| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 4:04:42 PM | I would have to say that she was attacked pretty ferociously from day one of the announcement she would be McCain`s running mate and continued long after the election was over for the simple fact that the left and dems seen, felt and realized she was, is and would continue to be a threat to them politically. Yes, they felt threatened.
If someone is a non threat or a non issue, is there really any incentive to even bother with or waste time attempting to paint in a negative light ? Of course not. No one will waste time on a loser or someone who is a non issue. This simple fact alone simply shows she was and is a force to be reckoned with.......... and they know it....regardless of what your or my personal feelings are for the woman...

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 4:27:46 PM | she was and is a force to be reckoned with Not any more. There's something fishy about the way this is going down. No one ever steps down just so they can "pass the ball." Everyone who has stepped down has either been indicted or skirting a scandal.
I don't see how she can be taken serious as a future candidate. She left an elected office just over half way through her first term. She just up and quit on the citizens who elcted her. Looks bad.

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 7:04:33 PM | She's following MacArthur: She's not retreating, she's just advancing in another direction!

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 8:02:37 PM | skootch...... looks are deceiving. Politics is fishy business to begin with.
Political decisions are most often very, very calculated and deliberate strategic postioning....She is free now...... the force that is to be reckoned with is going to grow......
They ( the media) have had a microscope up her azz since it was announced that she would be McCain`s running mate. If there was some sort of a scandel brewing, the drive by news media would have been on it like a bum on a baloney sandwich...

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 9:29:37 PM | Romney/Palin 2012
I don't think the Repubs have the you know what..... to put that ticket out there... And The Dems think they would have fun with that one ... I could hear all the jokes and bashing already.... But I think that would be good for our country.
|
| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/3/2009 10:11:16 PM | It will be interesting to see what happens next. I wonder what McCain saw in her; I'm not seeing it.
Much as I dislike certain things about her, I'm sorry to see her step down this way. There is one time when I up and quit that it made sense and was the right thing to do. I've regretted it every other time. And oh the bridges I've burned.

Political decisions are most often very, very calculated and deliberate strategic postioning.... Political strategist on both sides of the aisle are saying this move amounts to political suicide. You can't just up and quit on the people who elected you and then expect people to put you back in office, especially the most powerful position in the world as some people are speculating. She claims she doesn't ever want to be a lame duck. Every elected official who finshes their terms have been lame ducks at some point.
Her basketball analogy is pretty lame. It sounds like: I have the ball and when the time comes to score a basket I want to pass the ball to someone else. I'm not the kind of leader who wants the ball in my hands when it really counts.
Governors are less like point gaurds, whose job it is to get other people the ball and more like baseball batters. You've got a team routing for you, it's you against the pitcher (advesaries), the ball (issues/problems) is about to be pitched, and she steps out and calls for a pinch hitter. That's what quitters do. Winners want to stay in the game. That's why my "batter"" analogy is more fitting than her "point gaurd" analogy, because point gaurds din't quit by passing the ball. She quit. More like a scared batter who pulls herself out of the game.
This is a case of she can't take the heat and she is getting out of the kitchen. She won't be back in politics. She may be able to have a tv show where her loyal followers can tune in and give her dismal ratings. She can't be trusted in positions of true responsibility where you have millions of people counting on you.

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/4/2009 10:38:59 AM | We do not know if her future aim is a presidential bid or not. Everything that you or I or anyone else thinks is pure conjecture at this point. My point was simply she has something up her sleeve and is politically re-positioning herself in some way. Her stepping down was huge news. If it was any other governor it would have been covered as little more then a footnoot on the days news.
She is obviously very, very popular. Even you skootch are talking about her on your day off and Ace as well and she is someone you both do not care for, so her popularity, be it positive or negative is powerful....If you notice the McCain/Palin ticket lost the election but rarely do you hear anyone talk about McCain months and months after the election......This is precisely what I meant when I stated that she is a force to be reckoned with, regardless if you like or dislike her, love or hate her.
And as far as what the pundits or strategists say........eehhhh..... history knows all too well they have been wrong as many times as they have been right and vica versa. Also depends on what news channel one is listening to. Unfortunately, our news media now goes down political party lines.......so the spin will be different depending on the station........................ as well as what particular "strategists " the station employs....
Above all else.......one thing has absolute certainty....... only time will tell...

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/4/2009 10:51:47 AM | ^Dave, That's got to be the smartest post anyone could make at this moment on that.
As her question to her kids was, "do you want (herself) to fight for kids rights from beyond the governor's office?".................We can't rule out any of the many avenues that this could also otherwise include too. Spokesperson for a non-profit? Leader of an awarness organization? Organizer of a lobby group that furthers kids' interests? We will have to wait and see. But whatever it is, it will be powerfilled!

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/4/2009 12:13:20 PM | Dave, I agree with o4,. That was a very good post. I can only be an armchair QB in the first place. You're right about her popularity. She has a future somewhere. I just don't think it will be in politics for the near future. She's young and has plenty of ambition. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if the talking heads are wrong. You always present a good arguement. | |
|
| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/4/2009 1:21:24 PM | We are all armchair QB`s whose life revolves around a forum on a free dating website, LOL
I mean, who knows....she can make a fool out of all of us. Next thing you know it will come out that She was also having a fling (or threesome) in Argentina with Sanford the governor of South Carolina.
But for the record. I was never really pro McCain. I was actually disapointed that he won the primary. I really wanted Romney. But I am a republican and I voted for my party. Palin was an after thought to me as far as running mates go but the woman literally exploded onto the scene in such a big way it had everybodys heads spinning and it hasn`t really stopped 7 months after the fact......
Now if you`ll excuse me......I am off to try and find a date

| Letterman v Palin Posted: 7/4/2009 6:10:21 PM | A clip and past from Sarah Palin's comments on her Facebook page today, July 4, 2009:
Happy 4th of July from Alaska! Today at 1:55pm On this Independence Day, I am so very proud of all those who have chosen to serve our great nation and I honor their selflessness and the sacrifices of their families, too.
If I may, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours and share my thoughts with you.
First, I want to thank you for your support and hard work on the values we share. Those values led me to the decision my family and I made. Yesterday, my family and I announced a decision that is in Alaska’s best interest and it always feels good to do what is right. We have accomplished more during this one term than most governors do in two – and I am proud of the great team that helped to build these wonderful successes. Energy independence and national security, fiscal restraint, smaller government, and local control have been my priorities and will remain my priorities.
For months now, I have consulted with friends and family, and with the Lieutenant Governor, about what is best for our wonderful state. I even made a few administrative changes over that course in time in preparation for yesterday. We have accomplished so much and there’s much more to do, but my family and I determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title helps Alaska most. And once I decided not to run for re-election, my decision was that much easier – I’ve never been one to waste time or resources. Those who know me know this is the right decision and obvious decision at that, including Senator John McCain. I thank him for his kind, insightful comments.
The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American understands what it takes to make a decision because it’s right for all, including your family.
I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!
God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!
Sarah
