Actually extremist is a misnomer. They are NOT extreme christians nor extreme muslims because if they were they'd practice the teachings to the very letter. The world would indeed be a much better place if only all claiming to be christians actually practiced the teachings of Yashua to the letter of his Biblical teachings. So called evangelist like Pat Robertson show by their statements and actions that they are no different from extremist muslim clerics who make similar statements to his that the USA should assassinate Venuzeulan President Valdez, that the earthquakes in Haiti are God's judgement.Yeshua, teaches christians to love. Love thy neighbor as theyself, do unto others as you'd have them to do unto you. Somehow, the message of God's love and warnings against that type of judgement seems to fall short of the hearts of those like mr Robertson. | |

Posted: 2/3/2010 7:19:00 PM | One shouldn't be surprised by some of the reactions as at least one branch of Christendom, the extreme right, as represented by types like Robertson and James Dobson of Focus On The Family represent the type that don't wish you to hve a choice in how you conduct your religious and personal affairs and would consider this man's execution as a travesty of justice.
In fact, Dobson, the driving force behind the Superbowl anti-abortion ad, has gone on the record as supporting two political candidates in the past that would have not only tried to reverse Roe vs. Wade, but made performing abortions a capital case...execution for those performing abortion, not those killing abortionists...

We don't have them in the Catholic Church, "Rapture" believers, etc (though official Church position is against abortion). But we do have extremists (IMO) in the form of traditionalists / fundamentalists, such as Opus Dei, SSPX, etc, or the smaller SSPV (I believe technically excommunicated -- some are sedevacantists and they ordain their own bishops, etc). Most Catholics I know though, many of my own family members in fact, are "cafeteria" (at best), or really more like "cultural-only" plus 2 x / year and/or weddings, funerals , or baptisms. | |
