Long vs short hair

I have short hair, which suits my face and hair type. Some men do not care for short hair on women, as they think it makes the women look masculine or that they are lesbians because they have short hair. Last year I heard a comment (which actually said a lot about the sad state of affairs regarding how closed minded some people might be) from a co-worker which gave me pause. Someone who works at the school where I teach told me that I had good self esteem to be able to wear my hair short since I have not been married and am not a priss who uses men, and asked me if I have had people ask me if I am gay.....sure I have, but last time I checked, the fact that I date men and only men makes me heterosexual. I suppose she meant her comment to be seen as a compliment regarding my self esteem.

Touchdown I will chalk that up to a compliment. *smirks and winks* I will probably be 500 years old and rocking hair like this, just pray I don't look like Blanche from Golden Girls. aka Rue McClanahan. If I do, please shoot me in the skull eh?

I have long hair and I respond to every email, as long as it isn't vulgar and has something to say. I don't respond to emoticons only or 'Ur so hot?' or 'Do you f*ck young guys?' types of emails. I wear my hair long because I like it that way. My guy liking it is a bonus.

I know women with hair of varying lengths and I've never known their friendliness to depend on the length of their hair.

This topic got me imagining any possible advantage to long hair. To ascertain any benefits I always imagine in extremes; so I imagined a woman with very long dense hair down to her shoes and nearly covering her face and my thought shifted to a vision of a dry mop standing downside up.
Moving to the other end of the spectrum I imagined a bald woman, where facial features and head shape were obvious. It seemed logical to me that shorter hair was better if only for identification of features.
However, if we take mankind back in time, and women were at the mercy of foul smelling, club wielding Cro-Magnon men; it was good that they were sexually triggered by longer hair on women as it, along with breasts, was interpreted in the primitive brain as a sign of being at a certain stage of maturity, although probably only age 15 or so.
those were the days........

I answer most emails, as long as they are not the "Hey baby..." type.

I've had very short hair since my sons were little. This past year I let it grow. It got as far as my chin before I had it cut short again. It was such a pain. It was always in my face and in my way. Always trying to put it behind my ears or wearing a headband or barrettes. I figure, why bother with long hair when I'm always pulling it back and then it ends up looking like short hair anyway.

It took much longer to dry and style, it clogged the drains, it was noticeable on all my clothing. Now, my hair is wash and dry, stays out of my face and so on. I can camp, swim, sweat, have the window open in the car, etc. and it still looks good.

If someone won't like me just because my hair is short, oh well! Buh-bye!

About long hair in Cro-Magnon/ Neanderthal days, don't you suppose everyone (males & females) had hair pretty much as long as it would grow? Do you suppose people got confused, what with long hair on everyone who wasn't bald and man boobs, short inverted penises hiding in long, untamed pubic hair??? I bet it often got interesting while people picked through the hair looking for gender. Then again, maybe they cut it with shape objects and washed it with grit at the bottom of the lake/river, etc. and we only think they were were smelly, tangled messes.

Ok, what daynadaze just typed made me laugh out loud, now THAT was funny!!! Nothing like pulling stinky, greasy, hair aside to even FIGURE out what gender people were. On top of it, if it was indeed that long, it was probably PI$$ saturated as well. What an image, good lord. ~cringes pinching nose~

I have always had long hair, just because I like what it feels like. The once I cut it higher than shoulder length I felt naked.

So it is just comfort for me; but it doesn't .make me picky or not picky, or anything at all except someone who likes how it feels on me. I also love the touch of hair; so I prefer slightly longer on a guy too; (not shoulder length lol; but not a buzz cut or shaved or anything. Something incredibly soft in the touch of it.

Yes, I will confess I do get a lot of emails, but I respond to every last one of them. If someone takes the time to write something to me, it would be totally rude to blow it off. I wouldn't do that.

LOL, I have long red hair, nicely maintained, regular trims etc, and it has NEVER been referred to as ugly! LOL
I asked my bf if what he preferred, and he said 'Long, I hate short hair on a woman'

Hey, he was being honest. I know that one time when doing theatre, they wanted to 'temporarily' dye my hair, and ended up trying to 'strip' the color off, ruining my hair! I went from almost waist length red hair to a pixie cut in one fell swoop! I cried endlessly, my husband hated it, and even though WOMEN complimented me on it, MEN seriously responded to me differently. I hated it and went for 6 years without doing more than slightly trimming it to get it back to it's original length.

Yes, I'm sure that there are men out there who like women with short hair, but I have found in my experience that I have better luck and I look much more attractive with long hair.

By the way, I got divorced while having short hair...just thought about that. Did that play a part? Hmmmmmmmm
Boy, that really does make ya think!

jerolhay..what are they proving? That said behavior keeps the divorce rate consistently at 50%?

she is proving that women with long hair or very insecure and apparently very evasive too. now guys one women attacking everyone because we have an opinion isnt representative of all women. i think the other women on this thread should be taking some offense to her by now.
if i could find the link belive me i would be more than happy to post it. i it came out of a cosmo many years ago. and im not going though a million fashion tips to prove a point i dont really care about. the only reason i remember because my exwife shoved a cosmo in my face and i was informed she was cutting her hair just because of it.
to be honest i dont care what length it is i dont see any difference in the difficulty level of getting a number anyway. i dont really like plain hair on a women anyway. gimme the tattooed pierced Betty with blood red hair and blond streaks that doesnt mind riding in an old merc

I'd hate to think that someone should be so shallow as to get a divorce over the length of hair? I'm assuming that was a joke. lol

Okay , I have long hair. Its 52 inches long now.I realy dont see what long hair has to do with anything. Its no different than having blue eyes, large breast, nice teeth. My hair is beautiful and healthy and always smells great. However it doesnt define me.Nor does it determine my personality or how I treat people. Just because it long and beautiful, its not a crown .It doesnt make me any better than a nice lady with short hair.

