| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 2:46:45 PM | Should be called "conception control" since men can't give birth, but yeah...
Maybe after it's been tested and around a few years, I'll trust it. Meanwhile...condoms. Can't go wrong with a good ol' vasectomy!

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 3:00:25 PM | I'd be game to freeze dry some baby franks first.
Then my belt would be off and wrapped around my arm to get to shoot that stuff as fast as possible.
It's the man's responsibility to carry protection..... and the womans to take the pill or whatever. that's such bull, women shouldn't be the only ones with the power to control when to have children. by missing a pill, or 17.

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 3:11:31 PM | ^ Slow down there, Frank. Sometimes these things have other side effects, like effects on the heart.
They're still finding new side effects for some of the CURRENT birth control methods. Just "freeze drying some baby Franks" might not be enough prep work to dive into stuff like this, even if it DOES ever get off the "experimental" list. (And they've been talking about this for more than a decade, 'cause I remember it from many years ago. If it's taking this long, I'm skeptical. I'm also skeptical that it'll be reversible long term, but mostly I'm skeptical as to how reliable it'll be.)

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 4:38:02 PM | OP... only if it had a really cool side effect like... making it taste like chocolate (for the women) or if it could be used in place of duct tape... otherwise I doubt I'd wonder much about it.

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 9:31:45 PM | "In Japan they invented a heated jock strap that would, comfortably lord knows, kill sperm. It didn't take."
In Japan they do not need this because all Japanese take a super hot bath before going to bed. Houses are not centrally heated and you definitely need it in the winter. However, the heat does affect fertility; and Japan has a declining population - check it.

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 11:14:20 PM | Where do I sign up!!!!
I don't trust the ladies fully with this... and 2 people on birth control are better than one.
I don't want babies. | |

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/6/2009 11:33:39 PM | | Sounds like a good option among other options to consider. It's always better to have more choices. | |

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 7:40:49 AM | I think it would be great if there were a low cost convenient way for men to ensure they weren't making unplanned babies. I have talked to men who have contemplated vasectomies b/c they are 100% sure they don't want more kids, but who are either scared to have it done or just aren't quite ready to take that final of a step *just in case* they change their minds.
A shot or pill that had a limited time of controlling conception (like 1-5 years) would be great for those men!
I can't imagine if my only choices were getting my tubes tied or condoms...that would freak me out. Condoms break....but tube tying is *so* final. birth control pills/shots/patches are so much better for short term conception prevention.
HOWEVER...I am just the sort who would have a hard time trusting a partner to be the one in charge of birth control. I'd still want to be on the pill unless we were trying to conceive.
Esp since, well, my cousin's last baby came from a guy who claimed to have had a vasectomy...when in reality he was trying to get her pregnant, to have a 10th baby to go with the other 9 from various women. (ok truly she was stupid to hav ebelieved him, but still...there are a lot of stupid women out there and a lot of azzhole men who lie)

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 7:55:04 AM | | If it were proven safe and effective and not manufactured in China, then not just Yes, but Hell, Yes! It's way past time that men had additional options. | |

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 1:42:45 PM | | I'm at the age where the majority of my partners are post menopausal anyway; but when I was younger, I used to wish there was such a pill/shot; so I would say I am absolutely in favor of it. | |

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 1:53:22 PM | Vegg4Life, you're an idiot about the reason male BC hasn't arrived yet. It's all about how much easier it is to trick women to stop dropping eggs (simulate hormonal concenctrations during pregnancy) than it is to trick a guys body to stop producing sperm. Please leave the histrionics out of a scientific topic kthnx.
I agree with the second part though; there's a reason my girls and I have a talk about what the plan is should the pill / rubber fail before I put my future in their....hands. I would be all over a male contraceptive, although lets be real with the increasing prevalence of STI's it's still no excuse to not use barrier protection!! I just like that I would be able to have some sort of control; it freaks me out how one slip up by someone else could cost me my future.

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 6:20:07 PM | | Also, I'd like to point out... can you imagine the number of morons that'd be running around going, "Naw, baby; it's ok... I'm on the shot!" | |

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/7/2009 10:04:14 PM | UMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...can we get this in dart form by chance?? I'd convert a paintball gun over to shoot out the darts and drive around the streets looking for people who OBVIOUSLY should never step close to a vag', let alone be allowed to deliver their seed to another...
COME ON!!
After I said that, you've probably thought of a handful of guys off the top of your head who'd you'd put clothes on, get in your car, drive to where they are, and shoot'm!
Truth, like a shotgun BANG, what's up with your thang-TruthinessInc

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/8/2009 7:29:21 AM | Hey that dart gun is a great idea!!!
I wonder if we could do that w/the shot for women now? I mean, seriously...there are peops out there who should just NOT be procreating!
LOL | |

Hey, Kaylie is right, but I wouldnt base it on looks. How about on the ability to pay for and care for the kid?? I wouldnt mind BC being a condition of receiving welfare - kinda makes sense to me...

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/8/2009 12:09:06 PM | Just had to post up, cuz ~rain~ started this thread. Ummm birth control for men ? Good concept, heard itz called "pulling out", lol. But that takes alot of trust and more than a lil self control.
And in da spirit of da ocassion, cant help but quote some song lyrics.
~rain~, iz what the thunder brings for the first time, I can hear my heart sing. Call me a fool, but I know im not, im gonna stand out here on da mountaintop, till I feel, your ~rain" etc."

| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 5/8/2009 2:35:53 PM | I suppose there would be more research and results if men were actually interested in controlling who BIRTHED THEIR babies! Since a man can be forced by law to support a child he did not choose to create (other than by providing the batter) I can't understand why men do not take this more seriously as a tool to protect themselves.
Women have the overwhelming responsibility of carrying the babies and then caring for them and guess what...? Them kids can just keep coming if there was no birth control. Women were more than thrilled to have alternatives to having babies year after year because not only do we like sex too, but well, men were walking away from the babies they made...and leaving us with nothing but bills and babes in hand...hence all the child support laws in effect these days.
Imagine a world where a man actually has a choice, besides abstinence, to become a father (or not)...???? There's a bit of power in that is there not?
|
| Birth Control for Men???? Posted: 7/29/2009 1:53:50 AM | | I cant understand why this doesnt exist yet. It takes 2 to make a baby. Both parties need to responsible for the consequences. Women need to protect their eggs. Men need to keep track of their swimmers a whole lot better. Dont blame the woman when you thought it was ok surrender to your boys. | |
