There is no boogey man and ny "fear" of Christ is not fear. It is a revence and respect for the One who created me. If you read the Bible you would see just exactly how much destruction satan IS responsible for.There are consequences for sin. | |

Disease comes from microbes & virus etc: "Living" organisms...
& the bible clearly states that god created ALL living things. Therefore either god is an evil **stard, or he isn't the creator.... which one is it?
& you first claim there is no boogeyman/satan, so you can't blame evil on him....
& then you say he does exist & go on to pretty much claim he apparently controls the weather in New Orleans & the Carribean, & is directly responsible for Plate Tectonics etc?
I take it you don't work in the medical or other scientific field? | |

Why doesn't Pegasus neigh all that much these days? Nor do we hear any recent tales of Medusa turning people to stone. How come Thor doesn't swing his hammer about, or Vishnu cook a nice curry, like chicken madras maybe? [sorry, I'm a bit too lazy to research Vishnu's less mundane attributes]
The reason could possibly be that these figures simply don't exist in the real world and never have. They are products of fertile historical imaginations. Figures invented to populate entertaining folk tales in an age before Plasma TV's and Dolby Digital Surround Sound. For young Jewish kids sat around the hearth listening to their parents tell stories of the Red Sea Parting, It was probably the best entertainment available - equivalent to a modern child being allowed to stay up late and watch Terminator 2. Unfortunately, centuries of retelling and embellishment by successive generations have lent Biblical myths a spurious aura of profundity and authenticity.
Perhaps in another couple of thousand years The Lord of the Rings will occupy a similar place in the public's affections and people will be bemoaning Gandalf's paucity of recent pronouncements. | |

The conscience is the most basic way God speaks to all people. When one is open to hearing more then just what is right and wrong, then prayer and meditation are good methods for that. | |

So, if only good things come from god and god created everything, where did Satan come from? Where did evil come from? Where did sin come from? Someone intelligent being had to have created them.
God doesn't speak to us anymore because he has a thousand preacher telling us what he has said to them and told them to pass it on to us. Especially telling them to ask for for more money. I love the Galleger sketch about god being able to do everything but manage money. | |

His pride caused Hhim to want to be God and he wanted to be worshipped as God,and was thrown from Heaven.The first sin was disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Satan tricked Adam and Eve into not trusting what God had told them about the tree of life,knowledge of good and evil.Just like the devil to talk you into doing something then condemn you for doing it. God does speak.You have to be willing to hear. These so called preachers you mention; just cuz they claim to be working on God's behalf, don't mean they are. Some are. The Bible tells us taht there will be false teachers in the last days, the spirit of anti christ will rule many, that people will become lovers of themselves. There are always going to be those that take advantage of people. Not everyon is like that. You shall know them by their fruit. A good tree bears good fruit.A bad tree bears bad fruit. | |

It seems a little odd to me that people are going by a book that is centuries old (the Bible), which was written by men, many of which claimed to either have God spoken to them, or witnessed miracles so large in proportion that if a person were there, they could not deny the existance of God.
I used to say almost the exact same thing you did before God spoke to me in His own way, and I understood the truth of scripture. That's another topic, but I found it interesting.
. . .then why is it that God does not speak to man now?
God can and does speak to man now. Maybe not in the direct way that He has in the past, but He speaks to man all the same. There are a number of ways He does. The Bible for example is described as:
Hebrews
4:12"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
The word of God is living. How does it all work? I dunno no one does. I can attest to having a question or needing guidance in life many, many times and the answer jumping out at me from the pages of the Bible. It's happened way too many times to be a coincidence.
It's also important to keep in mind that God doesn't have to communicate with man at all. He's the creator and sustainer of the universe, and He doesn't go around parting seas and rivers for people every time someone doubts His existence. Even if He did, there are people who still wouldn't believe in Him. How long did it take the early Israelites to forget about Him/doubt Him even after He did the miracles in their own time for them to witness? It's of no consequence at all to God whether humans exist or not; we're here because He wants us to be.

"Why do you complain against Him That He does not give an account of all His doings? Indeed God speaks once, Or twice, {yet} no one notices it. In a dream, a vision of the night, When sound sleep falls on men, While they slumber in their beds, . ."
If you want people to worship you, why would you not make yourself known...besides words in an ancient, perhaps unaccurate book?
He does make Himself known, but only to those with eyes to see who are willing to look. Life itself and all of creation is testimony that He exists.
Worshipping an invisible entity that never talks, or gives any signs of his/her presense seems like a game to me.
In a sense it's ironic: things exist in our universe. Did they create themselves? That's impossible. You can't get something can't come from nothing, and nothing that exists can create itself. We are surrounded by signs of our Creator even when we are asleep. Signs are everywhere, all of the time. Unless of course, you believe consciousness and everything else in the universe besides just "popped up" out of nowhere one cold day in nothing out of nothing. | |

