It's all an issue of INTENT. If someone wants to find a "real relationship" it can be done fairly quickly, because this person, is going to be more receptive to meeting, and accepting the people they do meet, as well as putting forth an effort. Especially men.

Most women want relationships, most men online want sex only, so if a man really wants relationship it's a rarity and he should find women who is receptive to this pretty quickly. And yes, you have to zero in on one person (fish) in order for a relationship to develop, that's usually how it works. For some reason, people think they have all these options online, but look at the reality, even if 10,000 people fit your criteria and lived within 40 miles of you, how many do think would like you and vice/versa? Chances are a year or two from now, the same people will be on here looking for the "perfect mate".

People are way to hung up on numbers, emailing 1000 women in hopes of a response is futile. Yes, you'll get response, but from who? Only those that you'll have sex with, not a relationship with? This is what's wrong with online dating.

Oh Ruffian2 , I think you hit the nail on the wall when you say,
It's all an issue of INTENT
.

Unfortunately, this is not only true of online dating, but also to dating in the real world. Just go to a club on the weekends - they are bigger meat markets than a butcher shop!

Although, my friend met her fiancee at a Karaoke bar that we dragged her to to get her out of the house, so I guess there are some good fish left among the bottom crawlers. And neither look like they jumped out of a fashion magazine, but they are happy with who they have and just happy not to have to date around any more, like the serial daters you mentioned in your post.

I've been on and off this site since I moved out of the marital home in 12/06.

I've been in relationships as short as a couple of weeks, a couple for a few months, and one for two years, and am presently involved with a woman for about a month now.

The down time between relationships was never more than about a month, tops..and during those times I never went more than a couple of weeks without doing any dating, and that was mostly due to needing time to "recoup".

For those not having luck in catching any fish, I suggest rewriting your entire profile. Check out as many profiles of your OWN gender to see what the competition is writing. Unique profiles that show personality get results.
