I can't believe some of the closed-minded stereotyping I'm reading here. Not only about ladies on Harleys, but bikers in general, and Harleys in general!

First, I ride with many ladies who ride Harleys...young gals to gals my age, Sportsters to full-dressers. All of the lady riders I know are truly that...ladies! And all excellent riders! I would definitely date a lady who rides a HD! But then, I'd date a lady who rides any motorcycle...just as I would date a lady who drives a Jeep or a Miata or a Cadillac!
Most of the stereotyping is being done here, by those who know nothing about the HD experience, and yes, it is a different experience! Harleys are not the fastest bikes made, but minivans are not the fastest cars made, and not all minivans are driven by soccermoms! Stereotype!

Harleys do not break down! There are a lot of HD on the road with well over 100,000 miles on them, with nothing more than regular maintainance! Stereotype!

Harley riders are overweight, obnoxious, and attention-seeking! Yep, just like all horse lovers are rich, idle, snobs! And sport bike riders are young kids who ride in shorts and sandals, weave in and out of traffic unsafely, do wheelies on the highway, then run from the police "because they can"! And all country songs are about "my dog died, my wife left me, my husband is a drunk", and Vietnam Vets were babykillers!

To each his or her own! Don't be putting down that which you don't understand! That is pretty dang close to the same mindset as blatant racism, in my opinion!

Go ahead, guys...date a gal who rides a HD! You don't know what you are missing! And if you don't want to date them, at least give them a little respect on the road! I've had too many friends go down this year already because some cager with a cellphone (that's a "stereotype" joke) cut them off, then went on their merry way as my friend lays bleeding in their wake!

Well the last Harley rider I saw on my ride in this morning WAS overweight. But at least he actually had stock pipes and he didn't seem to be obnoxious or seeking attention. But then he seemed to actually use his bike for the purpose of commuting, rather than only recreation.

As for people who ride crotch-rockets... there's one at my work right now... and he is relatively young and isn't fat. Don't know if he ever rides in shorts/sandals or whether he weaves in and out of traffic though.

In the past, three other people at my work also rode crotch rockets... none old or fat. I can't think of a single time I've seen an old/fat person drive a crotch rocket. I think the riding position basically eliminates the possibility of anyone with a big belly or back problems from riding one of these bikes for any length of time.

So I think that stereotype is at least partly true.

Regarding horses and their owners... I know for a fact to own a horse, you can't be poor. Owning a horse isn't cheap. So at least that part of the stereotype is true as well...

As for morons with cell phones... I totally agree with you there... and they're just as annoying to me whether I'm driving or Cycling. It's one thing to pick up the odd call for a quick conversation to get info or to confirm something... but to talk on and on endlessly? It seems to be talking just for the sake of talking.

Based on my observations, some of the stereotypes are very true. The stereotypes didn't happen without a reason.

HDSpringer09, you are a scholar and a gentleman. You are probably a veteran so if I ever get to Scranton I'll buy you a drink; if you're Air Force, 2 drinks. LOL

There is a lot of talk here about gasoline mileage. My last 2 tanks were 62 mpg, that was on one of those all day runs for the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial; and 58 mpg Sunday which was a 130 mile ride through mountains and winding roads with a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear riding. Incidentally many of the women riders ride the same bike, an HD Sportster. Perhaps they know it's an environmentally friendly way to travel that's stylish and inexpensive. Sportsters can bo purchased for eight to ten thousand, not any more than the competition with similar performance but not the style, quality of finish or resale which is often as much or more than the purchase price.

A woman who knows how to ride a hog down the road would be a natural for some of the huskier gents into moving vehicle sex.

No, XL guy, I'm not a Vet, just a strong supporter. If I had been able to serve, I would have been right in the VN era, but a minor health situation kept me out of the USMC. (I outgrew it, it's a family trait).

But thank YOU for your service to our country, so I'll owe YOU those drinks!

Off-topic, I know, but I can't let a Vet go unthanked!

Bottom line is that when dating you don't have to have the exact same interests - if you don't ride bikes and don't want to then that's your thing. Just do your own thing when she's doing hers. *shrug*

Everyone went a tad of course of the OP but after reading zekestone's posts I'm totally amazed he isn't an avid rider. I've owned metrics & HD's, it's generally what I've noticed about bikers over the 3 decades I've been riding.

I have a great idea.

Either ride '****' or get a bike. LOL

Seriously, if you are not interested in bikes and bikers - you shouldn't feel like you have to.

I think that you are making more out of this than you should.

I think people attatch a stigma to 'bikes' and people that ride them.

Think of us as being 'green' - my bike gets about 45mpg.

well there are some misconceptions here ..I have six horses and it cost me next to nothing to keep them ..but this thread is about harleys... my wife can ride anything with wheels or hair ...she has her own bike which is a honda .. she likes it better than a harley because of her short legs and the vlx is so close to the ground ..but there aint nothing wrong with a Harley ......and a woman rider ..thats just hot

Right on dog---that's a pot belly ---not a six pack on this 200 lb. 6' frrame.

I'm rude, disrespect women & the law.

Believe that--I don't want to know you with all due respect & THe Golden Rule in mind. If you care to debate, engage in wit, financial markets, ecomomy or even tell
I like opening doors for ladies, Red Roses & chivalry.

Stereotype of a Harley Rider,,,,,, Griizz

bk1300r,

I am an avid rider... of my Bicycle...

But for a while, I was considering buying a Honda CBR-series bike a few years ago. But I nixed that idea and chose to get back into Cycling and bought a new bicycle instead.

Now I have envy for Cervelo and Specialized bikes...

And personally I think a woman on a bicycle is hotter than a woman on a motorcycle.
