Wasn't the original question, would guys who dont ride date woman who do, how did this turn into hey check out my bike thread. I dont ride, but I would date a woman who does. Im in NE Ohio and 8 months out of a year no one rides because of winter, so that leaves alot of time to kill for other interests

Not into it; I think the womens movement is about being like men; they want to be as hard and wild and guys are. Not into it.

I think people should be who they want to be; I accept who they are, I am just not attracted to it and wouldnt' date anyone that was into it. Not my thing. Everyone is different and to each their own.

I intensely dislike Harley motorcycles. They're loud, obnoxious, and their owners tend to be overaged fat guys who have nothing better to do with their lives than draw attention to themselves and cause noise pollution.

I usually pass a profile up if the woman indicates one of her interests is Harleys, although sometimes I make exceptions.

We need more riders on the road:

male, female, transgender,

young and not so young,

thin and not so thin,

on the back of sports, touring, air-cooled, water-cooled, off-road, supermoto, hypersports, commuter, learner motorcycles!!!

The more the merrier, the louder the better (then drivers will see us better)!

Sorry, not a bike thread. I'll keep quiet now.

Does it really matter what a woman uses as transportation, if we have a similar hobby/interest in common all the better. I think I have only met one woman that doesn’t like to ride (my mother, for obvious reasons), whether it be on her own bike or the back of mine. Is it dangerous? But so is walking out of the house in the morning and getting in a car. I tend to not live my life wrapped around what could cause my demise. If it’s your time to go, is there anything you could really do to prevent it?

Some interesting posts... Although I think allot of people here don’t understand why people own/ride motorcycles (regardless if it is a Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc). Chances are if you have never learned to ride or have never ridden a bike you would never understand. Have you ever seen a motorcycle parked outside a psychiatrist’s office? Chances are you never will!

As for Harleys being too loud, I think one thing you need to keep in mind is that sometimes that’s all a bike has to let you know it is there! Drivers on the road are not looking for bikes they are looking for other cars. I have lost count of how many times I have almost been run off the road because another motorist did not see me. But after installing louder pipes on my bike, that problem went away.

As for Mr. Canoga77 and others prejudice on what type of people ride Harleys or other motorcycles... Take a trip to Daytona bike week or Sturgis, and chances are you will meet doctors, lawyers, celebrities, fat people, skinny people, black, white, etc. Not just "over aged fat guys"... Perhaps take a ride on one of thousands of poker runs all over the world that raise MILLIONS of dollars for charity! You also may run into the Patriot Guard Riders that shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors at funerals of fallen Soldiers.

Have a nice day :)

Unless she's really poor white trash, a chick with a bike is sexy as hell. And if she's tough enough to kick my ass, double bonus!

You live in Long Island, and you say that? Just...wow.

Regardless, Harley ownership means having some $- the things fall apart enough if rode more than on the weekends. Heck, just sitting still they're always leaking oil.

My advice- skip women with new Harley's, you want a woman who is versed in the classics.

Bluez, you would pass up a profile that had motorcycles as an interest? Then I assume you would pass it up if she had ANY interests that didn't match yours? How limiting....

Count me among those who have motorcycles as my interest, but no way should anyone take that to mean that a guy I get in a relationship needs to have one. All of my interests listed, are merely things I have done at one time or another and enjoyed...at different times in my life. I list them all, so as to not isolate anyone who may have an interest in ANY of these things.
I don't own a bike, but wish I did. When I lived in CA, I rarely saw a woman with her own bike...here in PA, I see them all the time! If I had one, I could join in more with the Friends of the Forgotten and Warriors Watch groups that I belong to.

As for women with bikes being out of shape.....nah! I see many women here in PA who have their own bikes and are in great shape....even well into their fifties. There is no correlation between bike owners and shape...two totally different issues.

Well put DC. And what a lot of biker haters do not realize is that many times when you see a "parade" of bikes, admittedly more Harleys than others, these people are all on a benefit run usually in honor of veterans missing in action, POWs, veterans serving in war zones and kids issues such as child abuse, and often also women's issues. To go on a run you have to donate; the fee last week was $15, that's double if you have a rider. So next time one of you bike haters are angry that those bikes are hogging the road please realize that more than likely they are going somewhere such as Childrens Hospital or a VA cemetery and please do not cut in on them or give them the finger. And those women on their own bikes or riding behind all have hearts of gold. Hearts are all the same shape.

