| Why are there so many attractive women on POF?
Posted: 6/6/2009 7:51:16 PM | It could be that they do not see themselves as so beautiful and that they are actual humble, amazing women who are not in the position of meeting a man who they feel that magic with. I can think of a dozen or so who are forum posters and they are just waiting until they meet the right one, apparently,and kuddos to them not to settle.
There are so many men in our communities that women do not have the opportunity to come in contact with unless it is online. There are some geuinely beautiful people on this site, inside and out.
It has been my experience with the men that I have met on here that they find I look just like my pics and I have found many of them to be even better looking because they had such fun personalities. Not every woman is trying to decieve others with old pics, glamour shots, etc. Some of us accept ourselves as we are, put ourselves out there, and hope to find someone special in the whole process. | |

.....its like OH yeah: I am still wanted out there !...But the reality is they wait for so long till they get sucked out of their attractive look (time is punishing isn't it?) look and end up being old and not so wanted anymore...
My great-grandmother still looked pretty hot at 92.

Posted: 6/6/2009 10:13:38 PM | In many cases, physically attractive (pretty) women have a certain sense of entitlement that many men simply do not want to put up with.
At some point, a few pretty women do grow weary of the games and want to have meaningful relationships. But toning down that sense of entitlement is not that easy.
Some succeed and some do not.
For example:
I was talking to this cute girl one day, as I liked her independence (okay, and looks) and I thought at the time that she had a very realistic view of the world (e.g. politics, finance etc..).
However, all of that turned out to be purely theoretical.
Yeah, she "understood" it on a textbook level, but it was apparently other people's responsibility to do all the work. She was dragging out graduate school for 5 years (more like hardly working than working hard, I believe) and was planning to spend more time there, because it was flexible hours, summer was relaxing and it was more part-time and was enough for her needs.
Additionally:
a) she did not want to work (no job), because it's too hard for her pretty face
b) she did not want to be a stay home mom either, because it's "boring"
c) she also told me that she was "old-fashioned", in a sense that a man must provide everything for his woman and his family.
Yeah, babe, I'm old-fashioned too - I believe a happy family takes hard-work and is a two-way street.
I'll try to provide for everything, but what are you gonna do?
There's no "us" if I'm the only one meeting all the commitments to "us", right?

Posted: 6/6/2009 10:47:52 PM | I doubt attractive women would have any real problems finding guys with similar values or views offline. I think the main reason for attractive women, just like attractive men, to be on here is that they tend to be very, very picky. People with an inflated self-esteem will see themselves as above everyone else and be incredibly critical.
They follow the "guilty until proven innocent" mentality, basically turning down the opposite sex left and right over little trivial things without ever getting to know them; but in the end, they set their expectations for a perfect situation or a perfect mate to an unrealistically high level and will hold on to their fairy tale endings in absolute faith, usually alienating everyone else in the process.
I could be wrong too, maybe their job/situation limits their ability to network or maybe they really are looking for someone to love them for who they are on the inside without being judged on their looks. I know everyone has their own unique reasons to be here. | |

Posted: 6/7/2009 8:25:57 AM | Sometimes it's hard for attractive women to get what they want. Sure, they have a HUGE selection of men to choose from, but none-of-which that they want. So maybe they come to online dating sites for more options.
Also, online dating is a lot more mainstream now. I think back then, it was something that you might be embarrassed about, but now, just about everyone has their pic on a dating site.
Too bad all women get from dating sites are just pics of of idiot guys showing off their penises. | |

Posted: 6/8/2009 11:15:50 AM | I don't think it follows that if you are beautiful you have loads of guys chasing you. Beauty is only skin deep after all! Also, it is difficult to get out and about unless you have a good circle of friends to go out with. A lot of people use these sites as a means of meeting people. Women generally won't got into a pub on their own and sit all night. I have been going out as a single for about 9 months now, mainly socialising with friends, out for a meal, drink, chat. I have never once been approached by a man, chatted up, asked out. I may not be in some peoples' eyes - beautiful but I think I look OK. So how do you meet people nowadays? When you have been out of circulation for 20-30 years, how do you get back in? Most of the people your own age are married or with a partner. It's different, thats all. | |

Not for just anyone...you can meet anyone anywhere. If it were so easy to fall in love and connect on all the levels that are important there'd be a lot less singles in general. The challenge is finding someone you want to actually be with!

Most attractive women I've met, spoken too, laughed with, and etc, don't get approached or asked out that often in the real world. When I've asked if they were single, it was usually the case that they were. It may be, perhaps, that most guys think, "Surely must have a boyfriend so why bother risking the humiliation". Or they think, "Surely she wouldn't be interested in me, she could get any man she wants!" Or some other form of intimidated and wussified behavior/thought pattern. And, so, because so many men are too timid and shy to go up, strike up a conversation, ask them out, and begin dating, they resort to PoF.
I've also met people like Telenochek mentioned. But by far that is not the norm from my experience. Some beautiful people are really ugly inside, but most are just as beautiful on the inside as they are lovely on the outside. Your mileage may vary. | |

You hear this a lot, but I've never bought it. Anytime I see a really attractive woman at a bar, there's always guys approaching her. (and I live in a city where most local women say guys are overly reserved compared to other places)
I think what most attractive girls mean when they say that no one talks to them, is that the right guys don't talk to them. They disregard the guys who actually do approach but they aren't interested in (which is most guys) and then falsely lament that they get ignored. I call bull on that. | |

1) the good guys are insecure and think they have no shot
2) the attractive girls are insecure and don't ask out the guys
3) they've been hurt in the past and don't trust anyone, especially the ones that are "too good to be true"
4) they're the intelligent, mature type who don't give the "hot" guys the time of day because they have the "dumb" stereotype or because these guys are often conceited
5) vice-versa: hot girls get the bimbo stereotype or the "she must get around" slander
6) they don't go to the right places to find a guy
7) they go out in groups of other hot girls - too much competition, and intimidating
8) they haven't been looking until now, and feel the pressure to find someone

Misrepresentation of looks, along other things, is huge online. I can speak from experience that a woman does not always match up with her photo. But make no mistake: there are some physically attractive ones, but beauty is only skin deep too. A rotten personality can kill off looks in no time.
Just like guys, some women are on here to find a more convienant and systematic way of meeting someone or like you said, lol, they can't get dates offline. | |

This is a ridiculous question.
There are a lot of attractive women doing online dating for the same reason there are a lot of attractive men online. Because people are busy, they work a lot of hours, and they no longer have time to go to barn raisin's and corn shuckins, and church ice cream socials and catfish fries down at the fire department to meet people, the way people did in the old days. This is a quicker way to meet people, and it can be an efficient way to eliminate certain people from your interests without having to go through the drudgery of having people set you up with someone only to find out that they are totally not for you.
Not being interested in you or anyone else does not equal "trying to add to their collection of admirers." | |
