Q2: Doesn't relate to a pic, but a phrase that recurs in 73% of the ladies' profiles..."I'm just as comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt as an evening gown." blech
Okay, well if you're "just as comfortable", then go put on a dress and hop on the back of the bike...we're going for a ride.
Been there, done that .... I even wore my high heels. Some of us ARE adventurous, ya know!

*applaudes the man* Good for you...cause personally, I love getting dressed up and slipping on a pair of three inch heels.

Whew... motorcycles.
Edited to say: God bless you Mae.

Would you gripe about a man that has golf clubs or a sail boat, rebuilds cars, has jet skiis???
C'mon, find someone with the same interests and get on with it!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 4:15:14 PM | Okay - OP here. I did not say I found anything objectionable - just surprised because not one married guy I know has a motorcycle, but both here and on another site I found LOTS of guys with two wheels instead of four. I love riding in my convertible (hey, maybe that's MY equivalent) and I don't own tons of shoes or other "girly" money-eaters. I love sports - especially baseball - which is more of a "guy" thing; I'm just kind of scared of motorcycles.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not opposed to a guy on a motorcycle - guess I don't want to think I'm disqualified because I'm not an aficionado.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 4:15:44 PM | Well Op the friends in my circle who ride do so for many reasons ..some have had the life long love of it. Some had them gave them up for family resposibilities and now have them back because the kids are grown and have some free money and are able to spend some of that on themselves now. Some just like them because we can let our bad boy side out again from time to time and go back to being a nice guy when we are done. But I dont know any of us who didn't like a ride on a cool day ( or some hot ones too) when our girl leaned up close to us and wrapped her arms around and held on tight ( not so easy to do in a car). Others like me like the bike and have the been there and done that mentality but have gotten rid of them. I had far too many close calls with drivers who either didn't see the bike or just didnt care, and not to mention a few deer who like to play chicken from a 90 degree angle. So I agree with ran ran on the leathers .. road rash hurts a heck of a lot more now than it did in my 20's and I dont heal as quick anymore..lol. Not to mention no one likes to say they have gotten real good at laying down the bike.
I still like the feel of the sun on my skin and the wind in the hair ( too bad all the hair is gone now..lol) so I got a convertable. It is simply how we chose to express ourselves just as some of us would go out and buy a boat or a new set of clubs. So its pretty simple you either like us for who we are or you don't.
As for the female constant I have seen ..Let me get back to you on that

