Posted: 6/19/2009 9:43:50 AM | Why is it that some people think if they are talking to you, you or they are off limits to others? Where did this ruling come from? It is premature!
It is not a game! You are both establishing communication and trying to see if you want more of it. But to suddenly be put in a position where you are supposed to have given your commitment to be talking to only one person...Simply heartbreak waiting to happen!
Unless both parties make an agreement to be exclusive, there is nothing going on. You are not a couple yet! You have to have the talk. Don't base anything on just an understanding. You have to establish the fact that you are both off limits.
Regardless of how many messages one gets, just because someone replied to you does not indicate that she is obligated to only talk to you. Jeez! That is why I am seriously thinking of read/deleted as well, rather than replying just to be polite. Chances are someone will give more serious meaning to it. Then, they pay you back with rudeness. It is frustrating on both sides but the reality is, nothing worthwhile is going to be accomplished by presuming things.
This is not a lottery that the number has no choice but to belong to you and you are the winner if you pick it. This involves two people and though we have to follow social graces to belong in a society, just talking means nothing serious unless both agree and actually spell it out that they are going to be exclusive. Ok. So you strike out a bars and assume that because they are texting someone at bars, you'll be more successful with writing/texting of some sort. You start an online account and make the exact same mistakes. You want women to be aggressive and commit to you without actually giving them any reason to believe they should.
Fail.
First of all, a lot of women are going to expect YOU to be aggressive no matter what. Clearly you don't do that well in person... that's ok. Neither do I. Sometimes it's hard to compete with the guy who is 6'3" and built like a truck.
However, if you're going to be online, you need to be assertive. Dating online IS a competition. Regardless of what you prefer, your advertising yourself to the women on this site. If you don't do it well, you won't get any e-mails, no one will respond to yours, and you'll probably stay frustrated. If you can't handle that idea, delete your profile and wait for some woman to chase you (believe me... you'll be waiting a while).
Additionally, if you want some woman to only talk to you, how in the world do you expect her to email you first? That's just illogical. "I want her to know that we're going to talk and hit it off and therefore only e-mail me." Come on dude. Get off your lazy butt and send some messages yourself or stop whining. | |

Posted: 6/19/2009 12:08:52 PM | Imagine the amount of messages, emails and responses women get when/if they use a multitude of social dating websites. In a years time they could get some 70 to 200 men/year.
Now for illustration sake, lets say a lady is on a 5 year plan to find Mr Wonderful - she might get anywhere from 350 to 1000 men to contact her.
Makes you wonder with such a high count of men showing interest, why any woman can't seem to find the right guy. IMO I think only a small % of women are actually sincere about their intentions, and the rest are more or less comfortable with the yo-yo experience of men giving them attention.

Some people, including me, only date one person at a time.
Some people date several people at once. I don't really like dating people who are dating others, because I'm not much for playing the sorts of games you have to play to come out ahead most of the time. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not my bag.
I don't either. It's like lying. I'd rather tell the truth 'cause I'm too lazy to try to remember who I said what to. 
I'm tired of games and if I'm talking to someone here it's only them who I'm messaging no one else.
That said, if I have only gotten to the message stage, I may be chatting with more than one person, but as soon as there is a meeting and it goes well, I tell the other guy I'm not into multi-tasking.
I think a lot of people are in such a hurry, they don't want to wait in case they miss someone.
Pfft. I was looking for something I wanted to last, so waiting to see if he was the one wasn't a problem for me.
As far as the titled question; Now that i am off the fishing scene, 3 or 4. When I was looking, maybe twice that. I think it has to do with whether or not you have a picture up. When i first came on POF I had a picture and I got a lot more, then when I took it off, I got a lot less.
I don't know if it's the same for guys. I think guys are more visual and more women would message a giuy without a picture if they liked his profile.

