestions, which include me disputing monetary selfishness against Markus, to have some method of instant communication returned certainly didn't deserve being insulted. If that is the only representation of the site's attitude regarding customer concerns and service then it is obvious that there will be no moves made to make the majority want to continue to be part of this community.

Regardless of all of it, 'disposable' or no, emailing and waiting for a reply that may or may not come, flipping back and forth between pages while waiting, is BOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG.

Thanks for your constructive offers of resolution.....oh......and insults.

This "stimator.com" has no bearing on how much a site is worth. Why do I say this? A site I use for family email (the family's last name) that gets about 10 hits a day if that, that is only used as a mail server, the only http page is the home page, the webmail page is .htaccess and that site claims my family email site is worth $120.

As for IM, the company they worked with is stopping the use of their buggy program (yay for me, that thing was annoying). But per topic, there are plenty of free resources out there (open source) that the owner could incorporate into his website. Or if the claims are true, that he wrote the entire site, including the forums, whipping up an IM resource shouldn't be that large of a task for him.

The thing being folks is a lot of people liked it.So they had a choose to chat on here and not use there private emails and msn. The facotr that some miss. Also as per the lady above you don't miss it good for you, but i wil say this. Its like you said youhad theopinion to TURN IT OFF.Same of those who don't like to watch tv. Those of you who write on here about not missing it. Because you already turned it off. Your making a mute point don't you think and its like waht Markus said.He had no choose in the matterand agian i ask. What is the point of this forum. He will not be bringing it back of providing another provider for it.So the point of this forum. Was just really to let you knowit gone. Its not coming back and being a premium member. Does not provide it or provide great benifits for that matter.Except for shinygold star...lol And few little extra giftsand back grounds. To quote a friend. Whoow the f*** whoo!!!

Yes, I read the two messages from IM. Listen, Pof, should I state offered "IM" privileges for the two years I've been on this site. Give and take it away. Hmmmm...... paid for upgrade? I guess I was not paying attention as I do not know what they are talking about. NOT a happy camper. It is time to move on. Note I do not need this attention in seeking to express my disappointment on this forum. But reality is, you only get what you pay for.

I AM VERY MUCH MISSING MY IM FEATURE.I WILL ALSO ASK THE ADMIN TO PLEASE CONSIDER BRINGING IT BACK. I FEW OF THESE POSTS IN MY OPINION ARE CORRECT AS A WOMAN ESPECIALLY, WE DO GET INUNDATED WITH EMAILS AND IT IS A GOOD RESOURCE FOR SCREENING WITH WHOM YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHAT WITH. IT IS EASIER AND MORE PERSONAL THAN EMAILING BACK AND FORTH. SO PLEASE CONSIDER REPLACING IT.. THANKS FOR ALLOWING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE MY OPINION. ANGEL
