Helping out foreign countries, whose natural resources our ancestors plundered and whose peoples we left destitute and chaotic.
Er......which countries did the British 'plunder'?
If you are referring to the Empire, not only did we help those countries by trading with them, but we left most countries in a far better shape than when we first went there...if any have experienced problems since, then it the fault of that country, and not ours.
If you ruled the world, what would it look like?

Posted: 10/7/2009 5:21:13 PM | | I agree with Zeegary 100% percent, just take a look at Zimbabwe (Rhodesia)for example, it was the richest country in Africa in the late 70s early 80s then it became independent and went to the ground and now has some of the lowest life expectancy rates in the world. I have often said if the British Empire was still in full force there would be less problems than what there is now. | |

Posted: 10/7/2009 11:09:13 PM | I would create a one world government and one-unit monetary system, under permanent non-elected hereditary oligarchists who self-select from among their numbers in the form of a feudal system as it was in the Middle Ages. In this One World entity, population will be limited by restrictions on the number of children per family, diseases, wars, famines, until 1 billion people who are useful to the ruling class, in areas which will be strictly and clearly defined, remain as the total world population.
There will be no middle class, only rulers and the servants. All laws will be uniform under a legal system of world courts practicing the same unified code of laws, backed up by a One World Government police force and a One World unified military to enforce laws in all former countries where no national boundaries shall exist. The system will be on the basis of a welfare state; those who are obedient and subservient to the One World Government will be rewarded with the means to live; those who are rebellious will simple be starved to death or be declared outlaws, thus a target for anyone who wishes to kill them. Privately owned firearms or weapons of any kind will be prohibited.

I'd probably start off all idealistic and filled with good intentions but before 12 months was up I would have probably run everything into the ground and be splayed out in a sequestered mansion somewhere, guzzling pearls and diamonds and sleeping with coked up models who I had bedazzled with my monies and power.
I'd no doubt be dead from an array of alcohol, drug and sexual related diseases before my reign hit its 18 months mark. Yup. I would be a truly abhorrent world leader.

But you can bet, there will be someone who thinks they can do better. It's the way of the world sadly, so saying if you did? Is pretty pointless. Leave it to some other mug, they all end up being overthrown or murdered anyway!  | |
