Braces on a 40 yr old?

I had braces on my upper teeth when I was turning 32 and never had any issues. If someone would make a joke about train tracks, I'd just agree and make a quip such as, "At least I'll be getting somewhere".

The only issue I had was the feeling of tightness on my teeth. Theses were the standard metal braces. Other than not eating foods such as apples or corn on the cob, I ate whatever I wanted.

The one thing you might have to watch for is you might talk slightly differently than normal due to your lips having to compensate for the extra mass on your teeth, but most people are too oblivious to notice the difference.

For the last few weeks (months?) of having them on, I wore the brightest fluorescent orange rubber rings I could find. Sort of like a badge of honor that this was the last time I'd be wearing them. I had some people tell me they didn't even know I wore braces until they saw the orange in my mouth.

As a final thought, I had relatives who had their entire family in braces at the same time. And they were in their late 30s, early 40s at that time (the parents that is). They would joke with people about having braces so late in life.

I have the clear ones, but got a bigger wire a couple of weeks ago. It turned my teeth sensitive for a few days but that was it. I can eat just about anything as long as I cut it up first. I just say its kind of like having glasses, some people need it fixed earlier and some dont need it til later. I wanted to go into older age in the best position I can healthwise, so getting that overbite fixed.

i got braces when i was 37, one of the best things ive ever done. when i first got them and every time i got them tightened, i talked with a lisp. im not sure why and i dont think it happens to everyone. that was the only social impact. i was a little self concious about it.

48 here, wearing braces.
People are full of questions, some taken aback.
But in my opinion it is well worth it.
Nice teeth are important, shallow as that sounds.
