There are far too many "they don't know's" to keep experimenting with people. They're just guinea pigs....beta testers...just like MS Windows.

Are you saying you would not appreciate the alternative of "you can try this method of therapy, but there are things we really don't understand about it" to just being told best of luck mate, keep a stiff upper lip?

Problems in today's world are very complex - most of the easy problems have been solved. Yes, Microsoft beta tests, but so does Linux & Leopard - the problem, the solution and the application of an OS is far too complicated to get it totally right answer- the best you can hope for is a high percentage of partial credit. The Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz couldn't make in today's scientific research world, the knowledge required to solve most problems is so esoteric that it requires a lot of knowledge that is specific to the research.
