Serena Williams had the tennis gods on her side today. Elena Denentolia who should have won loses by a milimeter. Best women's tennis match ever.

Sorry, I did the same thing on the Roddick match. I didn't even think! Just posted.
However there may be a small earthquake in San Diego tommorrow when I found out Roddick beat Murray! LOL.

What i want to know is how come the Wiliams sisters have always managed to get on opposite sides of the draw. This is the 4th time that they are in the final so i am starting to think it is fixed. I think there is a draw as to who gets to play who but i may be wrong so correct me if i am.

They've played each other 21 times, and 9 of them were in the finals. So 9 times they were on opposite sides of the draw, and 12 times on the same side.

Roddick will have to be serving lights out and hitting huge forehands to beat Murray. He will need to come out swinging and balls must be falling in. Murray is the more talented player but Roddick has been in these situations before, if there is any nerves in Murray at the beginning at all, Roddick needs to exploit that to the fullest. Otherwise, Murray will roll him in 3 or 4.

Wimbledon TV ratings have been dismal. A Williams sisters final would be great for tennis. Fed versus Murray will be a huge story everywhere else except in America. Andy would be much better for ratings but Murray and Fed will definitely make for a better tennis match.

Coming to you drunk from sunny San Diego, Ca. LOL

Wow!!!!! Good for Roddick! I didn't see the match because I am celebrating my country's indepenance by attending a Tea Party to protest my government's attempt to take my independance away. But I just read the score!!!! Woowhoo!

Federer wins on Sunday no matter how many sets it goes to...IMHO.

HAPPY FOURTH MY FELLOW YANKS!

Murray got beat and I am gutted! To be fair Roddick deserved it though and I hope he somehow manages to beat Fed in the final although I can't see it happening....
Being half yank I wish you all a happy 4th of July.

Roddick could win in straight sets?

Really? Then why didn't he?

Wanna know why he didn't? Because he was playing Roger Federer.

The same guy who couldn't break Andy's serve for over 4 hours. Yet...when it was on the line...with Roddick serving....he did it.

Winning close with all of the pressure on seperates the men from the boys.

He's the best i've ever seen.

For sure Roger is the best and it will be a long time before someone breaks his records.
My hat is off to Roddick for taking it to 5 sets. He didn't let the emotions get to him.
I wish I had seen the match but vacation calls and one must answer to vacation!

That was about as good as I've ever seen Roddick play. Except for the second set tie breaker that is. Larry Stefanki is a genius. It shouldn't be surprising Roddick came in with the perfect game plan, but mad props to Andy for being able to execute.

- He was serving huge! And for whatever reason, unlike other times they've played, Fed seemed to be guessing wrong on the placement.
- His backhand down the line was money. Never seen him hit that shot so well, let alone during such an important match. I think everybody was surprised by his down the line drive.
- He was going toe to toe against Fed during forehand exchanges. Especially on the run, his forehand was very dependable. Usually, when he's playing Fed, Roddick looks like he's constantly scrambling, like he's continually guessing wrong as to where the ball is going. On Sunday, even if he guessed wrong, more times than not he got the ball in play, usually, if I remember correctly, by relatively high percentage cross court forehands. Heavy ones!
- Roddick does NOT have natural net instincts. Lots of times, he comes in and just seems to be standing in the middle hoping for a weak reply he can easily put away. But on Sunday, he came in and really closed in tight to cut off the angle and placed himself in a high percentage position. Would like to see stats on points won at net for Andy, I'm sure it was the highest he's ever managed against Fed.

Personally, I didn't think Fed played all that great. Roddick was dictating play. He was hitting huge like the Roddick of old, stalking the baseline instead of standing 10 feet behind it and hitting clay courter style looping forehands. He was hitting his forehands with deadly intent, always looking to move in. Sounds easy but he was doing it well enough that if not for that bricked high backhand volley in the tie-breaker, he could have won in 3 or 4 sets. Who would have thought? Then again, Fed missed a couple of very routine (for him) forehands in the first set that would have allowed him to take it 6-4.

Great champions win even when they're not playing 100% and that's what Fed did. When Fed was dominating, he would win all his matches when playing this way. There were times when Nadal and Murray should have beaten him when Fed was spanking everybody like nobody in open era tennis has spanked the tour. Just by being Fed, he would have 2 games a set in the bag even before the coin toss. Not really any more, but Fed is adjusting. I think for a while he was unraveled by the fact people didn't fear him as much, but he's adjusting and maybe relishing this new challenge.

I didn't mind the thought of Roddick winning, but I'm not a huge Sampras fan, and just wanted the GOAT issue put to rest. Quite simply, Fed won the 15th Grand Slam in the most competitive era in tennis. Laver won two grand slams but at a time when 3 of the 4 slams were on grass and the competition was fractured and not as a good anyway. Great final. Kudos to Roddick. Bow down to Fed. I should really attend the US Open. Should be a doozy.