LovesWordsAndMusic :Is there some female equivalent of this? Guys, is there some constant you see in us ladies over 45? Inquiring minds want to know!
Have been thinking about this question while working and to be honest I think it would depend on where the woman lived and other things.
Like here in CA outdoor activities are important so women friends and I are giddy as all get out when we get sports equipment. We have been looking at the new LLBean catalog with the kayaks. Cooking is also important to my friends as well as myself because we are involved with the slow food movement, growing our own food etc.
Someone in the south may want something different than someone in the Rockies. A NYC woman may be into shoes. Someone in Hawaii, or those I know, are into anything to do with the ocean, swimming, cooking.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 5:18:18 PM | Bikers like bikes, male and female. Men seem to have a bit more money and different priorities. My girls have bikes. They also have some shoes. I don't have a bike and I don't have tons of shoes.
Men who post the bike in a pic are definitely telling all the gals what they like and what's important to them. Guys who post pics of children are family guys. Same for fishing, camping, hunting, or cars.
Just think of those pictures as a sure way to know what matters to a man. That can save you some time and energy if you know you don't like biking.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 5:21:10 PM | Wings, your post made me laugh! This reminded me of the summer the youngest hooked a nice rainbow on the river and while landing it, it flipped up into her face and slapped her right as she opend her mouth to say something smart. Kid was all of 5 and quite indignant about getting slimed.
Thanks for the laughs! | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 6:07:29 PM | I had a sport bike in my 30's and I expect to get another eventually. (I couldn't care less about road clunkers or carrying a passenger.) Personally, I like them because it's a rush to drive them.
I love riding in my convertible (hey, maybe that's MY equivalent) Well, it's sort of close, except for the handling, acceleration and speed. Everything happens faster on a bike.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 6:37:16 PM | men don't just fall in love with motorcycles, we've loved them since we were able to climb on the littelist mini -i think i was seven when i got to ride my friends motorbike -from there i pine'd for one until my parents gave in and bought me one -i had to pay them back for it with my paper route money -well worth it. doesn't take long to realize girls love a guy with a bike. -total babe magnets - no gal can resist taking a second look at a guy with a bike, and how fun it was walking past the bicycles in the schoolyard to my bike and have a gal jump on the back, squeeze her arms tightly around you, begging you to take her home... "but better let me off a block before you get to my house -my parents would kill me if they caught me on a bike -with you" i remember showing off a speeding ticket (very expensive one) in my english class -i had soooo many pity dates and phone numbers by the end of the day, i was dancing into court with a smile on my face. (thank you officer dickhead... no really, my bad boy image has begun) most guys finally just feel its now or never and get a bike before they get old and regret never making the investment in liberation and fun. | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 7:34:59 PM | Nice post! However, I am at the opposite end of your view. I find that there is a disproportionate number of women in my age-search group (39-55) have listed Motorcycle as interest! They either have their own or want to find someone who rides.
What's up with that?!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 8:59:14 PM | | Not all men ride motorcycles. But if you realy want to know why some men do. You just got to ride it. As for me i love the feel of it the control you have and sometimes when you dont. People who ride mostly have diffrent attitude about life and are more of a chance takers. For some people its the image they like to show. You might also notice they ride once or twice a month, They make up close to 80% of riders. For others we love the feel of speed the rush of pushing it to the edge of traction. For me i ride everywhere rain or shine. Unless i go on a date or need to carry something too big for the bike. Oh yea i ride a rice burner. Sorry but bikes are a big thing for me. A woman that rides is very sexy. | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 10:26:40 PM | Many men of my acquaintance in their 40s-50s had bikes in their teens/20's. When their families developed, many chose to reduce the risk and redirect their finances by selling the bike. Now, with older or grown children and a bit more disposable income, they're re-connecting with a love of their youth. This seems like a reasonable assessment. However, there are always exceptions. I have a woman friend, she is 60 now, and she started riding about 10 years ago. She's really into her bike. Her husband doesn't ride, so she either goes alone, with a group of other cyclists, or he rides on the back.
I agree with ringo about question 2. I have always had pets, all my life, so this doesn't apply to me. I'm not so sure about this one. I guess if women were busy raising kids for 20 years, and now the kids are out of the house, they get a cat or dog? I guess that makes sense.
Oh and BTW, I'm looking for a nice over 45 guy with a bike who wants to spend a couple of months touring the Greek islands, with me riding on the back, of course.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 11:00:48 PM | When I was twenty something riding was a way of life. Then I had kids and it was smarter to buy the minivan and lose the bike. Now that the child rearing years are over - I'll probably buy another, For me there are no hidden reasons beyond that. But then again I won't go out and buy the $30,000.00 Harley either! A nice basket case that I can build up the way I want and that likely won't impress anyone once it's done is all I need.
On the other hand - My best friend did buy the Harley along with all the leather and accesories that proclaim him to be an O'yiker (old yuppie biker). Along with the classic Vette and a Firebird convertable. Now he cruises the college bars every weekend without his wife. Anyone really need to be told why?
I think it works both ways - just depends on the person.

'm not judging - really I'm not. But it seems like riding a motorcycle is WAY overrepresented statistically among the men on this forum and POF. I am amazed how many guys put pictures of their bikes - with or without them in the shot - on their profiles. Is there some female equivalent of this? Guys, is there some constant you see in us ladies over 45? Inquiring minds want to know!
The same is true of women on here. I've never seen any other dating site with so many women that own bikes.
But there is a fairly simple reason for it too. There used to be a connection of sorts between PoF and "BikerPlanet" - a biker WWW site. I used to see the BikerPlanet ads on here all the time. Not sure of that connection still exists or not but even so, if Bikers as a general lot are aware of PoF, then others there will know of PoF through word of mouth.
I'd guess that if PoF put ads on the "Aquarium World" WWW site you'd have a bunch of Aquarium enthusiasts on here within a few months too.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 5:02:54 AM | | I bought my first motorcycle when I was 15 and have owned one ever since. They are my passion. All my bike wind up having more miles on them than the cars I've had at the corresponding time. I tour from May to October ... That is to say I leave home and return 5 -6 month later. Travel the whole time on the motorcycle. Love it. The fact that I'm in my late 50's has nothing to do with (still) having a bike. | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 5:35:08 AM | I've been riding motorcycles since my teens. Once discovering the sound and power of Harley's, there is no turning back! lol There are more and more women today riding bikes than ever noted in History. It's like an aquired taste. You have to experience it to enjoy it. Some like scuba diving, others like NASCAR, some like to bowl. It's a proud accomplishment for alot of men to be a member of the Harley Owner's Group. You would be suprised at the different quality of life that enjoys bikes. There are attorney's, CEO's, police officers, Government Officials, TV Spokesmen, Women, etc.... the list goes on forever. It's an elite group of people, like the Marines. There are many, many benefit rides for those who died, or cancer programs for kids, or to help out a struggling family. Plus.......... there's just nothing like a Harley! Why do women love shoes so much????? Hmmmm! lol
