**shakes head slowly at faux pa**

Yeah, Caves . . I knew you'd take it hard.

But I did try and put myself in that situation you suggested . . the one where I consider allowing my son to spend the night with MJ.
I couldn't really get into that character so I looked at it the other way.
I tried to imagine what it would be like to be an innocent person . . . maybe a mega-star with a huge world wide fan base and to have some low life suggest I was a kiddie fiddler. Just how might one escape that?

why hasn't mick jagger, steven tyler, paul mc cartney, the wiggles, farwcett, james packer, pink and every other high profile actor muso been extorted by money hungry parents!!!
Dunno how James Packer got on that list, and the Wiggles . . . pffftt . . probably more danger to the mothers than the children . . hehe.

Tom Cruise
Extortion - David Hans Schmidt, 47, was nabbed Tuesday by FBI agents and is currently being held at the federal detention center in L.A.. He allegedly tried to sell Cruise a large cache of private photos from the actor's November 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes. Schmidt sought more than $1 million for the wedding photos, which were stolen from the actor, said Bert Fields, a Cruise lawyer.

John Travolta
Extortion - A paramedic has been charged over an alleged plot to extort £25 million from John Travolta after his son died of a seizure.
Tarino Lightbourne has pleaded not guilty on charges of attempting to extort and conspiracy to extort from the Pulp Fiction star.

Madonna
Extortion - (OK, not Madonna per se, but maybe she was next) America's "Material Girl," singer Madonna, may have to search for a new Kabbalah guru soon, unless she plans to make pilgrimages to an Israeli prison on visiting day to visit her rabbi. According to reports coming out of Israel, Shaul Youdkevitch and other Kabbalah rabbis are accused of bilking a terminally ill woman out of over $30,000. Many believe this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Jennifer Lopez
Extortion - A convicted murderer was arrested yesterday for attempting to extort $1 million from celebrity couple Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez in exchange for their 2004 wedding video.

OK, none of these guys can sing unless you count Madonna or Travolta (and I don't) . . Extortion? . . sure . . happens all the time.

Does anyone remember that 90's article in New Idea(?) about one of Elton John's jilted lovers? The jilted lover was pissed off and tried to make a point about his predicament in the magazine.
OK, it wasn't extortion as such, but it gives a clue as to what drives some people.
Oh . . yeah . . I used to work with that jilted lover at the time!

And another thing . . why are these modern Iced VoVo biscuits so much smaller than when I was a kid.

You don't come in here for a couple of days and see what you miss......
Sorry to keep you waiting Naamah, re post 95. Yes. Just because someone walks free from court does not mean they are innocent. In fact I'll guarantee you that 98% are guilty and either had a better legal team, friends to lie for them or got off on a minor technicality of law. Thank god we don't have the same level of technicality as the USA with their search procedures etc. I mean if you watch tv shows you will know you can find a body while looking through a house on a drug warrant and can't admit the body as evidence because the warrant says you only had the right to search for drugs!
I was in the Vic Police for 11 yrs and watched many a crook walk away free. I've even had them admit the crime outside of the interview but you can't say that in court.

As for Lindy Chamberlain that was totally different. The main evidence against her was flawed. It was based on a test for blood that was done incorrectly by a forensic scientist and then a chain of NT Police who lied to cover up an error of judgement by one of their own. This came to light after the 3rd enquiry which was done by us in VIC. Once these two things were taken into consideration there was no evidence left against her. Had this been done the first time she would never have gone to court. The press of course are never as quick to report there is no evidence and they are to build their own case. (I worked close to the case if anybody wants the details) Long after my contact with the case I found that Lindy is a friend of someone I have been friends with for 25 years.

As for extortion, well you don't have to be a Packer or a Jackson to have that happen. As a magazine photographer for many years I photographed models in all manner of dress and undress. Over 20 years you build a reputation and make a name. Then one day I get some very strange enquiries from a girl that wants a nude shoot for herself. I was getting sus when this evolved over several calls and many days and just some of the things she said. I checked with some friends and was warned about a girl they had heard stories about but I couldn't confirm she was the same girl. I set up a borrowed video cam to cover the shoot and afterwards put the tape away with the aim of destroying it within a few weeks. Within 2 days of the shoot she began asking for free photos, then money. When I refused the Police came around 2 weeks after the shoot with a report of a sexual assault during the shoot. I gave them the tape to take away and she was shortly thereafter charged with making a false report to police and blackbanned across the industry. I was open about the allegation to all of my regular models and every one of them offered to give evidence for me. Nice to have friends sometime. Interestingly it is not against the law to video someone in VIC without their consent but is against the law in NSW and QLD.

