For a few examples, "I'm really shy, but I'm also really outgoing", "I don't like staying in, but sometimes I don't like going out either", "I love the outdoors....I hate bugs".
I understand that people like to be contacted from everyone, including both the people that want to go out as well as the people that want to stay in, but it doesn't give much insight into a person to include both in a description.

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 6/26/2008 11:45:36 PM | bradwt, about the cliches yes, I even give a very short rant about people who post "don't want someone who's into head games" ... well again, DUUUH ...who does. Please, please, people do NOT put this in your profile, as it just signals that you haven't resolved your issues with a) people you've met on this site, b) your past relationships, c)your present relationships d) most people...
Happy fishing! Kathryn
|

C) 'Prefer not to say' to smoking, have kids, or drugs...
D) One-liners from women... When they complain about men doing it.
E) *girl sees message received, looks at main profile pic, ^delete message without reading^*
A) You're on a DATING website, idiot!
B) K thx byez wont miss youz
C) The answer is pretty obvious...
D) Pot calling the kettle black?
E) Wow, some girl and their egos... Maybe I'll meet a nice attractive blind girl and not notice the pic *ponders the idea*

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 6/27/2008 2:34:18 PM | This is a really Great site and hopefully one day I will meet HER. I was on another dating site a while back, and my Pet peeve list would of been very long. My only complaint on here is when a woman asks me 20 questions in her original (1st)message. I answer them fully/honestly.
Her reply back to ME is ONE WORD ! ? "cool" or I.C...etc. Then they wonder why I don't keep in touch ?
Other than this... I luv this site (met a lot of Great friends) In fact now my search is just for friends.

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 6/29/2008 4:35:57 PM | People complaining that the opposite sex is not interested in fat people, usually those people are looking for skinny people themselves.
I'm not kidding, seen this in several profiles.

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 6/30/2008 10:42:18 PM | I can speak for volumes for guys. I'm assuming it's happening to gentler ladies as well, interesting... Me and a few friends nicknamed it the POF-pic-reject-ritual. | |
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/1/2008 2:11:40 PM | People who read your profile, see you are serious about this but send you smutty disgusting emails anyway? I will never get that. My profile in no way says I want that kind of contact and I am sure if they wanted to they could find exactly that somewhere else. So far that is it. Only been here a week so time will tell if there are any more pet peeves for me. | |
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/1/2008 8:58:35 PM | Contradictions in profiles, i.e. Body Type" Average, when the pictures clearly show BBW
People who respond to your profile that have obviously not read yours
Prefer Not to Say in key areas, like do you smoke or have children.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/15/2008 5:39:40 AM | I'm just wondering, is putting that you have children in your profile such a big deal? I mean I didn't put the ages of my children in my profile but I did put that I had kids, I think it's an important fact that really can effect if someone wants to message you or not.
Anyway it's listed a few times as a pet peeve, so I'm just curious.
I'd have to say my pet peeve is when when people don't even message you back to say not interested. I think that would be the decent thing to do.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/15/2008 8:42:57 AM | Allow me to clarify.
It's not whether you have children or not, it's if you select 'prefer not to say'... It's just one of those who don't have a darn choice about being honest, yet some people will still hesitate.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/15/2008 2:12:23 PM | Photo's with more than one person and not say who they are.
Profiles with no photos what so ever, and then they compain no ones intrested in them. I'm expected to put a pic up lol
Profiles that say Employment n/a and there looking for a guy with a car..money..cash and prizes. There are other sites out there for that
"send me a message and i'll respond" then send message - read, deleted and no reply
People with very little information about themself
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 7/15/2008 3:35:25 PM | from custmirz "also, people who go on this DATING SITE but are not single/not looking"
yep, always gets me why non single people continue to haunt this place, use facebook for your friends instead lol also couples who go to POF events to socialize , which is why I lost interest in going to them, after a few,

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/10/2008 6:59:31 PM | | I would have to say....taking pictures of themselves in the mirror. I mean at least they have posted a pic...but for some reason it drives me nuts! I also am getting sick of every guys interests being.."The Gym" and then they repeat over and over again how much they work out and how all their spare time is at the gym. I appreciate a man who takes good care of themselves, don't get me wrong and the men that say this are usually very handsome, but I would really want to know more about you other then how much weight you can bench press. :) | |
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/11/2008 3:15:25 PM | I agree with coyote009... people taking pictures of themselves in the mirror. Especially when guys do it without their shirts. nononononono
ALSO -a slew of spelling mistakes -cliche after cliche.. I dont mind when people have little or nothing on their profiles, as long as they write an interesting/engaging message.

