So I appreciate the females coming out in favor of horror movies. The comparisons between "guy movies" and "girl movies" I appreciate. The same mentality does apply to the wide horror genre as well: guys (mostly) like gore and violence and hard pounding action, women (largely) like suspense and terror and maybe an exotic thrill.
Like zombies and vampires: guys largely relate to zombies. They're crude and slow and their hygiene sucks, and they travel in packs and don't talk much. Zombie movies are "guy" movies, vampire movies are "girl" movies. Vampires are usually sexy exotic guys who are (inexplicably) filthy rich, sharp dressers, and appear in your bedroom with a need to gnaw on your throat until you pass out.

Just a little laugh to follow the long rant...and again, this is in general, not universal. There's a difference.

I love horror movies, but they dont scare me, I really love psych thrillers the most tho, I have shelf after shelf of thriller/horror/psych books and real crime books......I think im a fairly sane, well rounded woman, no cathy bates here...some of my friends love horror, some dont.....we are all different,

I also love having a son of the age to go watch cartoon films....as someone said earlier.....Up.....what a lovely, funny, sad film :)

Yeah I think Ive scared off a few off, we were friends for a while and they came over and seen my dvd collection. Pretty much a wall of shelves with nothing but 150+ horror movies from around the world from the 80s to today. But I think I scare them off cause Im the quiet type and those always the ones that go on a killing spree.

I can't help it if thats the only type of movies I can enjoy and watch many times over. Jokes get dull, fighting scenes get boring, but gore is forever. When people on the internet say "that movie where 54 school girls jump in front of a subway train", without having to think I know off the top of head that its Suicide Club.

You would be shocked how many times people have said that and then they notice Im the complete opposite of what the movies and music I love and the lyrics I write would suggest.

Im not sure what my ex girlfriends where looking for or what they saw in me but Im just being my real self.

Love horror movies! One of my fav genres of movies out there!

The thrill of getting scared while watching a movie at home or in theaters is fricken great...also getting scared while playing a game is equally fun.

It's not a red flag for me butttt when I find a guy who doesn't like them...I'm thinking oh :-( lol.

This is an issue? My horror movie collection takes up 3 shelves, and I have 3 "rom coms" total... 50 First Dates, the 40 Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers ******. It wouldn't be a red flag but if he DIDN'T like horror I wouldn't be dating him.

Horror films = MY FAVORITE!!

There is a French horror film called Martyrs that is insanely amazing! Best horror film I've seen in a while. I love Asian horror films as well. "I Saw the Devil" is amazing as well. Give me a guy that loves horror films as much as I do and we may be a match made in heaven..... Well, given that we have other things in common. lol

yesterday was Friday the 13th...so my son and I were going to go to the movies to see a scary movie. But no good scary movies out. We turned to net flix.
I am not a fan of the rip em up flesh movies. Just not my thing. Give me 'What Lies Beneath'
or I see dead people..wait that wasnt the name?? 6th Sense! Give me a story line and scare that crap out of me.
Favorite scary movie line of ALL time....?

Horror movies aren't a red flag per se, but in conjunction with being in possesion of weapons, talking about violence in one form, or another (almost constantly) and about 25 other factors, it can be indicative of the likelihood of an abusive relationship pending.

I've been known to watch some really bad films, practically frame by frame to get inspiration for costumes, or even a couple of straight lifts for customers into the Elvis convention thing. I'm guessing the mentality behind watching horror movies can be as diverse as the mentality behind watching anything else.

If there's an intellectual level behind screen violence, or a story to be told, I'll watch it. One of the most disturbing films I've ever watched is Hotel Rwanda, rated at 'U' - the most horrific scene left everything entirely up to the viewer's imagination which had way more impact than a graphic representation.

Gratuitous violence I cannot sit through, however. I've been told little bits about the Saw movies and it makes me worry that an abusive mentality might be viewed by some as merely entertaining. I think a lot of people simply don't understand the psychology behind abuse and how extreme behaviour is supported by a tolerance to everyday acceptance of less overt abuse in our societies.

In short, it depends on the movie and the mentality.

I can appreciate how someone might have a very low tolerance to horror, though. My mother, having had her formative years in war time Germany objected to Tom and Jerry, not to mention water pistols. I used to think it was funny that she couldn't tolerate the cat and mouse antics, but then did everything I possibly could to avoid my daughter's exposure to violence and abuse, including...no water pistols until she was probably way past old enough to understand. She laughed at me for that. :)

Certainly, not having a TV appeared to have an impact upon her. I noticed when other kids came round to play, there appeared to be a marked difference in violent/aggressive play and also imaginative play which also appeared to correlate with parental attitude to exposure.

Sorry, I rambled a bit there. Thinking aloud stuff.

^^^ Same here! Even the "mildly scary, fun" category of horror films, my favorite (The Thing, Poltergeist, Shaun, etc.). I get guys who initiate contact only to advise me that they dislike scary movies, dislike movies in general, or "havn't seen a movie in years". Then they can't understand why I won't meet them. Oh, brother!

Watching the gruesome dismembering of a human or sadistic torture of another is not entertainment. I can see some teenagers liking this tripe but adults? No way.

I don't like torture porn. Didn't realize there was a name for it. I even have trouble with Seven, a great movie. I suppose my discomfort is in knowing that deranged psycho killers are really out there, vs. purely fictional zombies, ghosts, aliens, and swamp monsters. At Universal Studios (here near Hollyweird), every year the theme park does detailed mazes for Halloween Horror Nights based, most often, on popular films. I love, LOVE certain ones (La Llorona, The Thing, classic monsters) but Saw and certain others are just stressful: human butchering and torture, with pumped in "blood" aroma. Ugh. I usually suffer through them but they aren't fun for me. I'd rather do The Mummy again, or the backlot.

On the other hand, I have friends who enjoy torture porn. They are nice people!

I dont watch horror movies. Stuff like that SAW...omg.. I dont get it. Why would I want to watch that??

Horror movies give me nightmares. I dont even watch the commercials for them and I dont like to listen to them so if I were at home with you Id have to leave the house. But, that's just me. I turn the channel on the tv even for the Horror Night at Universal Studios commercials.. lol

I do however enjoy suspense movies. I did watch the Sixth Sense and Perfect Stranger.. Loved both of them. Loved the plot etc.. but I dont watch gore or horror. So, for me it would end.. if He had to watch them all the time.

Red flag?? Im not sure.. not that he's pyschoo but that I wouldnt want the compatibility with him for his sake because Im not ever going to be into it. Hard limit for me. Seems silly to most I guess.. but I just wont do it...ever.
