| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 9:28:27 AM | So The OP ask why so many single guys over 45 ride Motorcycles? That's an easy one to answer. One day he brought home a nice brand new shiny Harley. The wife says it's either me are the Harley. Guess which one won out? | |

I agree, people driving and talking /texting on their damn phones happens really way too fast to anyone around them on a bike these days unfortunately... my 2 seater convertable has a V8, it can happen plenty fast enough for me

Guys, is there some constant you see in us ladies over 45? Inquiring minds want to know!
The only common thread I see is either a woman's kids or her pets. As far as guys and their motorcycles, most guys like powerful noisy machines. It's in our blood. Don't ask us to change; it's just what we are!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 2:46:12 PM | I have noticed the frequency of murdercycles in profiles - even men over 60. I don't contact the men with bikes, because I have no intention of riding, nor would I expect him to stay home just because I won't ride. With that being said, I am not about to be second choice. | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 4:55:09 PM | Since you are into murder.....you do not have to worry much about it anyway.....
OT........There are many of us that had, and rode motorcycles when much younger, put them away for our families and doing the daddy and mommy thing, became wealthy enough, or single enough to bring that side of us back into the large picture.
Just because I enjoy scuba diving very much, or white sandy beaches, does not mean that I am a beach bum, or a vagrant living on a beach, so is the same with Harleys and how I feel about them.
I am not "in love" with my Harley, nor am I chained to scuba diving and beaches, but I will enjoy them and what they do for me mentally, emotionally, and physically, when it comes to adventures, freedom, and removal of stress.
I have had those that will not get on the back of my Harley, or ride one of their own, and I have had those that would not, could not, and never felt like, putting on a tank and heading under water with me, and that is their choice. What becomes my choice will be who I decide to keep around me, enjoy me, and have with me while I do those things, and I can promise you that it will be those who want to rather than those who do not.
Just my opinion........

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 5:10:08 PM | | And I thought POF was a women's Harley club...seeing profiles of women on their Harley...or stating they like to ride...I think it's just the fascination of riding that appeals to many...kinda sorta like the convertible coupe...people like the open air on the open road. | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 6:39:08 PM | Re the OP. The answer, as far as I am concerned is twofold. First, it is because of some of them wanting to hold on to their youth as long as they can. Second, because so many women love riding motorcycles and/or admiring the men who ride said machine....
Almost said....and the men who ride them...in the last sentence. Realized the double meaning, lol!!!!!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 7:04:41 PM | Some people [note: I didn't say 'MEN'] start riding when they are very young, let's say 15 years old.
More join in at 16
At 18, a few more start riding
At 22 a few that never have, try a motorcycle and LIKE it.
At 25 more ride a bike and keep riding
SENSING A TREND HERE?
By the time YOU hit 45, you look around and see a lot of riders... YOU seem to think it's because when men turn 45 they jump on a bike and START riding.
Your observation is correct, but your conclusion is wrong.... you're just seeing the culmination of 30 years of people taking up the sport.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 9:01:24 PM | I'm 25 and I love my motorcycle. Aria and I are soulmates, dammit.
We travel at speeds that - should mistakes be made - will surely result in decapitation, dismemberment, mutilation; death.
Riding brings us closer to our mortality; lets us confront the fleeting and ephemeral nature of our existence -- something no Lamborghini can do.
Most riders aren't able to vocalize this, but the second you're riding 80mph / 130kmh solo on the highway with cars zipping around you -- you'll understand.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 10:05:18 PM | Riding a Harley makes you part of an 'elite' group?
That's the funniest thing I've ever read. Harley sells an image that the new wave of biker just can't wait to buy into. And what that image is modeled after is anything but elitist - it's actually anti-elitist.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/18/2009 10:35:30 PM | Pretty simple actually. She loves to be ridden hard and never turns me down or complains about trivial stuff. Of course it also doesn't hurt that she's a Beauty and gets 50+ MPG. What's NOT to love?
As far as the female equivalent? If push came to shove, I would have to say women with 8 "head only" shots in their profiles or several cleavage shots neither of which do much for me personally. The 8 [head only] shots strongly suggest to me "I am heavier than I would like to be". Just one man's opinion.

..See now, for entertainmnet purposes, I would have said..."and the men who ride them"
Hmmm...I must have lead a very sheltered life cause I've yet to ride on the back of a motorcycle....*must add to bucket list*

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/19/2009 5:30:49 AM | Maeflowers, my friend, you truly haven't experienced freedom and exhilaration until you have felt the wind in your hair while riding a powerful bike. And, truthfully, the scenery around you seems to come to life in a totally different way than when you are in a car.
Next time someone offers to take you for a cruise on their bike, lol....go for it. You won't regret it!!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/19/2009 6:25:55 AM | The wind, the freedom, the open road, the challenge of the course, the financial freedom once the kids are grown and gone ... what's not to luv.
I'd much prefer a man who enjoys riding and tinkering with his bike (fine tuning, shining/buffing it, adjusting the engine) than one doing those things with another woman - don't ya think. I don't do 'ménage à trois' very well.
I remember when my son was into stock car racing, every race night there would be guys damaging/crashing their cars. Their partners knew what those boys would be up to on the weekend.
Unless your back/kidneys can't handle it ... have fun, enjoy the ride(s).

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/19/2009 8:01:17 AM | Motorbikes have never done a thing for me, but after living in both Australia and the USA, its definitely an AMERICAN thing.... best portrayed in the movie Wild Hogs.
I dont like the seat restraints on a motorbike, I dont like the airbags on a motorbike, I dont like the crash protection on a motorbike and I dont like the mentality, in particular where I live in Pennsylvania USA where they believe its your God given right NOT to wear a helmet on a motorbike doing 100 mph! What happened to the God given right to Emergency workers to NOT be scraping up some bike riders brains off the Interstate?
Then again, its a 'I'm still young and virile... look at me' scenario for mid aged motorbike riders in the US.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/19/2009 8:32:27 AM | Many of the men I know who have purchased bikes in their 40s had one when they were younger then gave it up when the family came along. They always wanted one and now can afford it and have the time to enjoy it. With spring in the air the Harley dealerships will be busy.More power to 'em I say. I think it's great they have something they are passionate about and enjoy. The bonus is I can enjoy it with them. Nothing like getting on the bike in the spring or summer for a back roads tour to nowhere.
I always own a Mustang, I have loads of shoes, I spend more money on camera equipment than most men spend on their bikes. So I guess you could say I have several equivalents.
Just an added note, riding without a helmet in Pennsylvania was one of the reasons I loved the Keystone State so much.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/20/2009 12:56:45 AM | OP: About 70% of the women's profiles I check out list motorcycles. So it's not just a guy thing.
I don't ride a motorcycle and have no intention of doing so - have a brother who was hit twice riding, and he's a professional trucker and a much better driver than I am. I would drive a car along with a motorcycle caravan.