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/11/2008 6:36:37 PM | Pet Peeve in Profiles???? Oh my, where to begin with all this! Let's start with the number of times I see "your" when it should be "you're"... e.g. "If YOUR looking for such and such.... " ( remember our lessons in "contractions" back in the primary grades? I DO! But then, I am in my 50's, so I was a kid when they actually TAUGHT this stuff in school, back in the 1960's...) This drives me to distraction. Speaking of "to".... SO MANY people do NOT know the difference between "to" and "too"...... e.g " I am spending to much time here"... This should be "TOO much time"...... Get with the program, already!
How about all the people that state their age but CLAIM, they "look so much younger" than they are????? Oh my God! If I only had a "toonie" for every time I read this! I could buy a new winter coat! Well now, that is wonderful IF you happen to think so, but DON'T tell the rest of us about it, darlin"! After all, what you think about yourself and have the audacity to write about in your profile, doesn't matter, one iota! It's irrelevant! This is the sort of thing that IS in the "eye of the beholder", when all is said and done.
Now, onto this "soulmate" thing..... That phrase, word, or whatever you want to call it, is so "1980's"! Like "big hair" and shoulder pads in clothing! Who the heck says THIS anymore???? Get some new material. Consult your Roget's Thesauras, and find something synonymous with this outdated word....
And, finally (ya, I AM wrapping it up), the number of times I have read "I LOVE to laugh..." or how about "Family and friends are very important to me..." NO KIDDING! REALLY???? Well guess what, sweet cheeks, we ALL love to laugh! And we ALL hold family and friends in the highest regard, too! ( or is that to? I happen to know it is TOO!) Enough said on this subject.... I think you ALL get my point! Thanks for letting me "vent"!!!!! I'll just be you're ALL "proof reading" your profiles, now.....(or is that YOUR....) Trust me, it's "you're"....
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/11/2008 8:47:51 PM | I get a good laugh out of the profiles that ask for "no baggage" and then say they love to travel.
But seriously. As a man I find it difficult to comprehend how a woman can have a profile where the answer to "do you want children" is "prefer not to say". I also dont quite get the "not single not looking" with a first date of a dinner at a nice restaurant. Another one is the comment that they "want a serious relationship starting as friends" and when you message the reply is "we are not compatible". My friends are not all love interests either.
But best of all is my favourite. "married and looking for a discreet encounter with a married man" MUST BE VERY HONEST. Figure that one out if you can.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/12/2008 3:02:49 AM | I love the comments above me, here! How about the "prefer not to say" response for are you a smoker, or "relationship status"? Hmmmm, ya, well I am a "non smoker", but "shhhh" don't tell anyone.... Guess what? I think we can all "connect the dots" when reading "prefer not to say", as the response to several questions..... And, I don't get this "not single/not looking" thing, either. What's up with that?
One thing that I have experienced numerous times, is "deceptive photos". Old, outdated, and sometimes, "grainy" photos... Or those that are so distant, you cannot distinguish facial features. How about someone posting a photo wearing sunglasses? Incognito are we? Come on now, people! We are living in the age of sophisticated/digital technology. I make a point of taking NEW photos, regularly, and subsequently posting one or two. I put effort into keeping my photos current and up to date. Plus, ensuring I have a couple of close up pictures that clearly shows my face, too, without my sunglasses on!. Not to mention smiling to prove I DO have all my own teeth. I also include some "full body photos" to illustrate that I don't weigh 200 lbs. Once again, if I had a toonie for everytime I have been disappointed or "shocked" upon meeting someone in person, (based on their photos), I could buy a lovely scarf and gloves to go with that new winter coat!

| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/12/2008 11:55:55 AM | I always love the profiles where they go on and on about people and their lack of politeness, and how rude everyone is, by never replying 'thanks for the message' to their emails.
Yet when you send them one, they don't answer back... smirks...
Those are the profiles I stay far away from.. I'm not fond of hypocrites.
I'm enjoying my own company more and more... lol
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/12/2008 12:10:11 PM | If you don't write to them and have them not reply back, how do you know they're hypocrites?
As for non-response, I'm always at a loss for how to say "Not interested" without being harsh or sounding like I think I'm too good for them. To twist an old saying, better to be silent and thought a jerk than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/15/2008 9:27:49 PM | People who list their body type as average or athletic and are in fact overweight. Thin means you are at or under the ideal weight for your height, average means you are slightly above your ideal weight for your height and athletic means you frequently work out and are not chubby or are losing weight quickly. I am athletic, I workout about 4 times a week and would say right now my weight is average, at 5'11 I am 200 pounds and ideal is about 190, I was 225 at one point.
Others that I hate:
"Black guys only" - wtf, are some white people racist towards people of their own skin colour? This mainly comes from white women though, I think it might be the misconception that all black dudes have huge wangs.
"Ask and find out" - as someone else posted, you send a message and they read it and don't respond.
|
| What is your #1 Pet Peeve in Profiles Posted: 10/16/2008 6:16:34 AM | I have several pet peeves but my top two are: 1. Prefer not to say (esp when it is under the single/sep/divorced category..that usually leads me to beleive they are married) 2. No picture but they expect you to have a picture when you contact them...LMAO and
