I would go in a heartbeat! How fantastic to camp somewhere new and a place off the beaten track. It sounds delightful...

Another time for sure (cannot make it this particular weekend)

Have fun everyone. Miss me a little ok? (those that know me) (or say you did)

Nice to see some more local people signing up now.
Powell River hospitality is legendary and I'm happy to see I'll have some reinforcements to keep our reputation.

Bonnie and Debra,
Sorry that you can't make it. Your wit, charm and humour will be missed, as will the hugs.

MonaLecia.
Okay Belgian chocolate it will be.

Hey Mountain Lion, nice you are able to join us after all.
Hmmm, will you and your guests be sleeping in your "Yellow Submarine" again?

At least my tail feathers are starting to grow back in after that mauling at Mosquito Creek.

I'm not counting sleeps yet, four weeks to go!

I am coming from the island,.. TOTALLY worth the cost... and for anyone coming from ANYWHERE other than PR the ferry cost is a factor.
At this point I don't have any room but if my teens decide not to come I could take 4 people from Parksville up. I'll keep folks posted. I am also planning on leaving early FRIDAY AM ( catch the 10:10 AM ferry) to make the cost worth it! LOL

Hmmmm REAL Belgian chocolate would be Leonidas pralines ( closest outlet is in Calgary as they are flown in fresh weekly) hint hint nudge nudge BE. MUST be refrigerated... fresh cream you know!

Manon Blancs are THE best!
Cote D'Or are a close second.

Wow a connoisseur of Belgian Choc. You have your work cut out for you B.E. I'm working on another angle to get to P.R. I have 4 weeks to work it out...no worries! Anyone have water wings for me so I don't drown, or a tube, or even a ziplog full of air tied to each arm? Nibble nibble on my hook, come on fishies, where are you!

Oh oh!! What am I getting myself into here?

I was thinking of going to Wal-Mart, Safeway, Quality Foods or Save-On-Foods, but now you connoisseur women have got me worried. I'd better not try to pull the wool over your eyes, lest you tug my tail feathers. I'll have to stop in at the speciality candy store in the mall.

Monalecia, I'm pleased you are working on a solution to get here. C'mon folks a lady needs a ride, let's make it happen!

Now I've been trying to think of a practical means to arrange for some dancing tunes. I've got a great collection so we can dance our butts off, at least until quiet time.

I can burn audio CDs, MP3 CDs or put them on a USB flash drive or even my MP3 player, but my car stereo isn't designed for any of those. So does anyone have a portable music player.

Might be handy to have some lights too.

I can bring a 12-volt deep cycle battery if it helps.

Let's hope you too can arrange carpooling.

I'm sorry to say but there will not be any Belgian chocolate for the ladies after all.

We are camping and though some of us will have some mighty fine accessories to provide creature comforts, we'll have to improvise and make do with what's available. Dark chocolate is pretty good too.

BE, tsk tsk. No wonder you are on an online dating site. One never disappoints the ladies...before one has them pitch their tents at least. Mums the word until the tents are all up and the sleeping bags unpacked - then the surprise (not Belgian) but something that makes up for it...and everyone is happy. Oui? Oui?

That's why you should NEVER have any expectations, and you won't be disappointed. Then everything is a surprise in life. That's my belief, so substitute choc. is great (it's the caffeine women crave, not the smoothness) and any choc. is good, isn't it ladies?

Hey, roykva,
that is generous of you.

Bruce told me that firewood is $5 for a generous wagon-load (you-haul delivery) and we intended to take up a collection for that but think we can pitch in to cover your chainsaw expenses.

How much wood? I dunno, enough for two evenings. Bring what you care to haul and if we need more we'll get some from Bruce.

Less than 3 wks. and no ride, but working on another angle It's Powell River or BUST and I'm going to make plans for two nights!!! Have been offered accommodations and sharing of camp equip to cook, only thing left is getting there. I'll swim if I have to, but hoping not to scare the real doing that. Send positive energy this way, and I'll ride it to P.R. first class on it's jet stream!

I can't miss meeting some of the mainlanders, that would be such a shame!

Not sure if I can make it right now as I am trying to find a way to transport my gear so I can take my bike instead of a very thirsty overheight truck. I'll do my best to give advance notice If I can't make it.

Aww, I am sorry to learn some people have had to back out and others might not be able to.

MonaLeica. It is nice to see how determined some are to make it over though.

I've got dance tunes lined up for the evenings.

Regarding the short side trip to Inland Lake to bicycle the 13 km trail (on Saturday) you can view some recent photos of the trail here:

http://s832.photobucket.com/albums/zz246/lens2screen/Inland%20Lake%20Trail%20Powell%20River/

(all of the above URL needs to fit on one line). There is a "slideshow" option there.

If you are bringing your bicycles I suggest also a small pack for refreshments along the way.

Ferry Costs - the costs for the ferry are high for everyone.

BC Ferries has a special card, the BC Ferries Experience™ Card and Coast Card, that can be used for reduced rates on the ferries. You must purchase a prepaid card of at least $75 and then use the card to pay for your trip. The fare you pay with the card is less than what you would pay without it.

You must purchase at least a $75 card, but I suggest that you look at bcferries website and figure out the cost of the reduced fare and then buy a card with that amount on it. Your card will be empty at the end of your trip, but you will have extra money in your pocket.

I'm not sure if you have to buy the card in advance or if you can buy it at the ticket booth when you are travelling. The website will have all the information.

The card can be used from Comox or Horseshoe Bay.

I haven't decided if I can go to this event or not, but I would be interested in know if anyone else from the Island would like to share ferry costs.

If we can get 4 people to share one car the ferry cost would be about $36 per person and then we could pitch in another $10 for gas for the driver. So, transportation from Comox/Courtenay would be about $45.

Is anyone else interested?

Hello;
I'll be leaving Langley between 5-6 pm. and have no idea on the travel time.
On the bike there is no waiting, just traffic.
How late is the campsite open? Do they mind late arrivals?

First I have some good news.
Announced in today's local newspaper, effective July 15th for the Westview (Powell River) - Comox route, BC Ferries is increasing the fuel rebate from 5% to 8%, so you'll see a tiny reduction in the fare.

*******

courtenaygal. ^^

I agree with you, the Experience Card is a good way to save some money. I saved $7.30 on the crossing to Comox.. The banks are giving squat for interest so it makes sense to put some money on the card and get significant savings when you travel.

*******

one002. ^^

I have no idea how long you need to drive from Langley to Horseshoe Bay, but you'll want to consider carefully the two following schedules.

http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/vasc-current.html
Sailing time to Langdale is 40 minutes.

Then there is 90 minutes driving time across the Sechelt Peninsula to Earls Cove

http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/sepr-current.html
Sailing time to Saltery Bay is 50 minutes.

Then you have approximately one hour driving from Saltery Bay ferry terminal to the campground.

The campground gates are locked from 10 pm to 6 am. No entry or exit during that time.

So you have to calculate back from the 10 pm deadline, which means you need to catch no later than the 7:40 pm sailing from Earl's Cove.

If it were up to me I'd catch the 4:30 pm sailing which means being at the Horseshoe Bay terminal before 4:00 pm.

Perhaps you can leave home & work earlier? Hope you can make it.
