| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 7/11/2009 9:12:01 PM | | No more missing than any personal interpretation other than are religious. Some christians read of mercy and forgiveness and others read of wrath. I suppose the same happens in Islam and Judaism or any other religion. | |

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 7/16/2009 1:48:54 PM | I was raised a Baptist but after my experience in Vietnam, I decided not to declare any religion. When people ask, I say I'm 'spiritual, not religious'. In other words, I do believe in a high being and sometimes pray, but I cannot belong to any particular religion. It's a personal thing for me. I don't care what God people declare. I'm more concerned about how they live their life. How they treat others. Do they respect others opinions. Are they true to themselves. I think too many people are more concerned about what God a person prays to than how they treat others. I've seen fights start because of religious beliefs. Wars have started because of religious beliefs. I have many friends who belong to various religions. We all respect each others beliefs. There's no need for us to discuss what God we pray to....because we all love each other and respect each others beliefs. I wish the rest of the world were like this. Just my opinion. | |

Tim Staples spoke saying that Islam had a dignified cosmic, distant God, with no sort of moral conscientious teaching Dignified yet no morals? Please explain.
Wars have started because of religious beliefs. Religions have been hijacked in order to start wars for the profiteers of war. It's an easy emotional base to coerce people that other people (and their religion) is evil. Other than that, I whole heartily agree with you, and lead my life in a similar fashion.

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 7/17/2009 8:45:04 AM | | Yes they all pray to the same, dysfunctional, God. You can tell that it's the same god because they appear to mostly say the same thing, "you're going to hell (or oblivion or something more negative than where they themselves are going) because you worship differently than I do." | |

In His cosmic position he had a kind of dignity. Tim Staples sells his talks.
Although it is not all condemnation, we all are looking for eternal life.
Believe Jesus, or believe in Jesus, or look to him as only a prophet, yes it does effect salvation, which is by Jesus grace, you can only receive by faith. It matters who you believe he is?

As opposed to the Xtian god....who is near enough to observe a caravan being attacked and the women raped....but choses not to intervene??? I am not certain that divine neglect is any more morally superior than capriciously compounding evil.
Tim Staples sells his talks.
You have that right.....whether he has not taken vows of poverty as one would if they were in holy orders is unclear...as is how much goes to him...and how much goes to the church.
...Fees: Costs include an honorarium for the first talk (plus 15 minute Q&A session) of $1250 plus travel expenses. The honorarium for each additional talk given that day is $800...

El or Ellah has the same meaning as Allah. The words found in the Bible, Eloi, Elohim and Hallelujah, are related to the word Allahu.
Majority of humankind including all the religious authorities, who took the religious scriptures literally & could not go further beyond analogies, do believe in a “god.” They defend “that god” & endeavor to overrule people in the name of “that god!”
The intellectuals and the people of reasoning do not believe in such a god, as they have conceived that there could not be such a thing. Therefore they do not give heed to the words of religious authorities who have been misleading humanity.

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 9/20/2009 1:40:55 AM | Historically, literally I have heard and learned that Judaic, Islamic and Christian God is of Abraham.... The same one monotheistic god. IMO therefore if people are of a religious nature of the abrahamic faiths technically they are all worshipsing the same god. I personally feel that the beliefs of the religions themselves are clashing not the Gods. The rock on which monothesim was built was abram and his covenant with the god to build a multitude of peoples so numerous they would number the stars. The promise of the old covenant was the coming of the new covenant. The I am of the desert...is in itself the stumbling block... creating sepration amongst the offspring Jer 6:21 Peter 1 2:8 Romans 9:32 The Koran The Throngs 39:42 through 39:48 (offers the same message as the bible and the revealtion)
The Kabblah:: The light the ultimate giver of life warmth and happiness(Karen Berg)( same theme as the bible...

