this is just a question matt: are you implying that musicians/artists are poor and irresponsible (NOT COMING DOWN ON YOU JUST ASKING)
that has been my experience. at lot of my friends are musicians, (classical/rock/rap-everything) and they all make a pathetic amount of money. true, some people DO make it big, but the >vast< majority don't. just my $.02

Posted: 7/6/2005 12:46:45 AM | | ok well just for example my friends belongs to an up and coming band they after 6 years are just now getting to a place where the money is good enuff to leave or cut down on there day job its been mine and the experiance of many musicians i know are very responsible they still realize that having a fall back plan is essential i my self play in a band and i have a 13$ an hour job 40 hours a week and do fairly well i pay all my bills and save and everything as do many of my friends that play music , if your experiances have taught you different i'm just letting you know that its not as vast an occurance as you may think its not as wide a trend for musicians/ artists to be poor or irresponsible as you might think . don't judge(not saying you are) the many by a few also in your original message that i replied to it seemed most small bands have to pay there own equipement upkeep and buy it all as well as pay gas to and from gigs sometimes rent out space to practice maintain a vehicle for the band ect so having a day job can be essential because until you develop a foloowing and clubs like you more the money isn't that good the drummer from sam roberts band (if you know who they are) worked full time till 3 months before there record deal i gueess all this is to say don't jusge many by the actions of a few | |

As a Drummer, I know when i started doing clubs in the late 80's *ouch damn* Even with the big P.A's in those days..doing it full time,guys could make a not bad living...!
but as im sure all see's the world is crumbling and well no one is hitting the clubs as much as before...which kinda sucks nuts..but hey..
Ooops right...Women that like drummers/musicians.was the question right?.lol ya i thought it was the singers..them damn trophy's lol
At th beginning bla bla bla..guys just starting out to play clubs,meeting women was the coolist....And ya musicians got/get a bad wrap..just because they are in the spotlight or should I say main focus in the building most of the times...but I will say ALL musicians are different...and I aint gonna bring up lawers/bankers/doctors etc... but ya...as for "typical musician" slang I sooooo much hate..It really sucks that we always get the look down on respect most of the time...Sorry if im off topic but

Anyways....
Maybe I been playing too long that I can't stop ...but I will say, Besides driving Crotch Rocket bikes,,There ain't no bigger rush than playing infont of a wack of people enjoying what your doing...

Posted: 7/6/2005 3:01:37 AM | | A few decades and many bands later I can attest in sure aint the $. Clubs are paying less now than they did in the 60's and 70's. I have played with a lot of different drummers some great and some not so good, but I have never met a drummer with a bad disposition. I took lessons for a while to see what makes a drummer tick and I honestly believe it's because they are taking all their daily frustrations out on the kit. Drummers are always happy and bubbly and usually very funny people. As far as picking up all the women, well those days are long gone :(. We do it for the passion of music now. Not the money or the perks, which can relate to another thread about what is true love ..."Music" | |

Posted: 7/6/2005 4:36:08 AM | I was a groupie for many years in my youth.....and for me it was the whole bad boy image....i luvved it........still like to go out and see the live bands in bars now and then but not as a groupie....i have a great deal of respect for musicians though.....escpecially those that play instruments.........and i luv their enthusiasm for what they are doing..........far to many synthesizers out there anymore....i just don't see the talent in that

See...i think it sort of begins with the fame and $$....or the young kids just believing that one day their gonna make it! We start young and have these aspirations of one day we're gonna be a doctor! fire fighter! big rock star man!! Then as the kids start doing shows, realize how hard it is, they begin to settle down...and slowly they begin to just love playing gigs for the fun, the fans, and the good times :)
Everything revolves around maturity....just some people never get there >> SUM 41 << evil heheheh. I dont play an instrument...well besides the flute and sax << do they count, LOL!! But i've been around it ALLLLLLLLLL my life. My ex was huge into it all...that was the longest 4.5 years of my life. I've got to witness the maturity cycle takes it tole. Oh and ladies...sometimes they revolve back to being immature :)

Posted: 7/6/2005 9:43:15 AM | ok i canvased my the girls i know: arcording to them(ten of them) drummers are known to be the bad boys the funny guys the ones that will end up doing crazy sh...t, tommy lee and keith moon are good examples, being in the back behind the drums gives them a mystery of sorts,
guitarists: out in front playing those great solos and such they along with the singer and bassist and so on are up front people get to see more of them so they can get the ladies in particular attention ,
singers: well the front man ......the guy that seems to control the band the voice of the band this seems to give off a sense a power and some woman find that power attractive that and if you can sing they seem to dig that as well
also getting back to the money issue i again repeat that most bands that aren't a big name unless they make damn good money playing clubs hold down day jobs in various fields the no money and irresponsibility is on an individual basis
also i gotta give big ups to the guitarists bassists, singers ect but drummers are forgotten heroes let us not forget we can spoil the show but simply decreasing our tempo or playing even slighrtly off key so be nice to us | |

With us being off our game..the whole band comes down with it..we are the backbone...umm hmm...Ya I feel like im behind an iron curtain most times...I remember a few times going out front and grabbing the mic a few times..holy crap..I just pictured everyone in there underwear.. lol
One of the bonuses is..being a drummer we can pretty well jam our way through almost anything if we don't know it...
you hit a wrong note (guitar) and out come the eyes staring at your butt..

For me...MUSIC..has always been a part of my life...I love it..I play it..and I would prefer to be involved with someone who has the same "PASSION" for music...it is important to me.
I do not find any one specific member of any band especially "hot"...I do not care what instrument they play...my attraction is based solely on the person themself....without music, I would be completely lost..
So yes...I am attracted to musicians..but not for the reasons you have stated above.
