spamspamspam.com and spam both have IM systems. Just fyi. Of course there is some charge....ugh...

What I don't understand is why the powers that be at POF have not removed all evidence of the instant messenger..
The mods don't have access to the entire site just the forums, as such, they can't edit text on any reference other than forum posts.
Corrections to the rest of the site are up to Admin and whoever else is programming. YMMV. | |

Not quite so private- but in common use all over, for years.
The added bonus is nobody is going to bother putting you in their list if they aren't much bothered to chat for long- and IM here could be a waster on occasion. Be honest!
Skype's another freeby worthy of consideration. | |

But a good programmer knows how to plug in the information needed to program an IM into the site. I would thing that with the huge amount of success that this site has had over the years, that the money spent to do it, would be more than worth it. I've just recently come back to the site, with the IM being one of the reasons. I'm a single parent, so giving someone my email address or my username for msn or something just isn't something I want to do before I can screen the person I'm speaking with properly. The IM allowed me to do that. Using msn, anyone in your list, can find out all kinds of private information about you, whether you want them to or not, because there are no restrictions anywhere to stop them from getting the information. Here, with POF, well you can block people that you think are creepy or what have you, but you can also set up your profile with the restrictions needed to weed some of them out, and the ones that you miss with that, well it's usually an easy feat to catch them with the IM. I've spoken to some very witty and humorous people using the IM, and wish that you would either find another one that you can plug into the site, or program one in yourself.