If MJ is to be judged on his habits, of which 'we' don't approve, perhaps the habits of his accusers are also in need of closer scrutiny. This is some background on one of the families who tried to get money out of MJ.

J. C. Penney: alleged assault, litigation and psychiatric analysis

In August 1998 the Arvizo family was detained on a shoplifting charge at a J. C. Penney department store in West Covina, California. According to J. C. Penney, Gavin and Star Arvizo were sent out of the store by their father with an armload of stolen clothes, the family was detained and Janet started a "scuffle" with security officers.

The shoplifting charge was dropped, but Janet filed a lawsuit for $3 million, saying that when she was detained she was "viciously beaten" by three security officers, one of whom was female.[7]

The psychiatrist hired by J. C. Penney to evaluate Janet Arvizo found her to have rehearsed her children into supporting her story and to be both "delusional" and "depressed," although Janet's own doctor found her to be only the latter.[7]

More than two years after the original alleged incident Janet added a further charge that one of the male officers had "sexually fondled" her breasts and pelvis area for "up to seven minutes".[7]

Ultimately the department store settled out of court with the family for $137,000.[7]

(The) father, David Arvizo, visited Neverland several times in 2000, sometimes with the whole family, other times with just the children. After 2000, the accuser's parents were divorced, and his mother had custody over him and his older sister and younger brother. In 2002 David Arvizo pleaded no contest to spousal abuse and in 2003 pleaded no contest to child cruelty.

The accuser's mother, Janet Arvizo, has been identified as the most problematic of the prosecution witnesses. Her behavior of snapping her fingers and staring at the jurors was criticized by jurors after the trial.[12][not in citation given] She was often unresponsive to questioning, even by the prosecution. She seemed to argue defensively over seemingly small issues, such as whether she had a body wax or only a leg wax. She even accused the defense of altering a receipt for the body wax. Questions were often answered with speeches or catch-phrases, rather than answers. She made repeated use of a few catch phrases, such as "It's burned inside my memory", "Money doesn't buy happiness",[13] and testified to the sheriff that Jackson wanted to kidnap her and the family with a "hot air balloon".[14] There were often instances when the court erupted in laughter over her answers.

Hey Faux pa nice to have you on board... It has been said that personal schemas are much easier adjusted by intelligent people.

rsboxer
Not made their public persona so suspect? Not as flamboyant? Not as stupid?

So all of these characteristics render a person a "pedophile"??!!

That being said I have to ask what to you was suspect about MJ's persona? was it that he managed to keep some of his personal life "personal" or could it be that everything we saw was all there was to Michael Jackson and that just isn't enough for some.

Flamboyant? isn't every megastar?

Stupid? Hmmm now that depends on how one defines stupid? observing your posts I would have to say that anything out of your "norm" (as in beyond your comprehension and/or control) is judged by you as stupid.

I actually find this statement

guessing that if you and MJ were in there together.....one of you would have to bend over some. Why don't you contact the show and see if you can get a tape of it to answer "your" curiosity?
.
Lacking severely in intellectual acuity. More so, I find it quite disturbing that this is where you mind has gone oh so quickly!!! When I was thinking "oh how cute" lots of places to hide when playing hide and seek. As a previous poster stated

Somnia made an interesting point about reflecting our own potential for evil in someone else, sure emotions play a big part in forming our opinions but when folk get aggressive I tend to question where they are coming from, people who get aggressive towards gays often turn out to be latent homosexuals themselves, they see their own potential and it scares them, the same goes for people aggressively opposed to violence.

i will remember the man for his wonderful music,
and his many charitable deeds.

let the vultures descend and feed.
long after all the speculation of his life and death have passed the legacy of his music will live forever with us.

surely the passing of a gifted soul well before his time deserves much more than a lot of unmagnanimous comments.

requiescat in pace michael joseph jackson.