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 9/23/2009 1:39:34 AM | The God of Abraham surely is the God that is at the beginnings of all three faiths but as man usually does they diverge at some point. Clearly, the incarnation of God in Jesus is one of those points. When Mohammad walked the earth he highly respected both Jews and Christians because of their Abrahamic roots. Jesus was even elevated to the level of Major Prophet along with other Hebrews as King David.
Social, ethnic, racial, political stuff, along with power and wealth soon drove deep wedges between people groups as time marched on. It will get worst before it gets better, but it will get better, for sure.

Q: Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God?
A: No. This is really simple. Because there is no god or gods, what Jews, Christians and Muslims pray to is not real to begin with, it is just a man made idea.
Thanks for clearing that up.

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 9/29/2009 5:10:48 AM | That's true 'god' doesn't exist!
Did we understand what is referred to as Allah, Ilah or Elohim, YHVA...
Is it 'out there'? or within our own 'essence' who formed our own reality?
Yes! God is non-existent! Nonsense is any concept of a god!..nothing but a verb!
Quote: "I was talking to a Buddhist friend last night about Catholicism, and he was talking about his views on the Christian God. In his mind, God is a powerful force, but one which is essentially still an other power, and therefore ultimately limited. On the other hand, in Buddhism, sunyata or emptiness, the Buddhist vision of reality, transcends all dualistic notions of self and other. Therefore, the notion of a God being somehow outside of ourselves, or something/someone to worship no longer makes sense within this Buddhist framework, because there is nothing to worship and no one to 'do' the worshiping."
Buddhist friend was so right!
Islam, Zen, Buddhism doesn't accept the existence of god or gods.
And i have to mention, "praying is not worshipping" but activating certain brainwaves, stimulating endorphins. Parallel laboratory findings which described that the repetitions of nouns in the brain, increases neural activity while engaging new areas and neural groups in the brain, were published first time in 1993 in an article in December 1993 issue of the “Scientific American.”
If praying is not for expecting something from a god-out-there, then what is it? Do we understand The "I AM" Sayings of Jesus???
in essence.... | |

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 10/19/2009 3:35:44 AM | (Response to message 11)
Message 11 says: "My 12 year old can make videos from her cell phone. She can do this by pushing one botton. People make cell phone videos when being shot at and during wars all the time. Me I would be much more worried about working my cell phone video when bombs were going off all around me then having the creator of everything in my livingroom. Is it hard to believe someone would take one of the "Big Guy" if he real did show up in their livingroom. What is hard to believe is that people would not want to get a pic with the "Big Guy" if he was real. There are security cameras all over the place now. Why would they not get a pic of him if he was real. Picture this... God appears before you and you have your cell phone in your hand with a video recorder on it would you hit one thing to get video evidance. Most people would. So why is there none? You pick crazy or making it up or both. Question things, some one would get a video if this really was happening, but it is not happening for real. Again the idea of mainifestations is not limited to one god, people from all different beliefs claim these things. What do they all have linking them. You pick but what it is not is real."
Firstly, in response to the OP, I would say any religion that is based from the Old Testament is in general worshipping the same and only God. How we do so differs after that.
And secondly, to freetime2bme, you are not alone in thinking the way you do. In fact, your thinking isn't too different than the many Christians who question their faith from time to time, because they can't see God or touch God in a tangible way, as we know it. And today, in our society if we can't see it or touch it, it is somewhat of a challenge to believe in something. That is where faith comes into play.
From the standpoint of God in the Bible, it is said that the face of God is so bright that it would blind a person, if they were able to be in His presense. So, that would not allow for much of a picture. Also, from the Christian perspective, when Jesus walked the earth, he was God in human form. But, unfortunately there were no cameras back then.
I'm not a scholar of world religions, however I have a feeling the Chrisitians, Jewish and Muslims would likely agree that you do not need to see God physically to believe in Him. It would be nice and we might prefer it, however it may not be on the top of God's list of needs. By the way, there are many things we can't see that are real, such as the waves from televison, radio and many other things. So, I wouldn't count God out too easily. He is much more sophisticated than our technology.
|
| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 10/19/2009 5:15:31 AM | Context is important.
"God is real. I have had him send messages to me on several occasions and met many people who have had The lord himself speak to them as well as manifest . "
This is from the message that started this video idea up, but the follow on posts are all important in this thread to get the context of my post. The poster said he gets messages from god and he knows people who have seen him lol. He did not say they were now blind do to their seeing him also. So the photo/video idea!!!
"He [god] is much more sophisticated than our technology. " No god is not real, so sad you can not look at the facts on this, but you do have your blind faith. The "that is where faith come into play" is most ever used cop out ever, it could be used by any one to justify a belief in anything . I could use it to justify a belief is the old flying spaghetti monster, just as easy as you do it to justify your belief in god and it would be just as valid an argument. How valid is that agument lol? Not valid at all if you ask me.
|
| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 10/19/2009 2:25:45 PM | I also want to make two things clear....
1 - "He [god] is much more sophisticated than our technology. "
There is a significant error that is in the English translations of religious publications. The pronoun “HE” in English denotes a male human being of any age.
How correct can the truth be approached if the “Creator” is understood as a god with a sex while it is intended to mean the “point of ONENESS of universal dimensions?”
How can an understanding of a “male/father god” recognized as the concrete behind the abstract, match with what is in reality free even from the descriptions based on the attributions of limitlessness and infinity?
On the other hand the word “HU” in Arabic denotes a “dimensional-beyond” in a sense without quantity and quality! Which was also (Sadly) translated as “He” into English.
2 - "The lord himself speak to them as well as manifest."
But we are already manifestations of "THE ONE". As Jesus mentioned - "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you."
Not out there!
We ARE - Manifestations of "One Consciousness"
not of a Father-God "out there"

