| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/6/2009 1:54:25 AM | I had a listen to the Sgt Peppers album today.
it was good to actually hear those two separate voices on the lp... I thought the bass runs were interesting... and some of ringo's drumming...
and the songs are somehow ingrained into your memory... makes them good ,I suppose...

I never was a Bettle's Fan ~ but!
I was in Nam, back in 68 when I first heard Abby Road ~
I'd been living on a steady diet of "CCR" and "Canned HeaT"
They blew me away
The group ~ was gifted ~ very gifted in such an odd way.
The liberities they took with both music and word that was new and refreshing.
I considered Joe Walsh a musical monster but this group went well beyond.
They were the "little train that could"

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/7/2009 6:28:12 AM | What song would you sing if you were at a place with great acoustics? Who is the writer of your favorite cheer up song?
"Yesterday" for the acoustic quality
and for cheer up
Brook Benton's "Kiddo"
okay, ~ I'm an older dude ~ and heard lots of songs
and my voice is in the range of a cello or viola .

Wow! I was reading some of the post here, ~
lots of anal retention! ~
Bob Dyan is a monster, and covered about everything!
Music is that way ~ Guys ~ songs are stolen , borrowed , revived and shared.
Who make them popular is not always the original artist. Some are written for and give to one person in mind by another, as a gift.
Ever heard Judy Collins does Dylan? ~ it's riot! " You've got a lot of nerve" "Simple twist of fate"
Dylan of coarse is a senor monster. and Zappa? oh my!
Jack Johnson? ~ love his play style and lyric ~ but he's completely out of my voice range.
An old Jones and Hag fan, ~ I love them all!
Say a little prayer to Les Paul tonight ~ It's all good.

I never think of who best suits my voice as I can hit 7 c's but it is more comfortable to stay in the mid-section. "At Last" has been my favorite shower song the last few weeks.

"At Last" has been my favorite shower song the last few weeks.
no problem, ~ I check in on my friends. ~
So is something new in your life vvendy?
Etta James's , "at last" ain't no ordinary song
but one of great expectations and hope!
I always enjoyed " I'd rather go blind"
seems to sooth my darker side ~ being born with the blues.
of coarse it's completely out of my range to sing.
Janice Joplin was a big fan of Etta James.
You can hear it in her music if you stop to listen.
I met and hung out with Janice for about a year.
Not an ordinary lady, one that might be held for long
by anyone.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/12/2009 7:30:07 PM | | Have a listen to "It Don't Come Easy" preferably through a good quality set of headphones . Ringo was a drummer not a song writer. Lennon and McCartney were the main men and Geeorge Harrison the youngest Beatle struggled to get a go. Ringo was brought in by George Martin the sound engineer who didn't think Pete Best was quite good enough. Pete Best's claims to fame of being the fifth Beatle is madness if anything George Martin the sound man who mixed these great albums should get that recognition. | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/12/2009 7:45:49 PM | George Harrison went on in his solo career the release more albums than Lennon and McCarney and also did work in film and with Monty Python as well as many charity concerts , the most memorable being the Bangaladesh effort. Have a listen to " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" Joe****r did a cover version of this , good but not as good , I feel as the original For good drumming check out "Dig a Pony" from the "Let it Be " album, their last release in 1970 | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/13/2009 5:37:48 AM | Dammitt!! I can't stop listening to Sgt Peppers.... after getting a fresh copy last week...
when you stack it up against what the "pop" world was putting together at the time.... this LP has no comparison ... no pattern/formula or basic R&B back beats everyone else was using... new beats/rhythms.. new concepts in music... social comment.. ART... vaudeville even...
light flows on.......within you..... or without you..

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/18/2009 5:11:05 AM | | Life is good and I think that it is the music you listen to that sets your mood. A good song writer needs to use all the parts of the band. I think that having a front singer is important esp if you are singing a song but the back beat must be there even if it is off a snare drum or bass. David Lee Roth was nothing with out the band. | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/19/2009 12:25:14 PM | Its really no wonder people still are blown away by The beatles. A band far far ahead of their time. Lennon and Mccartney were voted the best songwriting team of the 20th century (even tho they wrote most of their songs seperatly) and the band continues to sell record at an incredible rate. Last figures i read on beatle sales were around 1.3 billion units sold to date..that is insane! but sadly yes ringo wasnt much of a writer even his solo hit songs. Photograph and It dont come easy were written in most part by good ole george and given to ringo. But if i need a pick me up I can always count on them to do it so i would say that a good song for me is for your blue or taxman..both george songs. | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 10/27/2009 8:38:33 PM | Just going from memory and experience. I believe Bob Dylan wrote his own music, almost exclusively, didn't he? I do not remember him covering - at least not on released songs. I only saw him once in concern tho.
A song to sing to cheer me up? well I do this. and my choice is often a song called "Happy Endings" by a band called Sugarland.
I also like things like" Now That I 've Found You" by Alison Kraus," and Joni Mitchell's "Crazy" is much fun to sing, and it's SO TRUE always puts me in a good mood.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 10/28/2009 9:26:16 AM | Wow! One might be led to believe no one wrong a song before or after the Beatles.
I see Neil Young and Bob Dylan have been mentioned... altho I do find Young's voice to be the more tolerable of the 2. It took a long time for me to appreciate Dylan's work simply cuz I couldn't understand a word he said most of the time and his more nasal efforts are like nails on a chalkboard. But that's a different thread I suppose.
Carole King pumped out alotta bubblegum but a few of her songs have withstood the test of time... even tho they're not exactly the cheer up kind. Willie Nelson has generated alotta songs and some are cheerful... some moreso than others depending on how many beers you wash em down with. Heh! I saw someone mentioned Steve Earl's Guitar Town. That's coming closer but, oddly enuf, I'd take Snake Oil or Other Kind as a pick me up.
How about: Kid Rock? Nah! Great pick me up but not so much on the acoustics. Guy Clark? H*** yeah!