I am saddened as many other's are to hear of Michael's exit.
People are quick to judge, but people don't stop to focus on why things end up the way they do. Throw a sausage to a starving dog and he will eat it.
I feel nothing but sympathy for Michael. He grew up way too fast and never had the chance to be a child. So this MAN decides that he will experience childhood as it should be.....sleepovers, games, rides and so on. This man lived in the world of a child.....That was his crime and downfall and unfortunately 'society' didn't see his lifestyle as normal.
Hanging his own child from a balcony is something a CHILD would have done to attract attention.....It was of course a BAD move on his part.
I only hope that the guy can rest in peace and find himself in that land that is far far away.........from the media.

I cant say I was ever that interested in Michael Jackson the person that much, the same way as Im really not that interested in Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

So when I think of Michael Jackson I think of that time in the early to mid 80s when all those huge albums came out. Those were my teenage years and Madonna had her 'Like a Virgin' album,Prince had 'Purple Rain',Bruce Springsteen had 'Born in the USA',Cyndi Lauper had 'Shes so unusual' and Michael Jackson had 'Thriller'.

I dont have any firm opinions on the bloke at all,but if you go by the old adage 'trust the art,not the artist',then Id say the art stands up pretty bloody well!

Though Keith Richards did say something like "The only Art I know is a guy named Arthur"....gotta love Keith Richards!! lol

This has been one of the more interesting threads I have ever seen in POF. Strong opinions on either side of MJ's private life. I don't have concrete view as the evidence for and against is not conclusive. As a former police officer having spent lots of time in courts it's easy to form an opinion after the prosecutor has presented their case and think "well they are guilty". Then you hear the defence and rethink! It's easy to throw mud and yes it will stick and it takes only one or two people to destroy a reputation. We don't know what their motives were but their character is certainly questionable. The fact that MJ paid out a couple of times to me is not conclusive either.

Read back to my post 153. I was the target of a money grabbing liar and during the investigation into her the Police found that three other photographers had paid her $5000 over the previous two years. I know two of them and it was one of these two that gave me the heads up prior to the shoot I did with her. They figured that paying $5000 to keep a lifelong reputation intact was worth it in the long run. I must say that even after I had the girl charged she still hounded me on websites and forums for years causing me to defend myself many times. She is a nutcase and was eventually charged again with harrassment. My point, just because you pay the 'hush' money doen't mean you are guilty.

Must be those damn glasses again.Too rosy for the real world.

Rose coloured glasses?? Heck yeah!!! I’m proud to take my stand as someone who’s committed to seeing the good in life. Does that mean I ignore the "evident" bad? NO .... but, it does mean that I see things for what they are and not for what they seem to be, could be or might be. In other words, in my eyes everyone is innocent until proven guilty. My inner brilliance has always been strong; my own experience has always spoken more loudly to me than what someone else may "suggest" to be true. I wonder what kind of glasses some people view life through when all they can see is the bad in every situation, even when it is clearly not there..... Perhaps they should try my glasses .....

Maybe the poor man can finally have some peace. My personal belief is that he was a rather tortured soul who loved and cared deeply. He was exceptionally talented and did a lot of wonderful charitable work over the duration over his life. I truly hope he's at peace. RIP Michael, thanks for music and the memories

But we all have that need for the extrordinary person ... we all DO love show biz and all its eccentricities and Michael was the real thing .... some people are 'born entertainers' and they hold centre stage just like THAT . And I'm all for it . Imagine life without singers , dancers , musos ???? He won't die , he is one of the legendary ones . Soon we'll have the copycats but I do wonder if Michael really could be copied ?

Hmm was it tragic to him or others?.....................................?? I was madly in love with him when I was about 15 but got over him really quickly when he morphed into another being of his own creation of who/what he should look like - instead of his true self - he was created but re-created himself

I saw MJ in Brisbane.
I can say it was the best concert Ive ever been to.
From what Ive read and seen on TV I think MJ was a very sad soul due to his father.
The TV was nonestop about his death and hardly a thing about a lovely actress who died a cruel death with cancer. I hope they both now rest in peace.