A short profile needs a long message to see if we have anything in common that makes it worth continuing on. I don't like to drag emails on and on so if we don't meet in person relatively soon I'll pass again. Basically, I could be in the email stage with several guys but the one who meets and shows we have chemistry in person is the one who will win and I'll have to pass on the others. I consider emails to be very impersonal and I get a much better feel for the guy in person. I don't speak for all women but maybe you should try sending good detailed messages and meeting in a neutral place relatively early, before someone else beats you to it. | |

Posted: 8/7/2009 6:32:46 AM | Women in particular get solicited a lot on such sites and I say that they should take there time and weed off the (insert anything here) that constitute the bulk of the messages they receive. The only thing that rub the back of my neck are the ones who will date multiple person at the same time: try one, if he or she doesn't meet your expectation, then move to the next; one at the time.
Personally, I receive tons of messages per week for various reasons, most are for the forums. I do not initiate any and only accepted twice in 6 years a direct invitation to date.

Stats would include how many e-mails you received, how many you replied to, how many you read/deleted and how many you initially sent. I think the last would be especially helpful to the women, I think women would be more likely to respond to someone who sends out fewer letters as a opposed to someone who carpet bombs anyone within 25 miles or less then 3 years older then him.

Doesn't mean we date a lot or are on a prowl, it means only that we message a lot with a lot of people for various reasons.

I'm just wondering because I just got an account here and was talking to a women who finally responded to my first message. Everything was going great and she finally asked me if I wanted to me. We exchanged phone numbers and were talking for a bit on the phone because I wanted to get know her just a little bit more before actually meeting her face to face. I just got a message today from telling me she met some other guy on here and they were talking while we were at the same time. Is it worth having an account here ? I'm tired of games and if I'm talking to someone here it's only them who I'm messaging no one else.
Quit being selfish. You are trying to paint that girl for a cheat but she sounds very honest and straightforward, she didn't deceive you. While you were busy trying to figure out wether you like her or not she was widening her net, ain't nothing wrong with that. Next time if you see someone you like zero in faster and make them know that they got you for sure.

I'm a little surprised because I expected more (not in a stuck up way), but I guess I have strict messaging filters set up so helps to weed some people out.
If I ever got like 30 messages a day there is no way I could ever get to them all or try to get to know someone, so I suppose it works out? | |

In regrds to the topic, welcome to the world of the internet. Almost anyone your talking to will likely be talking with someone else as well. I had my fair share of losing. I was talking to a girl for a while she than asked for my number but I wasn't really ready for a relationship at the time so I told her I think the emails will do for now. I haven't heard from her after that again, so she is likely with someone now, but I don't blame her. She was likely talking to both of us and ditched me when she seen I wasn't ready to committ to much. I blame myself for losing her. This is the world of internet dating, you have to be the guy she wants, better everyone else. | |

A friend of mine signed up, Blond, younger than I am (and I think hotter) and guys must have agreed, she closed her account because she got over 200 emails in two days. It was rather insane there was like 13 pages of emails. There was no way she could keep up or even attempt to respond to them all. I saw her account I know she was tellin the truth I about fell over. Hahahaha.

I never get emails becuase I am hidden but if I was looking I'd still be hidden and go fishing for the man I want so......

Not to contradict but lessons can be discouraging as you can see and time tends to catalyze our critical requirements =)
Anyways, there are all types out there who will eat you alive, this is nothing.
I can understand why you question her disclosing competition. Was this really innocent honesty, to bask in her new found popularity, or was it to antagonistically entice.
You won't be missed if you politely disappear by the sounds of things so you can quit while you are ahead to surprise than reinforce if this actually works for her. Why gamble to determine if they a flirt who take flight at the whim of any new adventure? What would she say if you wrote back thanking her while indicating that you have found some one else? Not many play silly games, thank goodness.
If she isn't tripping over her feet to learn more about you than others, find some one who is more anxious than complacent or giddy. Go to some one else's arms that are open not crossed deciding. They usually know if you are what they want before you even do so you can't lose what you never had anyway.
See all the profiles here? Lots of different types sizes colors and flavors to choose from. Don't pick the dispassionate or antagonistic. Why get burned standing in line to reinforce their interviews. Don't get down when they try and strike the ego. Let them attack some one else's =)
The vast, vast majority of girls are really, really nice so not to worry (as are most women =) but I wouldn't reinforce anything that was unsuitable or unstable from the get go. Never pursue anyone who does not have the potential to be exactly what you want or this will only waste each others time .
As a by far greater lesson, if they seem like they are hiding something or insecure, they usually are!