El or Ellah has the same meaning as Allah. The words found in the Bible, Eloi, Elohim and Hallelujah, are related to the word Allahu. Those names of G-d do have similarities. It's true the English word doesn't appear in the original text of the Bible, or the Koran, as neither were written in English. But this forum is. So we have to give some leeway that when people use the word G-d, they might also be considering what the word or words for G-d might be in other languages and other texts. So we can either be a perfectionist, and just point out that since the Private Language Problem points out that no-one shares exactly the same understanding of words, that you can never understand the question in the same way as anyone else, and hence never be able to answer it for anyone else, or you can not be a perfectionist, and then just accept that the words used here have a certain necessary leeway.
This presupposes that people of reason and intellect are all atheists, and people who not atheists, all take religious scriptures literally, and cannot go beyond analogies.
However, Catholics and Jews don't take the Bible completely literally. Newton and Leibniz came up with Calculus and both believed in G-d. So then Calculus would have come from men who lacked reason and intellect and would be tosh. Newton came up with Gravity and the 3 Laws of Motion and believed in G-d. So then Gravity and the 3 Laws of Motion would both have come from men who lacked reason and intellect and both would be tosh. Many highly expert doctors believe in G-d. So then there would be many highly expert doctors who are not men of reason or intellect, and then there would be no requirement to be a person of reason or intellect to become a doctor, even a highly expert one, and there would be no reason to suppose that you could trust any doctor to make a reasoned diagnosis. This reasons alone would be enough to completely discount the above claims.