Harley's are cruisers, the station wagon or Cadillac of bikes, kinda sucks the hotness out for me. Sport Bikes are like Vettes or Vipers I like that picture better.

Hmmn, V-rods are pretty darn quick. As for sport riders, I used to be one and even at my age I can lead the pack on my Sportster with most sport bike riders, just run away and hide. It's like some "other things", it's not the equipment but how you use it.

The V-rod was quite the evolutionary jump for Harley... then again, it was pretty much a Porsche-designed engine. ;)

Either way... whether you like Harley Davidson or not, women who have an interest in gearhead'ish things are cool in my book. Sport-bike, Harley, Viper, Corvette... whatever.

My size I"m a HUGE SIZE 7!!! Can you see that over your GUT?? I have an education, I have manners, and enough self confidence, I am not STUPID enough to condem, ridicule, and whine about wether or not the other sex is able or not to ride, or date a rider..GEEZ GET A LIFE!!!!
Oh yes,,and I dont have tattooss all over either...That doesn't mean you ride a bike.DUH!!!!

I had one when I was much younger....actually shared it with my boyfriend at the time. What's the issue with women and harleys???? Are you one of these men that stereo type? If you are as someone else said, 'you need to get a life'.

Too many motorcycle drivers/riders think the laws of the road don't apply to them. I hate when the ROT rally comes to Austin every year.

Bikers obey the rules of the state. When you see us come thru your town, and you can't wait to cross our road....betcha that there is your police blocking the way!

Sorry if our presence inconvenieces you! We are usually there to escort home an American Hero, or to escort his casket to his grave.
When we do these missions, we usually will have a police escort, planned in advance....cars in front of us, police bikes to block intesrsections. We don't break any laws,...we honor our troops, veterans , first responders, and they respect us for that.

If our "parade" through your town inconveniences you, then obviously you are one of the cell-phone users who cares more about that call, than you do about my life, as you cut the corner short, with your phone upside your head, and drift into my lane....which allthe laws say I am entitled to,,we ARE legal vehicles, pay for license, insurance. Just as you do with your car. Would you you be as disrespectful of a bicycle rider, who rides thru redlights, etc., but pays no license?

I don't know if it would matter to me one way or another.

Actually, scratch that - I'm not personally into motorcycles at all - aside from some of the engine details in terms of power, where the ideal RPM range is, etc.

I personally prefer to be encased in at least a ton and a half of steel when moving at any serious speed, so I don't know if I'd be comfortable riding (driver or passenger) a motorcycle.

That said, it's probably interesting to me if a woman rides a Harley simply because I don't - it's something new to me, different than what I'm used to, etc.

I can't speak for other people's experiences, by the way, but, while there ARE some idiots out there on motorcycles (I swear I've seen a few ride by on a crowded expressway whose riding behavior I could only classify as completely suicidal), it also seems that some car/van/truck drivers think it's funny to mess with motorcycle riders, including straddling lanes when a biker tries to pass them.

A few friends of mine got into it in the late 90s to early 2000s, and had experienced that sort of thing a few times, where a vehicle would literally try to shove them out of their lane.

Since I had a 1972 Olds 98 then, I told them that if they paid for gas, I'd ride "escort" for them . . . simply lay on the horn and approach with that 5000 lb steel monster if they decided to get funny around the bikers!
(ok, it's a nice fantasy, we never did that, but they seriously considered taking me up on that offer!)

I guess that means bikers are braver than I am, or perhaps have more faith in the drivers who share the road with them than I do.

Myself I have a maxi scooter and ride it for the gas saving qualities it has and for the fun aspect. Recently I travelled to Calgary Alberta from Victoria BC and I got 75 miles per gallon or 120 kms per 4 litres. It cost me $40 to do the trip in gas one way then the return journey was $34.
I have had an accident on my first scooter but recovered and purchased a second one and am coming up on my 2 yr anniversary of having /riding my maxi scooter.
If a guy has a problem with my profile saying that I ride, pass me on by. I don't need another "Mother" saying please don't go out and play today dear. I am an adult I like adult pleasures and riding my scoot is one of them. Get used to it.

