| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/16/2009 9:39:48 AM | | I don't think you need 3 hours per day/ 5 days per week. I go often because I love training... though even I'm aware its not necessarily what's optimal. As a beginner, its definitely overkill. And will likely hurt your progress more. I'm making assumptions here of course... so let me ask, what do you plan on doing in those 3 hours? | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/16/2009 12:13:44 PM | well the instructo on duty the last 2 days is a complete muppet who does care and is going end of the month . he still hasnt giving my a proper run through of the equipment , my dad whos been a memeber of the gym for 14 years is abit livid
but i'm basically lookign to get fit and get some definition to my body . nothing over the top, but enough to get noticed from my less the pathetic frame atm :)
ive been doing rowing ( did 2500 meters yesterday,5500 today ) , also tried cross dresser....i mean trainer :p , and some of the weights machines whos names fail me. one was the abs one ...which i did more of today than yesterday, and some leg pullups.
i'm after a general buildup, but one that will be definately noticable by xmas

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/16/2009 2:28:15 PM | go for it.... I thought it was just the woman scorned who went all out to change her looks for the better just to say 'stuff you' ...
If you want to do it in 6 months you are going to have to get yourself more organised with your workout programme.

i'm after a general buildup
If, by that, you mean you want to gain size by putting on muscular bodyweight, then you're going to be doing the complete opposite with . . . . .
i put in 3 hours a day / 5 days a week
Unless you have a really slow metabolism or consume an extremely HUUUUGE amount of calories, that volume of training will cause you to down size rather than build up.

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/16/2009 6:47:25 PM | Why would i hang out with sweaty, smelly, people in a closed confined space with next to no air conditioning when i can go out on my bike for a few hours taking in the scenery and fresh air of a forest?
To each his own. I wont pay no club for the "privilege" of their premises. Even people lifting weights could do this at home so i think there is more to going to a club then to work out. Might be a social thing but i can't understand it.

Not everyone has room for what many may consider the minimum needed to maximize their muscle gains such as a squat rack and bench. And frankly, riding a few hours on a bike will not suffice either. But as you said, to each their own.

My job has me n my feet for 8 hours three days a week. Always moving there. (Going to take my pedometer this week to see just how much I walk while there)
P.S. Finally got the new battery and took my pedometer to work today. 9900+ steps (pretty much three miles) in all by the time I clocked out. Then I walked another mile to the bus.
Yeah... the gym can bite me on days like today :P

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/16/2009 9:09:04 PM | Where do people get the moronic idea that folks who train in gyms never see the light of day or get a breath of fresh air??? | |

What, do you live in a Third World country or something?
I've never been to a gym that had no AC.

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/17/2009 8:44:14 AM | errrrmmmm... my local gym doesn't have air con... just ceiling fans! Mind you it isn't so hot over here even on the hottest days lol. Sweaty bodies are alright so long as they are not smelly and in all honesty I rarely get a whiff of B.O. but a guy passed by me the other day and stank of garlic | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/17/2009 1:55:30 PM | | i work out about 4 days a week, depending on what i have to do that day sometimes my schedule changes | |
|
| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/18/2009 9:14:13 AM | Too much, but I love it! 5-6 times a week for weight training. On days I'm not in the gym, I go on long runs. During months I'm cutting, I'll run in the morning and lift in the evening.
I also made sure "traveling for work" would not be in my book of excuses by getting gym memberships (yes, plural) at gyms where I can go anywhere in the country (e.g., Bally Fitness, LA Fitness, etc.).

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/18/2009 11:28:41 PM | This past winter I was going about 3 to 5 times a week. I am doing tons of yard work, riding my bike, walking, and using a TRX system now a days... | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/20/2009 7:51:50 PM | | 2-3 times per week whenever the classes fit into my schedule. I supplement with home workouts (step aerobics, weights, resistance bands, etc.) and outdoors whenever possible. | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/21/2009 9:11:21 AM | | No Gym time for me. I spend almost every day on a schooner working the sails, raising and lowering the anchor by hand a few times a day, putting 7 to 10 two person kayaks in and out of the water twice a day, Kayaking for two 50 minute tours, snorkeling for two 45 minute sessions and riding my bike to work every day. I don't have time for the gym but I really think I need to start going. | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/22/2009 10:22:41 AM | At least I visit the Y twice a week, you can often see me running through the track, salsa through the latin exercise, doing aerobics with the group and trying some of the machines too.
I really like to get back at Taekwondo and swimming classes problem is, the classes start late at 9pm for adults.

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/22/2009 11:47:59 AM | | I was going to the gym 4 times a week, while going to school to finish my grade 12, and doing muay thai and brazilian jiu jitsu training ON TOP of a part time job and committments with friends and family. Its all about time management brother, stay cool! | |

| How often do you visit the gym? Posted: 6/22/2009 11:51:07 AM | | There is such a thing as overtraining.. If your goal is to lose fat and tone up a little. A beginner routine would DEFINATLY be the best path for you, especially since you have not been exercising for many years. The high rep low weight is a scam. Use a weight that you can complete no more than 12 reps of. Google search a 3 day beginner plan, get your diet in order (500 calories less than your BMR, not starvation) and perform low intensity cardio training (fast walk to sloowww jog) for 45 minutes upon waking up, and 45 minutes after exercising.. The reason for this is that you glycogen stores are low at this point and it will be easier for your body to utilize fat as energy instead of muscle. | |
