| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/9/2009 12:35:50 AM | As mentioned above, you might find a more comfortable & enjoyable journey then meeting a friend before travelling with them ; imagine trying to observe with someone who can't stop talking!
I plan on cruising with NCL, or Norweginal Cruise Lines - who do 'freestyle cruising - no eating rules doens't penalise solo travellers. Traveling might be more pleasurable with a fellow traveller, but life' doesn't stop if If somoene isn't available!
Also "Go Your Own Way: Women Travel the World Solo" has proved invaluable birthday present at times!

sky scanners is great for getting cheap flights and it gives u a monthly view of flights from/to your desired destination. and what dates are the cheapest. then i go onto alpharooms and usually book my hotel round the flights.. hope these sites help fellow travellers

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/22/2009 5:26:04 AM | | i have travelled all over - just me and my daughter. sometimes i feel lonely though, especially when i see lovers in a restaurant and things like that. but i always make friends so usually end up with other adults to hang around with. i wish you all the luck on your travels | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/22/2009 2:56:06 PM | it sounds exciting but i'm a scaredy cat. i watch a lot of horror movies from joyride to vacancy (movies about traveling) and would have to wait for someone to travel. women have to be more careful than men. i'm not licensed to carry yet and the black pepper spray doesn't work on hardcore criminals (alchol/drug induced).
my dream trip would be to do that route 66 and long sailing trip.

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/23/2009 5:25:23 PM | Can't agree with you more.
Visiting a foreign country solo is a very liberating experience. Unexpected things happen when you are by yourself that wouldn't with company. As an individual you are less of a threat, more approachable, independent, and surging with nervous energy.

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/26/2009 7:26:58 PM | | I enjoy travelling alone, but I prefer with someone. Last year I did a trip to Kansas, by every back road I could find, and in June my plans are to go to Alaska then to the Grand Canyon for about two months. Anyone want to go with me? | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/27/2009 6:28:39 PM | | I love traveling & travel alone much of the time. The most recent trip was to visit my son in Seoul, S. Korea. I had 6 days there (3 with my son). I had a blast. I travel to give myself reward for completing work assignments, or just have a wild hair. I also have a few co-workers that I travel with once or twice a year. Last trip was to the winter carnival in St. Paul, MN. Traveling in general is great - alone or not. If you have not tried traveling on your own, do your homework & GO ! You won't regret it. | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 10/27/2009 11:28:22 PM | Las Vegas is awesome. Been there 4 times, twice on my own for 5 days! :) Been New York on my own aswell. I don't think New York is the type of place to go to on your own as i think you should share the experience with someone. However, Las Vegas gave me a sense of freedom, i just felt free to do whatever i wanted whenever i wanted and it is a truely amazing place. | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/1/2009 2:46:43 PM | | I see no reason not to travel alone. The first time I did it was 30 years ago, and it was successful enough for me to never think twice about doing it again. Have traveled on my own many, many times since. Just got back from 9 days in Croatia, on my own. Very interesting trip too. I would much rather travel on my own than have a companion simply to have a companion. Traveling with someone because you want to be with that person is great; traveling with someone because you don't want to be on your own is, well, it is not my way of doing things. I'm fine on my own. | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/2/2009 10:17:38 AM | Most of my travel outside the U.S. has been alone and I have never regretted it. I have gone on bus tours with other people once there- so I didn't feel lonely at all (in fact--- all of that "togetherness" can get old really quickly!) It can be a little scarey as a single woman alone--- but you just have to be extra cautious and think smart. Be sure to look up what specific alerts and dangers may lurk in the areas that you will be travelling before you go.
When I was younger I went on a Contiki Tour for people under 35 and we all stayed together in places such as canal and river boats, manor houses, a hostel, 4 star hotels... every night was different. On another tour they paired me with another single gal who was my roomate for the whole 28 day tour! Saved us both a lot of money because we got the "doubles" price instead of the MUCH pricier singles rate, and she was a delightful girl from Australia. Besides, we just HAD to be together for the sleeping accomodations- not for everything we did if we didn't want to.
I wouldn't trade the memories I've made from my decisions to travel alone rather than wait for a mate or travel companion, as who knows what experiences I may never have had? "There is nothing to fear but fear itself." In fact- the one time I travelled with a friend was the biggest bummer of all, sadly. Let's just say you have to be especially "equally yoked" to travel together, trust me...

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/8/2009 6:07:56 AM | My neighbours went to Florida for the winter, they are very intelligent- it is too cold in Canada; and they go away for 6 months every year;
I really want to go away, I hate the job I have and am pretty stressed; so when I can I hope to travel somewhere with beautiful warmer climate! Wish me success..

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/8/2009 12:32:27 PM | Love your sense of humor, the parrot, if he really exists, sounds hilarous.
I prefer to travel with someone, however, I have taken a chance and met up with a stranger a couple of times. Both times were cruises, one was highly successful and the other, well, let's just say the dancing was fun.

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/9/2009 7:00:11 AM | I have always wanted to travel but I am terrified to go alone. More than anything I want to go to New York. I have had tickets twice for the Dr. Oz show and had to cancel because the rest of the group cancelled and I don't want to make the trip alone.
I know I am missing out on so much adventure but I just don't think I can do it alone.

For me, travel is discovery and adventure, not so much tourism, so though I think traveling with a friend (someone I'd want to spend time with in any case, not just someone going with me so I don't have to go alone) is great, wonderful, there is a certain kind of excitement and challenge when traveling alone that adds a richness to the experience.
Well said for those who have the wanderlust of travel and adventure. The travel and adventure is your companion and your never alone. There are also guides, locals who love to give the traveler info in their areas sights, smells and sounds.
Now if you were on your Honeymoon ,I would say it would better too travel together! lol

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/9/2009 2:30:39 PM | curious, what are terrified of about travelling alone? Look at it as an adventure to unfold... I have been to New York... And if I had the money I'd be on a airplane quick, let me tell you..I have waited in the past for people to travel with and sometimes they are not available to travel..
If I had the opportunity like you to go to New York.. You better believe I would go and enjoy Dr. Oz's television show.. Also you have to remember that other people travel alone as well even though they are frightened and if you get to see Dr. Oz's show, I guarantee you that there will be other ladies in the audience who are alone as well.. You might just make some new friends on your journey..
Do miss out on the opportunity to discover that you can actually enjoy yourself travelling alone..

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/11/2009 9:51:44 AM | | I'm heading off next month for a week to Disney by myself. I really need a vacation and right now none of my friends can afford a vacation. This will be my first time vacationing alone, and at first I was a little apprehensive. But as it grows closer to Dec. 16th I am getting more excited. And who knows I may meet other people there by themselves. | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/11/2009 4:21:12 PM | | Just got back from Vegas for 5th time this year. I prefer to go alone to Vegas-as someone else previously posted-I have my own agenda and dont have to worry about entertaining anyone else. It is fun to go with folks that have similar interests but sometimes it is just fine to adventure around solo. You can spend a lot of money or a little money in Vegas & there is a ton to do w/out gambling. Am off to New Orleans next month solo. Cant wait to hit Cafe Dumond. Hopefully next year maybe Europe or Australia!! Dont be afraid-Just go for it!! | |

| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/13/2009 1:49:37 AM | | I have travelled alone, but always meet up with people in hostels. Travel with them for awhile then go on my way. Its really a care-free way of travelling. | |
|
| Traveling Alone? Posted: 11/13/2009 2:35:51 PM | | I prefer to mix it up. Some trips are for the family, some for just the guys, and some are for me. Solo trips are great for introspection. Group trips are great for sharing. | |