Good Witch beth ^^^ Thats a beautiful shade of red . You have great hair.
Erm.. yes.. long hair.. well, it is a visual cue for men,.. mines been long mostly, once short, and my hair is prematurely grey, so I colour it,.. but when it was short and grey, I was the invisible woman. When it grew again, and coloured, normal service was resumed, lol.
Maybe women with long hair do get more chat up attempts, therefore more deflections of said passes. Yes, it may be true, that they get more email, however as wth Gwen and a few others, I answer most email, not all.

OP- I have medium length hair. I'm no pickier than I was when it was short (above shoulders) or much longer (waist length).
I do think that the "ideal" is someone with long hair.
There..I let you have it!

I do too Gwendolyn, except the hair that goes down that far down on me starts somewhere around the waistband of my BVD's. Still no guys have written me yet; I'm actually relieved by that.

Some women are highly turned on by long hair on men--regardless of where it is located. Maybe you need to let it all hang out.

however there is a study that claims women with long tend to be more insecure than women with short hair.

...to see that study, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Long hair requires more maintenance.

Someone who is prepared to put in that addition maintenance probably considers their physical appearance a priority, versus someone who assumes that neat and clean is sufficient.

And then follows that if someone considers their appearance a priority, then they might think that people (men..women...whoever) might find them wanting if they are judged by the other criteria that make them who they are.

Now of course this is a gross generalization, but it is backed up by my experience in 25+ years of dating...to more a woman tends towards high maintenance (long hair versus short...long nails versus short...lots of makeup versus 3 minutes worth...) the more she prioritizes her physical appearance...and the more she prioritize her physical appearance, the more concerned she is that people don't value or respect the other aspects of her person / being.

Personally, I hate long hair. Whenever you have sex with a woman with long hair, the bed gets crowded...their are always there entities to be concerned about...you...her...and her hair. It gets in the way...its every place...in your face, etc. It gets all over everything. it just has to be dealt with every few minutes, versus being a total non factor (like my nearly bald head, for example).

Truly, anymore than what is required to pull when fcuking is a waste insofar as I am concerned. A good handful...3 to 5 inches....that's all I need....

All IM not so HO....

^^^^^Hair bands are made for pulling your hair back into a pony tail, braid, bun etc. Never had a problem, but have experienced it as a plus. Oh yeah, tickle a guy with your hair. It can be fun.

Ahhh I am glad to read that. I have never been able to do anything to my hair except to add hair. We tried putting streaking stuff on my hair all day and nothing happened. I know in the 80's getting perms took forever and they always ended up cutting tons of my hair off. I had read/heard that there are reds that are resistant. My sister never was, so I often think that people think I am nuts when I tell them I can't color my hair.

I think that men that have long hair are very secure, hippies, or insecure Seriously have only known guys that had long hair to be very secure even if they were hippies. My oldest has longer hair than I do. I think men look attractive in all lengths and styles, it depends on the man. Thinning hair shouldn't go long imo, but other than that, let it hang! Same with women. It all depends on the woman and maybe even her mood when she goes to the hairdresser's or has scissors in her own hands. If someone is happy with their style, that is what shows.

yep, a generalization.

Have long hair (though after hearing the length with someof the other women in here with their 50+ inches, I'm officially downgrading it to medium length lol). Can get ready in five minutes flat, and have short nails, not long ones (but I DO have a bucketload of shoes).

My self worth as a person does not come from anyone else's opinion of my hair or me, either. I'm comfortable in who I am totally; regardless of how I'm viewed. Like I said, I don't do hair for anyone else but me; I like how it feels. If someone else doesn't like it, more power to them. Everyone has their preference, and that's the way it should be.

(there are a few posts above that have me laughing and cringing at the same time; not sure if dayz or Gwens was more cringeworthy, but lol (and ewwwww) to both of your posts.)

It should surprise you because there was no evidence of this in the "study" given.

Long hair requires more maintenance.

No, it doesn't.

About twice a week, I stand under the shower and wash it. I blow my bangs dry and sometimes blow-dry the rest until it is damp instead of soaking wet. Then, I braid it. Keeping my hair in a braid while I sleep and for part of the day minimizes how dirty the length of it gets, but I do wash my bangs everyday.

I trim the ends every couple of months.

I have had very short hair and when it was short, I washed and styled it everyday. If I didn't, it looked like a mess. My hair also grows extremely fast, and to maintain the cut, I had to get it trimmed every three weeks or so, which cost me a LOT of money and time.

Personally, I hate long hair.

You are allowed to hate anything you want, and while you can express your feelings, it shows a negative tendency to project your feelings on everyone else
