Apparently you don't suffer from any health condition otherwise you would feel the same.
Add the word 'assumption' to the amusing and ironic words, because I honestly don't get how anyone can say whether someone does/does not suffer from a health condition simply by reading a post without actually knowing the person...

| Should AHC cover sex changes? Posted: 4/20/2009 1:01:32 PM | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think you misunderstand when I say I feel empathy and compassion for people who suffer from a medical condition because myself I am afflicted. When one suffers from a medical condition, then there is empathy towards others who also do. | |

| Should AHC cover sex changes? Posted: 4/20/2009 1:07:26 PM | Unafflicted people can be just as empathetic and compassionate as those who have afflictions, don't kid yourself ok?
I am not transgendered, I do not have cancer, I do not have MS, etc..., but just because I don't have any of those afflictions, doesn't mean I don't have compassion.
That statement makes me just shake my head, sorry.

| Should AHC cover sex changes? Posted: 4/20/2009 1:08:48 PM | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are consciously taking my words to twist them to have a battle of words with me. So shake your head all you want. | |

What you're essentially saying is that healthy people lack empathy and compassion, and only those with medical issues are capable of those feelings.
I'm just pointing out that in this case, your assumptions are dead wrong. Who are you to tell us who is capable of feeling certain things?
I'm not twisting nothing around. You, on the other hand, are back pedaling.

Posted: 4/20/2009 2:38:28 PM | | Relating to only people with serious aflictions of their own being capable of feeling compassion for other people who suffer some sort of malady, I KNOW that's not true. I myself suffer from being 1/2 paralyzed below the knee on my right side. (bad MV accident) Often commonly referred to as "dropfoot". There's a chance that stem-cell treatment could repair the damaged nerves and restore full use of my leg. You don't see me crying for handouts to fund a questionable treatment in an attempt to get my old life back. I feel that'd just not be reasonable nor realistic. I stand by my opinion of taxpayers being handed the tab for a few sex changes as being unreasonable too.

I hope for your sake that stem cell research comes up with something helpful for you and that you don't have to cover it yourself.
I think what this thread does highlight is the need for a reformation of the health care system in Canada and the disparities from one province to the next. Universal care should be just that - universal; the way it's managed and executed in Canada isn't working. It's expensive and the costs just keep rising. It can't be easy to determine what is covered and what isn't; it definitely time to revamp how we fund health-care.
