There's even remotes to close your blinds. When will the remote come out to get todays kids dressed so they don't have to move? Not being sarcastic but hey it's the truth. | |

Ha ha, my friend--who is over 10 years younger than I am--used to babysit the bartender at our volleyball facility.
The kids today don't know you can use the key of the car to OPEN it. And most have never driven a shift. | |

Posted: 6/25/2009 10:13:03 AM | You know you're getting old when you are out somewhere and see an attractive guy looking over only to realize he's looking at your daughter, not you. Yeah, that's a tough blow, let me tell you.
Also:
-when you've gotten a babysitter for the night so you can go out and do something and then realize all you really want to do is stay home and sleep.
-when you're watching tv with your kids and someone slides into a wood-floored room wearing nothing but socks, a shirt and tightie-whities and they have no effin clue it's a reference to anything else.
-when your 4 year old sees a public payphone and acts like she's just seen a unicorn..."Look Mommy, it's a phoooooone! Right there on the street!"
-when you realize gas prices seem to utterly obscene primarily because you remember paying 75 cents a gallon.
-when you dye your hair to get rid of those pesky little grays and two days later they're ba-aaack!
-when your kids think you're lying about the travesty that was "New Coke". Must be an urban legend. | |

When the songs you used to listen to in High School and Jr High are now on the "oldies" stations.
all we had were rotary dial phones, and when kids see them today they dont know how to use them.
when VCR's came out - and BetaMax
and when there was no internet.
about remotes, some functions are just not available without a remote. I have 2 things that the remote has more buttons than the appliance, so you HAVE to use the remote to do certain things.
(lol about Def Leppard. My kids were born in Sheffield so they definitely got to know who they are). | |

There were mostly rowdy 19-24 year olds so it was interesting, but I knew I was getting old when I found that I was going around picking up after people without even thinking about it. | |

Posted: 6/25/2009 12:39:36 PM | OMG, I can remember the premier of the original Star Wars! I was quite young, but I was hooked just from the trailers.
We went to a walk-in theater just west of the Brookhurst and Ball Rd. intersection, in Anaheim. There was an Arby's right there, to keep us alive thru the wait!
BTW, has anyone else noticed Heavy Metal on the fricken Oldies stations???

A & W and KFC had car hops bring your food to you on a tray hooked to your car.
Gas was 23 cents a gallon.
Pay Phone was a nickle.
No one used seat belts or helmets to ride a bike.

We were watching Gordon Ramsey (the Hell's Kitchen and other cooking shows host) and he was dropping uncensored Fbombs all over the place. She and I had a chat about how when I was her age, my friends and I would rant about how "stupid" (we had kids' vocabularies, after all) it was that people couldn't talk "like real people" and swear on TV; we looked forward to a brighter future in which our blue tongues would no longer have to be holstered.
Well, we weren't careful in what we wished for...... lol
Further to the Star Wars thing: I grew up in a small, remote town where movies played no longer than 3 days max, 1 showing a day, in the only theatre. It was beyond my comprehension how it could happen at the time, but I knew people who stood in line to watch it twice!!!!!!!! | |

I was one of the people AT the midnight premier of Transformers (got brought for my birthday), and was literally MAYBE one of three people over 30 (let alone over 40) in the entire theater...
loved it though :)

Posted: 6/25/2009 5:24:00 PM | 1. I was at a crowded club recently and I accidentally and perhaps carelessly bumped into this huge guy. {in his 20s}. It was definitely my fault . He apologizes profusely and says im very sorry sir. A few years ago he would have threatened to kick my a-- or at least threaten to.
2 My older cousin who I always looked up to asked me for advice the other day.
3. I recently saw a really great girl with a fantastic personality who was drop dead gorgous {about 24 years old}. Instead of going for her I attempted to set her up with my nephew. I did ask if she had a much older sister or aunt though.
4. I walk into a room to get something and forgot what i came in there for by the time I walk in. I then proceed to walk back into the original room i was in to remember what i wanted and have no idea .
5. My friend and I call each other every time a famous person from our childhood dies.
We spoke 3 times between today and yesterday. | |

Seriously, I do this ALL the time. If I go to get a bottle of water, I'll wander out to the living room and just end up doing something else, then something else, then head back to my bedroom and much later think, Hmm where is that damn water?? | |

When we were younger, it would have mattered to us how we looked and who all was around us and what they were saying. We watched like outsiders while other people did that stuff (read younger). We aren't that old, but everyone was just really polite to us...."sorry ma'am, excuse me ma'am, etc." It was actually a nice, relaxing day. Maybe getting older isn't so bad  | |
