Some people sit around watching soap operas, while some of us prefer some freedom, fresh air, and sightseeing. And what's wrong with riding a motorized vehicle that gets over 50 mpg and being proud of what you ride? Would the same question arise if there were farmers standing near or sitting on their tractores and/or combines? "Why are over 45 male farmers in love with their tractors?" Sheesh! | |

Posted: 10/3/2009 12:11:46 PM | I've ridden most of my life since my teens. Yea, during the family years I backed off and didn't ride in lieu of the greater priorities of family and responsibility. IT doesnt men that I've ever lost interest in riding. Prt of the love is the thrill, the freedom, the wind in your hair. Another part is the practicality of it. 40 mpg on my wing, is a darn sight more fun than 10 mpg in my truck, cheaper also!
To me a bike is a machine yea, but it becomes a reflection on ones self. A statement like, am I average, a rebel, or do I just plain walk a different path than most.
So yea, Im proud I ride. Always have been.
And if I had to have a tractor, it'd have be 37 John Deer B, but thats a topic for a different thread. | |

People underestimate it's qualities as a hardy machine but being that it was made in Nernburg Germany with the finist detail to quality and workmanship you can see why it is a very sought after bike yet today. Very rare and hard to find. It has very sexy Europian lines with an almost motorcycle look to it. Even the name SACHS sounds a bit like SEXXXXX. So truely I must be riding the right machine for the the person I am............... | |

my opinion if theyve been bikers all their life thats cool!!!! But to never ride a bike their whole life then turn 45 buy a brand new bike and play the biker stud is a freakin' joke....Come On now be honest ,interesting and exciting men dont need a bike to allure the women.If you notice the majority have sportsters, and where I come from the sportster is referred to as the "**** BIKE".I'm glad someone else noticed that, I thought I was losing it.People can do what ever the heck they want, but the

I myself have been riding my own bike or behind a guy for 40 years and have never "dumped it" Luck I guess. But I have rolled 3 vans and a car from bad road conditions and have had numerous broken bones and concussions from my car accidents. I guess if I get in an accident on my bike I'll be dead and not a vegetable in a nursing home or in a wheel chair like some guys I know that were in bad car accidents.

You would be incorrect in your assumption.
Traditionally, a hog, referred to the bigger bikes with the hard saddle cases, typically the old 45s.

I'm so glad you don't stereotype people or try to fit men into your little pigeon hole boxes. How did you become such an authority on open minded discussions. Where I come from and and the people i ride with ride just about even bike you can imagine. BMW, Honda, Harley, Moto Guzzie, Triumph, From very large displacment Bikes down to 600 cc machines If it can be ridden on the Hwy they are welcome to join in the ride. There are 40 year veteran riders to those in their 50's on their first bike. We have kids in their 20's and one guy close to 70 on a Goldwing. They range from Retired CEOs to Ski Bums. All enjoying the company of others with a common interest. | |

They have a wonderful time. It doesn't bother me if a man love motorcyles...that his hobby. Why not... whatever makes him happy. Why do women complain...most of us women like our shoes or shopping so why can't men like their motorcycles?
Men who ride motorcyles usually like rock and roll music and adventure and that's par of the course....they like to be free on the road, and I like adventure so what the heck. Jonie 09 | |

Posted: 10/4/2009 10:03:29 PM | I don't think it has anything to do with age or sex - I think the word "love" is the most important one. I don't 'love' my motorcycle but I do love riding - and on the rare occasions I've been involved with a man who doesn't ride, it means giving up something I love or having him sulk all spring/summer and most of fall. There's a difference between a hobby, a passion and a lifestyle and you get riders that fall into all three categories - and nothing wrong with that. But especially for more mature daters, I think having interests in common is a huge factor. I'm not looking to build a life with someone, my life is already built - I'm looking for somebody who can fit into it and understand the reverse applies. So I don't think it odd at all that a guy posting on here who loves to ride hopes to find someone who will share that with him, as well as other mutual interests in their life.
But then I ride a litre sport bike - so I'm definitely prejudiced in my opinion. | |

A man with a modicum of self esteem would look you in the eye and say, "I didn't buy the bike for you, sweetheart!" And, if he's got more brains than sand in his head, he'd see your judgmental attitude and ride away as fast as possible.

Posted: 10/5/2009 5:32:02 PM | Actually as a non-rider I have been surprised at how many women's profiles I've read that indicate they like to ride and are hoping to find a man who enjoys it as well (some ride their own bike while some like to be on the back). Then I get to wondering if they would be interested in a non-rider.
Personally I like the two wheeled cycles w/o engines. I like to be the engine. Why should the bike have all the fun?
Just do me one favor. If you ride a Harley *please don't change out the muffler so it becomes bone clatteringly loud!*. I know that is the "in" thing to do with Harley's and the riders seem to love it but try sitting on a bicycle at a light next to one or more Harley's and have to listen to them as they accelerate away from the light. I have literally had my left ear ring for 20 minutes afterwards. It really hurts. I wish they would put some limit on how loud those things can be. | |

Why are men...in love with motorcycles? Because unlike women:
1) We can ride them for years and they will never complain.
2) With very little maintenance they'll last for decades.
3) Even if we ignore them for months, they'll still be there for us when we finally get back to them.
4) They don't complain when we look at other bikes.
5) On a cold morning when you really need them, they WILL turn over for us.
Just a little friendly humor ladies. I've seen the "Men are like..." calendars too.  | |

Plus, divorced guys don't have to hear "You're going to kill yourself, NO you can't have one" From the wife. ;-) or "Think of your kids. What will they do without a Father". Well, the kids are grown now. They will deal with it.
Life is sweet being single after 45. We do what we want and when we want now.
Well, that about wraps it up, pure and simple.

Also sometimes in our later years it is a way to step out and reclaim a freedom and enjoy. It may not be for everyone, but let me say, as long as it is with a safe driver I wouldnt turn down a nice cruise, no crotchrockets though! | |
