We have some great jogging paths here. You outta get out there it will do you good.. Bad news is you will have to wait until January of February when I will be itching to go..
We have a few months out of the year here where I can enjoy being outdoors.. so I try and make hay while I can.

Know what? They make every wheelchair with black armrests and black seats and seat backs! (except a few grey hospital chairs) BLACK! I have a $3,000 wheelchair, but could I order a different color armrest, seat, or back when I got it? Nope, there aren't any. In summer.. do you know how hot black armrests get? It's a business opportunity waiting to happen, Breath! Maybe you could make covers for the arm rests in different colours? Or detachable coloured parts? Stop biotching about the heat. It's winter here! And I'm a summer girl... But my days of shorty-shorts are behind me. I'm officially too old for Daisy Dukes.

Indeed just what I was thinking myself.. Shall we form a partnership and make a mint? I would have to relocate to a warmer climate to properly market them..

Yes, but will you be wearing short shorts? Otherwise, where is the motivation?
I did my 10K today, but it was way too hot to be enjoyable, aside from the sights along the way, that is.....

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 2:02:23 PM | It's summer in Paradise here in Florida so if I'm not in a bathing suit, it's short shorts, definately. And tank tops. Must have straps, though; the D cups need the support.!
But never wear tube tops or those terry no strap top/shorts combos. Shiver. So old retired Florida lady with chicken legs. Ewww!

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 2:08:32 PM | I just strip off and go skinny dipping! There's a lake 5 minutes from my door! and I have a private spot all my own!! I don't look good with short shorts...no Ball room!! | |

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 2:11:03 PM | I had a pool, glad to be rid of it, had to clean it in this heat!!! And Everyone sat around saying they were too fat to wear a swimsuit . I wish i could stay inside all day, but instead i just change shirts a lot, make extra laundry It used to be it was only this hot from mid july to the end of august, this year it started before the middle of june, I'm ready for another ice age | |

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 2:24:02 PM | | I also to the long distant walking, but here the temp is normally around 90 to 95 and the sun is brutal. There is nothing to do but deal with it, I don't even have an airconditioner. I do wear a large hat when walking to keep the sun off of my head, but that does nothing for the heat. I drink a lot of water, and when it gets really hot out I walk at night. | |

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 2:39:03 PM | I prefer short dresses in the hot weather and yes you might have heard it is actually warming up over here in dear old blighty.... I will don the shorts on saturday night when I go to a swing dance... they are stripey 40's style ones and I have just reduced my waist size enough for them to fit just nicely... at last! No doubt it will be a hot hot sweaty night and I can't wait.... sooo looking forward to it | |

I hear you.
"I just strip off and go skinny dipping! There's a lake 5 minutes from my door!"
I know what bacteria etc. is in our local water. Enough dogs get serious infection from swimming in lakes at these temperature. I am so not putting my precious bits in that water.
It upsets me to see so many people with shorts or not, jogging along major roads..............the exhaust fumes from vehicles create health problems that negate the good jogging does.

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 3:27:10 PM | Short shorts? Lord Almighty, lol! Never have (not even long shorts). Nope. I'm with the Arabs -- think they have something? I do ~~ long, loose, lightweight -- fabric that swishes; nothing that binds anywhere; movement creates air against skin: down your neck, up your sleeves, from hemline up around your body. The air movement dries off the slight "glow" created by the heat, and cools you.
Same for cold showers: you feel cool while you're in, but as soon's you step out, your body tries to "right" your temperature, and works at heating you up again. Tepid is good: doesn't alarm your heat-keeping system. . . . And I hate to say it: same goes for cold drinks. . . . self defeating in the end. But then, most peeps go for quick, regardless of the longer term consequences, lol! -- in either heat management *or* dating. . . .

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 3:52:20 PM | | I do wear shorts, but they aren't the Jessica Simpson kind. My shorts come about 1-2 inches above the knee. I wish we could wear nice shorts to the office. | |
|
| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 4:14:29 PM | The heat is on!
I wear cargo shorts in summer and light colored tee's to keep the sun at bay.
When working out side all day in the heat,I find water the best in cooling off. Just put the hose or water bottle over your head and take a mini shower! And when you think about how hot it is, it it's perfect weather for swimming! Right!
And if you think it's still to hot just tell me how hot it is come February first!
P.S. I do like the ac when I lie my head to rest at night, makes for a good beauty sleep!

Ottawa gets very hot and humid during the summer and while I resisted for as long as I could, I finally gave in last week and bought an air conditioner - I love it!!!
wow! when i lived in Ottawa i couldn't have survived without air conditioning. the city does sit on reclaimed swamp land after all.
of course, then i went and moved down to southwestern Ontario and it's even STEAMIER here!!!!!

when i was house-hunting last summer, my one requirement was central air conditioning!

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 5:21:53 PM | | Here in the South it's been in the high 90's for the last few weeks. With the white hair comes the fair skin along with it. How do I beat the heat? I stay in and work on a painting, or work in the recording studio - iced tea is a 'must have.' | |

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 8:07:25 PM | | Well, since I am doing a summer camp program with kids, I definitely wear "normal" shorts when I wear them. I would anyway and cotton...much cooler...! It's just too dang hot, otherwise! :) | |
|
| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/25/2009 8:40:14 PM | Well, since I am on strike and its been stifling hot walking the picket line, I'm wearing shorty shorts and tops with spaghetti straps.
No problems here. I've always taken care of my body and no one has fallen over in shock yet... LOL.
I can still wear a bikini and plan to do so for many years to come

How do you all stay cool in this hot weather?
1. air conditioner. 2. run chilly water over inside of wrists, closing and opening hands. maybe it's just psychological but it feels like this cools the blood, i can feel the coolness circulate...

| Beating the heat at our age Posted: 6/26/2009 12:57:59 AM | I have lived in Florida for the last 50 years and had a part time lawn business for 33 years...
Soak a light colored t-shirt in water, [except the bottom 4 or 5 inches unless you don't mind your shorts being soaked] and then squeeze out the excess and put it on OVER your sportsbra or whatever kind of top you wear. Of course you might not look as "cute" but it WILL simply give you a major head start to sweating and you will stay cooler longer. I also do this before hopping on my treadmill even though I have a 16 inch industrial fan in front of it. You can of course soak it in cold or icy water if you are feeling particularly frisky.
Of course this /\would be for working or exercising outdoors and probably not a good idea in an air conditioned store or place of business!
You can also try nanotech clothing but probably expensive.

We are opposites.. I turn on my ac during the day.. Otherwise my cats would really be suffering.. They are running around in their fur coats here. At night I open my windows and loggia sliding glass doors to let the night air in.. The loggia is off my two bedrooms so by opening that wall at night I get a nice night breeze ...

Must be nice to live somewhere where the air is clean enough during heat waves to do that. The only thing I hate about summer is the dirty air that makes it difficult to do work outside.
Physically I can wear short shorts, but it is more about way too long winter that makes me need to celebrate non winter by wearing as little as possible.
I have often wondered, if we lived somewhere that has summer all year round would people loose weight so they could wear heat appropriate clothing. Would they exercise more because they weren't hiding in the house from freezing temps?

Here in Paradise; SoFl, the sea breeze keeps the air clean....and so do the hurricanes. : wink:

Yep. Hard to hide the bod when it's too hot to cover up. Plus there's so much to do outside, you'd be hard pressed not to get plenty of excercise. I live outside most of the time. .
