| Are you a snob about anything? Posted: 8/25/2009 4:28:48 AM | Many (with just a few exceptions) have answered the question "Are you a snob about anything?" by stating their preferences for certain products, services, standards etc.
This does not signify snobbishness, it merely indicates an individual's particular preference... unless their choice was based solely on the grounds that they'd be (seen as) 'superior' in so doing.
However it might be argued that those who attempt to put other posters down on this Forum (by regarding themselves and their ideas as superior to others) might legitimately be regarded as snobbish... because, by inference, they are viewing those with different views as being inferior (this of course doesn't apply to those that have the ability to see various and differing points of view).
I detest snobbery but will admit to enjoying a certain amount of choice when choosing where I live (to live amongst like-minded 'quieter' people!). This could be conceived by some as snobbish (and maybe rightly), whilst I would argue that like-minded people have a tendency to gravitate towards each other. Fishermen tend to like other fishermen, gardeners.. other gardeners etc etc etc.

Dado rails. Well not strictly the rail, but that style of decorating. Half patterned wall paper, half painted wall.
I'm going to duck for cover behind my Tretchikoff prints!

| Are you a snob about anything? Posted: 8/25/2009 1:16:43 PM | I am snobbish about:-
Women (as in dating, not the entire sex) Coffee Shoes Port English
Where does the concept of 'snobbish' end and that of 'personal tastes' begin? I wouldn't berate someone who had English as a second language, someone with a learning difficulty or a person who hadn't had the benefit of a good education for their English? So is that a 'taste' on my part?

| Are you a snob about anything? Posted: 8/28/2009 12:02:49 PM | After reading this thread I cant decide about whether I am a snob or not. Purely because Icant quite define what a snob is. I have very definite personal preferences regarding manners, ethics, food and clothing. However, it is not all about money. Recently went on an economy drive re groceries and discovered that my years of always buying Andrex toilet roll because it does not "pill" ie goes into little sausages of paper and disintegrate in use, have been wasted. Saxon, Aldi's own brand quilted roll is superior! Had to slum it recently because did not have time to go over to Aldis, had to use Andrex.
I particularly dislike loud, crude people with limited vocabularies, table manners and low life expectations so in that respect call me a snob, you will be complimenting me!

I am a snob about tea, I hate cheap crappy tea and will refuse to drink up, not to the point of being rude but will avoid at all costs. PG Tips being the best.
I'm an Earl Grey drinker so most other teas taste lacklustre in comparison. I was going to say 'nooooo', but now you mention it, it's what could be described as 'chavish' styles and behaviour. I could never watch 'Shameless'. I was brought up in a similar surroundings as was my mum *but* it was drilled into her and us not to act like we belonged there, which was a two-edged sword, you had to fight for your right to sound your aitches.
[rant]aitch but *not* 'haitch'![/rant]

Disagree, not the biggest fan of Spoons but compared to some pubs their selection of beers, lagers and spirits are vastly superior and less costly. The food however, is mostly cack.