Chill out there. Yes i can see over my gut. In fact I rode Triumphs for years. Didn't want a Harley because everyone else had one. And if you know anything about bikes you'd know Triumphs were the original "bad boy" bike, I no longer ride though. Was just stating I wouldn't date a woman that rides and I don't becasue I wouldn't fit in with her circle of friends. Sorry this thread went in all kinds of directions

Not all Harleys are "idiotically loud". My Sportster has stock mufflers and air cleaners. But what about all those rice burner Katanas (used to ride one, again stock), Hayabusas, VTs, etc. with 4 into one systems that are buzzingly loud, sounding like a chain saw out of whack?

I know that they're not *all* idiotically loud... all the police bikes aren't, for example.

But there's one huge difference between the loud Harleys and the loud Japanese bikes.

The loud Harleys generally seem to be ssssslllllooooowwwwww compared to the loud Japanese bikes. And that means with the Japanese bikes, you hear the noise for a much shorter period of time.

When a Japanese bike gets loud under acceleration, it's pretty safe to assume they're going fast.

With a loud Harley on the other hand... just regular idling, gentle acceleration or even just cruising results in a ridiculously high level of noise when the straight pipes are on. As far as bikes go, many Harleys are unique in that they offer the most noise for the LEAST amount performance.

Really... it's bad to the point that even HD is trying to get their owners to pipe down on the noise:
http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/newsandupdates/harley_davidson_motorcycle_noise/index.html

Now I'll admit that the V-Rod is a much better bike from a technical perspective... has little or nothing in common with HD's other bikes. I even like how it looks... particularly the original silver one that HD made. But that's not technically 100% Harley. That "revolution" engine is basically a Porsche design.

One other thing I've noticed, of the really loud HD's I've seen, I don't recall any of them being a V-Rod.

As for technology, all Harleys have nearly indestructable and maintenance belt drive, fuel injection, self canceling turn signals and even 2 trip meters.

I'm not saying the new ones are unreliable. I know for a fact that they are way better than they used to be for the simple fact that I rarely see one broken down or leaking oil... and I live near a street that is very popular with motorcycle riders.

As for fuel mileage... Pullleaase... Sure they have one of the most fuel efficient big engines... many other bikes get the same or better mileage, with similar or MORE power, with a smaller engine. Considering that their new "Twin Cam 88" only makes around 80hp from around 1400cc, it's not much of an impressive claim. And your 1200cc HD bike? A tick over 60hp isn't anything to brag about either.

Whether I've ridden a Harley is irrelevant to me making observations... I don't need to own something to make observations about it. You think that just because I don't drive one, I don't know people or see the people who do? You think that because I don't own one, I can't notice that for every 1 loud Japanese bike, I see 10 or more ridiculously loud HDs?

Some people like the HD image. I think the HD image is BS... and for the noisy-HD crowd... antisocial and possibly narcissistic.

If a woman wants to align herself with that, it's fine with me.

I'll take a pass on her though...

I can't believe some of the closed-minded stereotyping I'm reading here. Not only about ladies on Harleys, but bikers in general, and Harleys in general!

First, I ride with many ladies who ride Harleys...young gals to gals my age, Sportsters to full-dressers. All of the lady riders I know are truly that...ladies! And all excellent riders! I would definitely date a lady who rides a HD! But then, I'd date a lady who rides any motorcycle...just as I would date a lady who drives a Jeep or a Miata or a Cadillac!
Most of the stereotyping is being done here, by those who know nothing about the HD experience, and yes, it is a different experience! Harleys are not the fastest bikes made, but minivans are not the fastest cars made, and not all minivans are driven by soccermoms! Stereotype!

Harleys do not break down! There are a lot of HD on the road with well over 100,000 miles on them, with nothing more than regular maintainance! Stereotype!

Harley riders are overweight, obnoxious, and attention-seeking! Yep, just like all horse lovers are rich, idle, snobs! And sport bike riders are young kids who ride in shorts and sandals, weave in and out of traffic unsafely, do wheelies on the highway, then run from the police "because they can"! And all country songs are about "my dog died, my wife left me, my husband is a drunk", and Vietnam Vets were babykillers!

To each his or her own! Don't be putting down that which you don't understand! That is pretty dang close to the same mindset as blatant racism, in my opinion!

Go ahead, guys...date a gal who rides a HD! You don't know what you are missing! And if you don't want to date them, at least give them a little respect on the road! I've had too many friends go down this year already because some cager with a cellphone (that's a "stereotype" joke) cut them off, then went on their merry way as my friend lays bleeding in their wake!
