Relationships a Distraction?

Actually, OP, I think your question is distracting me from my relationship (which IS a significant part of the purpose of life, IMO), so I'm not going to try to analyze your question any further.

Development for what? So you feel better about yourself? So you have a sense of purpose? And what is that purpose? Why do relationships have to suffer along the way?

Our purpose in life is the cause and effect of all our interactions. Relationships are at the center of that purpose. If we think that we have to be complete, or all knowing, or all developed we will miss that our purpose is not a goal but a journey. And that journey is how we cope with adversity, how we respond, and how we then pass along what we have. Part of that makes us is how our lives affects others, whether you are a doctor, a garbage collectors, a mother, a father, all those require interactions and produce a cause and effect.

Like ripples on the water, everything that we do, alone or in a group, directly or indirectly has an effect. Even when we chose not to do something, we are making a choice, thus doing something.

^^^ I'm not saying that relationships have to suffer but sometimes they are a distraction from the work of becoming a better person, that's all. I agree that we are in relationship anyway. I was talking about relationship as in a couple. When they don't work out you wonder if you just settled or whether you were on the path to self-actualization every step along the way. I am not saying I have the answers, just the questions. You don't have to agree with me...I was just putting it out there. Thanks for your replies.
