MSG 24...Imo if i woman deliberately puts cleavage and trout pout pics on their profile i tend to think they are looking for validation that they are attractive to the opposite sex regardless of whether they're single or not.Attracting attention whatever it takes.C0ck tease is the term i think.Surely their faces should do the trick...

Of course loads of guys will look but many will think the woman looks cheap and slutty and if she's got it all on show then why would he want her seeing as she's shown it all off to every guy that she's happy to flaunt it all to. The open mouth pout is the funniest thing, all gormless and bimbo looking

Loads of women have big boobs but they don't all have pics with it all on show.

We all do it, whether you know you are doing it or not, and sometimes its the not knowing your doing it that is the better version.

I do get put off by untidy house pictures, more so by icky wall paper, carpets and sofas from the 70's, for me it just shows that they dont have the same tastes as me

This thread made me a bit para. I had to go look at my pics and check out the back grounds, never really gave it a thought before now. Not all the pics are taken in my house so how could I judge another person by the back ground in their's.

I must admit I do look at the surroundings, it's a little off putting if there is mess everywhere.

Well if a bloke looked good sounded nice and fancied the pants off me I wouldnt give a toss. I wouldnt throw it all away because he had an untidy house or bad decs. That can soon be put right.

I had a date from here about 4 years ago and she looked nice on her photo but never smiled. Good grief! I soon saw why, her teeth looked like a row of condemned houses. I felt absolutely conned on a free site!

Of course they are its a dating site the idea is to make yourself as attractive to the opposite sex as possible i am sure they won't be worried about your condemnation.

It’s a fine line as the point is to attract enough attention to have a large pool of people to choose from. Now sensible pics will have fewer mails it’s a fact. Then there is the argument of the type of attention and the type of person who will respond to that kinda pic. One can say that having 5 mails a month from men who are not attracted by the pic but who are looking at the profile more is a good thing. Then you have to narrow down those people as to who you find attractive. So then out of those 5 maybe you don’t like any.

So if you get over 200 mails a month from men who were attracted by the pic then you have a much larger pool to choose from. Granted that you have to weed out the ones who just want a tit wank or want more pics so that leaves you still with a sizeable pool to choose from for dates.

Ladies here with sensible pics and with sexy pics all get the abusive perverted mails it’s not just one or the other.

Then there is the context of the picture, is it appropriate for the setting? A bikini on a beach maybe considered acceptable where as a woman walking down the high street in one is not.

If the approach was not working then it would be time to reassess the strategy. However if it was working and there was a constant stream of nice dates and a nice social life stemming from it, then there would be no reason to change it.

Anyone who would be offended by the approach may be not someone who would be considered as a possible match for that person anyhow, so in that way also it is a filter.

Further anyone who said “ I don’t want to see women’s bits unless they invite me to touch them, and if they show them it's teasing me” would worry me greatly, as it is an argument often used in rape cases.

A good full face photo does not leave much space for background mess.

If the photo shows me more of the cleavage than the face then I pass it by.

I want to see the eyes. They tell me more about her than even her profile will do. In retrospect all that cleavage or leg will tell me the same, but in that situation no chance of me considering contact.

I intend an updated photo in 3 weeks time.

To answer the OP

Does anyone here look beyond the person in the pic and try to gauge how tidy or slovenly the person they're looking at is? or has anyone seen anything truly hideous or funny in a background?

The best picture that made me laugh was of a male forumite in a bra for breast cancer awareness month.

The ladies and gents from the forums a couple of years ago all joined in and uploaded some great pictures too.

The funniest was of a lady on a hen night with her friends who appeared to have two 'willies' popping out of her head

there's a boat in one of my pics, and it's mine ,and it's tidy as time allows.
I'm not OCD but I don't like ingrained muck, slovenly mess, or neglect, I know how much mess kids make having been a foster carer and kids of my own.
And I spent 2 days shovelling camel shi& to make one of my photo's acceptable.

guys with boats/cars/bikes as their main pic..........wot's that all about then? Sorry but that don't impress me much.

Yes a dirty/untidy background would put me off if it was taken in their own home....unwashed/unshaven/dirty hair also a big turn off ...as are flexing muscles and those pics with men holding huge fish......wtf???

I look at the background and if the lounge or kitchen looks cluttered i am put off..
same as a guys clothes if they are old fashioned it is off putting ..
I think a moody harsh picture and naked shots put me off to..

what someone writes in the forums makes me want to view them..just to see what they have wrote mainly but if its boring or sounds slutty i don't go past line 2 or 3

But seriously gents do you like it when middle aged women have their genoobs dangling out, is that what men are really looking for?

Men are very visualy orentated, women less so, so if a women has a great body, or nice legs, or boobs, or just apretty face, thats what they need to post to get a mans atention.

It may not seem right but men are drawn to what they like visually and if then they have a good personality not a ton of baggage etc it moves on further. You can overcome most problems in a reltionship, but you cant ovwercome not fancing them pyshicly.

Err no! I personally wouldnt want a middle aged woman anyway but if i did it would all depend on whether her face was like a kn@ckered bag of spanners and her teeth were like a row of tombstones and in that case then...NO!! and wtf would a self respecting woman show her t!ts to all and sundry anyway.

Besides that,i prefer a decent pair of legs

A friend of mine once said that a woman will take 100 pictures to get 1 photo she is happy putting on the site. A man will take 1 photo and that'll do.

I am put off by the background of photos, I suppose it gives us an insight into how that person lives or their tastes etc. There is someone on here who has a photo of himself in a bathroom, but not his own bathroom, it looks like a public toilet!

I'm also put off by men who pose next to their car or motorbikes, are holding fish or have only got photos which were obviously taken by themselves, particularly those who put up numerous photos of themselves taken one after the other from a webcam, to me that just tells me that that person has no friends or doesn't socialise.

Picky? Me? Never!!

I can't really say that I've consciously examined pictures to see what's in the background, mind you I wouldn't post a picture of myself with a heap of rubbish behind me. I doubt I'd judge someone's personality on their decor though. Unless it was really bad, or the inside of a prison cell or something ...

Yes, I do this. First, I notice how tidy or slovenly the person is in the picture. Unbelieveable what some men wear in their photos---sloppy, stained, unironed clothes, etc. If the photo is of his home and it looks a mess, it gives the impression to me he is a slob.