You see folks! That's why I call my "nothingness shook with the realization of being and said simply I AM" a heretical theory.
The prophet Amos said when the people are saying and doing the following...
Hear this, you who trample the needy
and do away with the poor of the land,
saying,
When will the New Moon be over
that we may sell grain,
and the Sabbath be ended
that we may market wheat?"—
skimping the measure,
boosting the price
and cheating with dishonest scales,
buying the poor with silver

Then according to Amos what happened was
The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD,
"when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. "

So to me that is one reason why God won't speak to folks.
The proverbs of Solomon say "He that is kind to the poor lendeth to his maker." So I caution you that any so called christian ministry that claims to hear from God and isn't showing significant can't hide it kindness to the poor is dishing out false prophecy for itching ears to fill their coffers. (This gets tricky too since many ministries that appear to be helping the poor should be investigated and charged with abuses.)
But then most of you folks already knew that. So in conclusion hearing from God requires alittle house work and please make sure after the house work is finished that the ask, seek, knock portion is completed with an answer or the house ends up seven times dirtier than it was in the first place. | |

I've often said that if in a thousand years someone were to dig up an "Elvis Is King" hardcover book, it would probably be construed into Elvis being revered as some holy man who was worshipped as ruler of the world and performed amazing miracles, et al.... and thus a new religion would come into the fold. Add a little spice for taste, stir until just the right consistency.... eat and enjoy.

Posted: 3/18/2008 11:47:20 AM | | G-d speaks all around me... in nature, in people, in the fact that despite all the evil...we as a whole, manage to survive and plod onwards. i believe that my inner strength is spiritually derived from my connection with the "whole". the problem is when i get my own ego in the way of the whole. if my ego is not tended to my liking, then i think there is no G-d. so, i speak to G-d first and not wait for some sign or omen. for me, G-d or Higher Power, is a part of me and more important i am part of HP. it is connectedness. they say G-d speaks though people so that in todays' complex world, we are surrounded and do not have just "one" book to debate over or disregard. we have many sources for our spiritual expression. | |

Not to mention the advent of Newtonian physics and the paradigm of the mechanical clockwork universe which would rob 'God's speech' of any real merit anyways. | |

That, after all, was the usual type of locale & scenario in which he was most likely to start "speaking" to people. | |

Posted: 3/22/2008 12:14:28 PM | OK. Here's my take on this. God DOES still speak but it's very subtle. God isn't going to scare people with apparitions of Himself to "speak" to people.
God speaks not directly but through other people in your life who care about you and give you words of support and encouragement. God speaks through people around you, such as the kindly police officer giving you help during an emergency (happened to me on several occasions. Thank you angels! ) God also speaks nonverbally in the hug from a loving parent, friend, child, or relative who loves you.
I do not believe that God speaks through any kind of apparition/hallucination during a wakeful state, but it is possible for people to experience dreams that relate to God's love. I had a dream once during a very difficult time in my life, in which Jesus held me and comforted me. I also had a dream of a long deceased grandmother giving me encouragement. When a person is asleep he is closer to the spiritual realm and can experience such dreams as I had.
People who claim God speaks directly to them through apparitions are best ignored, such as those who claim to see the Blessed Virgin or have conversations with God while awake.
I also agree with the poster who said God speaks to us through our conscience. Good point. | |

I think this is very true. A very good sign of whether the Holy Spirit really is in a person is how they treat others. Someone who acts with compassion and justice towards those close to them and strangers alike, and especially towards the poor and marginalised, whether a believer or not, shows whether or not they have responded to grace.
Prophetic people also show God acting through them, particularly those who denounce evil and injustice. Again, prophets are not necessarily always someone explicitly religious.
Those who also genuinely follow good conscience are also in a way, following God. | |

What about Martin Luther King? What about Gandhi? The Church, Catholic puts a strangle hold on all new revelation, stating all is finished, now more revelation is possible because the Son of God has sacrificed. Yet, the Bible, itself clearly states that in the latter days the young will dream, dreams and the old will have visions. All truth is of God, whether it is revealed, now, or earlier, by any religion. We have many new religions born of the last few centuries, coming through revelation. Because, the Son of Man sacrifice does not mean God is through with his revelation, only that society is not willing to listen. That the Gospel according to Mary Magdalene was suppressed by the Church, because; to include it would to admit that she was an Apostle of Jesus and perhaps the Rabbi's espoused, which; Jesus clear refers to her as, Jewish terms, in his sayings, or what we have left of his sayings. Those who withhold knowledge are immoral and not of God.
How one tells what is of God, is the test of time. Any religion saying it is the only way is not of God, but of humans. Any religion which accepts you and your belief system is of God. God speaks daily to people and interact in their lives, if they are willing to listen.
The word of God today is this, "Accept one another's differences or perish. Unite your beliefs and find truth. Fail to listen to God and perish! If you have ears listen to the word of God!" Olan | |
