MSG 45 Irony is one of my favourites, especially when intentional, and particularly when unrecognised in oneself.

Now I'm confused......how does anyone else know that a person hasn't recognised it in themselves?

Do tell!

I have a milkman, he's pretty old but I think he would be miffed to be called obsolete, and I trust him to deliver what I want when I want, in the same way as he trusts me to pay him when he leaves a bill

And I have seen many a cad on pof

I was probably being Ironic Jo using words gleaned from a childhood of watching call my bluff or looking at other words in the dictionary that were not rude ones.

PATIENCE

Apologies for double post earlier, anyone with 3 mobile will understand

What about the slang for our old coinage such as
Tanner (sixpence)
Bob (shilling)
Shilling (twelve old pence)
Farthing (a quarter of an old penny)
Half a Crown (two shillings and sixpence)

and the old games that we played
Hopscotch
French skipping

loads more and when I get five mins I will add to these

Half-crowns,

Radiograms,

The OP is concerned with obsolete words, not items.

Many of the quoted words are still in everyday use........

Sheepshagger

As long as there are sheep, there will be 'sheepshaggers'......

OP:

there are some words (items / stuff /things ) that are obsolete

My offering isn't quite in the total spirit of the OP who seems to be looking for modern stuff that's obsolete, but there is a lovely word in Chaucer that I really would like to bring back into currency.

We know what piecemeal means - have you ever considered what the opposite might be? Well, it's flockmeal. Now, isn't that a lovely word?

First of all it would be useful if people read what what written in th OP, rather than what they thought they read

I read the thread title, actually.......it does not mention 'items', only 'words'.

Secondly, are you after my starfish?

I don't know - what ticket did your starfish draw? My ticket says 59.....

Only you seem obsessed with my every post,
there are many others to read.

I tend to reply to posts that contain either the most errors/incorrect statements/bollox or which ask the most questions of mine - yours have a habit of falling into both camps, hence the high number of replies to them I make......

If you actually haven't got any words/stuff/things to contribute to the thread,
there's not much point in just erroneously correcting me is there?

Forum rules allow for the discussion of on-topic posts - are you suggesting that your posts are off-topic?

"Romance"

People have forever been saying "Romance is dead". Well now seem's like it is finally dead and gone as the most "romantic" a guy has been with me is standing scratching his nuts and handing me a bunch of flowers he's robbed from someones garden, whilst drooling and making some odd noise that makes me feel he's either Beavis or Buttheads son.

"responsibility"

Too many people make mistakes and then point the finger - I mainly mean in the litigation sense ie "my child is obese due to eating too many of your hamburgers" (the case where McDonalds were being sued)