"Those names of G-d do have similarities. It's true the English word doesn't appear in the original text of the Bible, or the Koran, as neither were written in English. But this forum is." -I couldnt find nothing to say to this.Perfectly done!, Right on time..Modifications of teachings is nothing new, "I know its like that, but this is how we do around here" attitude brought us here today...."If there is no God to worsip we shall create one"..lol...Pagan?
Lets do some histroy, The term "God" and "Son of God" injected into Christianity after 400 years. This is no secret, early Christians, Jews, Orthodox and of course Islam used "Allah" when they talk about the Creator. Materialism was rising, people need to be controlled, god meant money...Way showers were hated (peace be upon all of them)because they knew there's nothing to worship up there. They called them mad, fraud. They have done everything to create conflicts between religions, they erase everything related to Oneness which is our ultimate reality.
People spent lifes worshipping but not seeing the ultimate force within them. The unity of creator was forgotten...
In Isaiah 45:5, we read. "I’m the Lord, and there is none else, "there is no God only me" In Quran, we read. "La ilahe illaallah" - "There is no god, only Allah" Similar concepts could be find in Zen, Buddhism and Kaballah.
The word “god” is a common adjective, it cant be used as a proper noun for the Unique Essence , out of Whose there is nothing independent in existence. And that is not a matter of mere languages or word pronunciation. There is an enormous difference in the meaning.
in addition; Some other scientists who admit that the universe is created by a Creator... did they believe in that Father-God or Universal Creator Force who is very conscious? We will never be able to know that, after al its all in essence:
Robert Boyle (the father of modern chemistry) Iona William Petty (known for his studies on statistics and modern economy) Michael Faraday (one of the greatest physicists of all times) Gregory Mendel (the father of genetics; he invalidated Darwinism with his discoveries in the science of genetics) Louis Pasteur (the greatest name in bacteriology; he declared war on Darwinism) John Dalton (the father of atomic theory) Blaise Pascal (one of the most important mathematicians) John Ray (the most important name in British natural history) Nicolaus Steno (a famous stratiographer who investigated earth layers) Carolus Linnaeus (the father of biological classification) Georges Cuvier (the founder of comparative anatomy) Matthew Maury (the founder of oceanography) Thomas Anderson (one the pioneers in the field of organic chemistry)

Won't help. Unless the religion you invented is in English, then people seem to think so shallowly today, that they'll misunderstand it. But then, even if it's in English, a Frenchman will misunderstand it. That's why you just cannot be picky about any book, unless you are reading it in the original language, and are bypassing the problems of translation, which is something I make a point of doing.
Lets do some histroy, The term "God" and "Son of God" injected into Christianity after 400 years. This is no secret, early Christians, Jews, Orthodox and of course Islam used "Allah" when they talk about the Creator. Again, that's because YOU guys don't speak semitic languages, like me and mine do. The minute religion crossed into Europe, they had to use a name for G-d. English is largely derived from German, so English borrowed from German for the word.
The rest is pure fiction.
The word “god” is a common adjective, An adjective is a word that describes a noun, not a noun itself. Divine is an adjective, as in "divine being". Red is an adjective, as in "red fence". But words that are adjectives, can only be joined to nouns. It's just not feasible to use them as nouns in their own right, as the word "god" is.
in addition; Some other scientists who admit that the universe is created by a Creator... did they believe in that Father-God or Universal Creator Force who is very conscious? AFAIK, when people talk about a Creator, they're talking about some idea of G-d or gods. So what, you want to rewrite what people mean, without any proof that they even meant anything different than the norm?
Kinda making my point here, with all these scientists, about not being able to claim that intelligent people of reason are all atheists.
|
| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 11/1/2009 12:25:14 AM | | would intelligent people not be of reason??? could they be spiritual? could non intelligent people be of reason and be atheist? all humans are little scientist regardless of how unreasonable their theories seem to be. A hypothesis does not have to be reasonable and factual just disprovable to be scientific remember when the world was flat..... WE all come up with theories that comfort us that nurture our ideals whatever suits our societal and cultural beliefs it doesn't mean we are unreasonable and unintelligent. Each of these religions has been nurtured and created in its own culture and society within the Abrahamic tradition. In today 's society we have a choice whether or not to believe in an Abrahamic god or any deity. However an unreasonable and unintelligent person in the middle ages would have been a scientific atheist because one would have been burned at the stake as a heretic if he or she didn't believe. Very unreasonable and unintelligent....but now scientific and atheistic beliefs are copacetic. | |

| Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God? Posted: 11/1/2009 2:54:22 AM | If you asked either Jesus or Mohammed, they'd say it's the same god.
Is anyone here really able to contradict them?
Sure, individual worshipers (and some of their "communities") will quibble--obviously we have had pretty violent evidence of this. But both Jesus (whether he's the son of God or God himself or one part of a trinity of God-ness or NOT ) and Mohammed (whether he's the seal of the prophets or NOT) worshiped the creator god, Yahweh, of the Torah.
Again, can anyone here really presume to say that those two guys were wrong...about the focus of the religions that THEY founded?
